Reading Matters

Posted: February 27th, 2008

Since becoming a Mum to twins in 2004 I must admit to not having much time to read anymore – apart from Kid-Lit, that is ;)

Sitting down to take a few well-deserved moments to indulge in the escapism of fiction, and the window to the world that is non-fiction, really is a ‘luxury’ that I’d like to indulge in a little more often.

I find reading uplifts me, shapes my paradigms of thought, makes me feel more creative, and more understanding and tolerant of different ways of thinking and living. (Dont’cha wish you could get that in cake form!!)

About six months ago I was cruising the newsagents after having a haircut (an extremely rare event at the best of times) . I had a small amount of free time before I was due back at home, and decided to indulge in the novelty of a magazine.

Amongst the media conglomerate publications ‘My Child’ Magazine – www.mychildmagazine.com.au - really stood out. It is an independently published Australian parenting magazine that covers the range from conception to early childhood. It has outstanding production values and journalism is top notch.

More than just a baby-stage or kids fashion mag, My Child covers the gamut of parenting topics with depth and intelligence. My Child presents a range of approaches and gives a considered and balanced perspective of parenting across a range of relevant topics. (Most recently I gobbled up the article on toilet training; I need all the help I can get!!)

My Child also keeps me up to date with the latest product developments, the hippest retailers and, of course, the hottest new websites. My Child is published quarterly, which is perfect for me in my time-intensive occupation of Mum.

Next time you’re in the market for a mag, or need a pressie idea for a new or returning Mum, check out My Child and support a quality truly local publication.

This what the cover of the current issue looks like to help you locate it on the stands: untitled.jpg

My Child is available at all good newsagents and baby/kid boutiques. Issues are $8.95, and annual subscriptions are only $30.

My Child currently have a special offer on subscriptions. The first 120 subscribers will receive a free earth and bottom-friendly BumGenius re-usable nappy valued at $28. Visit the My Child subscriptions page to learn more, and don’t forget to let them know you heard it at KidStyleFile :)
