Make Storytime Come Alive with the Characters of Mo Willems

It was love at first sight, how could it not be? Leonardo was a Terrible Monster, but not really, not truly: for a mere moment he was *mine*, on the page and in my mind.

Since then, I have moved on. I love Elephant and Piggie and even the Pigeon.

I guess I have to confess I am in love with Mo Willems. It’s purely platonic, in a reader/writer sense (is there a name for that? Probably something Fruedian?). Mo Willems is my drawing-cool-pictures-and-writing-funny-stories-that-appeal-to-kids-and-mums main man!

Mo is started his career as a writer and animator for television, and he has won Emmy awards for his work on Sesame Street. He has a website, and a blog, and I have just discovered them! Yippee!

Be sure visit the gallery that represents his original artworks, where you can pick up some original drawings and artwork. The prices for the originals aren’t listed, but there are some limited edition prints (such as the lovely Leonardo, pictured above) that are priced at $US300.

Boy and Big Brown Bear, POA

Luckily for me and you, his super cool kids books are full of his original art work and humour and at a much more affordable price tag at Fishpond Online Bookstore – www.fishpond.com.au.

The Elephant and the Piggie series are great books for early readers – much more fun than the ones that come home from school. I also highly recommend picking up Leonardo the Terrible Monster, and the Pigeon series is also a big hit!

The chalkboard walls above are from Mo Willems Dining Room and would be very handy for a round of Pictionary at your next dinner party.

Today I Will Fly! $9.99 $8.98
The Pigeon Finds a Hotdog! $15.99 $14.21
Watch Me Throw the Ball! (an Elephant and Piggie Book)
$25.99
Leonardo the Terrible Monster
$15.99 $14.21

Fishpond Online Bookstore charges $5.99 flat shipping Australia-wide for orders under $50.00. Orders over $50.00 are shipped FREE!

ShopHouse is the exclusive online stockist of OshKosh B’Gosh fashion in Australia, and their range of stock includes pre-walker footwear!

Bronwyn at ShopHouse receives new shipments of OshKosh every month, so there are going to be new products to check out all the time.  Spare a thought for Bronwyn and her team and how busy that’ll make them though!  And I should also point out that OshKosh flies out the door, and once products are gone at ShopHouse they’re gone for good – there’s no re-ordering of OshKosh, so if you like something you need to snap it up quickly or lose out.

Also in store, you’ll all be excited to hear, is the full and complete Winter 2009 range from Oobi Baby & Kids! Seriously Cool: Stokke Table Top

Posted: March 16th, 2009

Today’s post written by Miki

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

I’ve recently come across yet another great product at that powerhouse of amazing kids design, Stokke.

This latest one that’s caught my fancy is the Table Top, a platform designed to be held onto a table via suction cup that can be used for everything from a drawing board to a placemat to an educational tool in itself.

For parents who already have a Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair (and I know there’s lots of you out there), you’ll be especially interested in this as the Table Top is designed to be attached directly to your table, replacing the traditional high chair tray.  This way your tot is more engaged, and by sitting at the table with the ‘big people’ will interact more and learn more.  Your table will also be protected from spills and scratches.

The Stokke Table Top has six interchangeable templates, ranging from simple illustrations for the littlest toddlers up to more complicated alphabet and numbers for slightly older kids.  This means you’ll get several years of use out of your Table Top.

I’m not certain of online retailers for this product at this point, but there’s an excellent tool on the Stokke website for finding stockists near you.

Up to 50% off Sale at 9 Months Waiting: Summer Stock at Bargain Basement Prices

Posted: March 15th, 2009

………………………………………………………………………………………………

I’m now coming up to the fifth month of my wait to meet my baby, and although it’s a long wait, luckily for me I have stores like 9 Months Waiting – www.9monthswaiting.com.au – to help keep me occupied.

9 Months Waiting is one of my favourites at any time, due in no small part to Cathy’s meticulous selection of the best, most adorable and most practical baby goods on the market today.  But what makes it even better is when Cathy throws one of her legendary sales – like this one!

At the moment there’s a large selection of fantastic summer stock in a great range of baby sizes… and it’s up to 50% off!!!

I have it on good authority that a good portion of the sale items here are actually offered below cost price!  Seriously people, you won’t find brands like the ones below at these prices often so snap them up while you can!  The sale ends on 31 March, so don’t say you weren’t warned ;)

First on my lengthy list of favourites are the Tees 2 Knees short sleeve t-shirts, which are slashed from $29.95 down to $15.00. With the cutest little applique designs around (for both boys and girls), sewn onto beautifully soft cotton, these tees are brilliant both for your own baby or to give as presents.  I’ve just added three of them in different designs to my basket.

There is also a fab selection of Eternal Creation baby outfits which are hugely popular, and deservedly so. Designed and made in the Himalayas, this brand is growing exponentially, and isn’t very often offered at discounts like the ones at 9MW.

If that wasn’t enough to get you drooling over your keyboard, get a load of this: also included in the sale are Bonds, Lotus Linens, Living Textiles Company, Marquise, Three Little Trees and more. I don’t know how else to make it clear: this sale is a big one and it’s not going to be repeated any time soon. Get over there quick!

Prices quoted in red are applicable until 31 March 2009 only.

1. Eternal Creation Rouched Swing Top With Contrast Knickers, $52.95 $29.95
2. Eternal Creation Barbados Romper, $43.95 $21.95
3. Lotus Linens Bamboo Long Sleeve Bodysuit, $24.95 $17.95
4. Bonds Long Sleeve Bodysuit, $15.50 $10.00
5. Tees 2 Knees Betty Bird Short Sleeve Top, $29.95 $15.00
6. Bonds Pink Mondial Leggings, $11.50 $9.50
7. Bonds Coverall – Navy Stripe, $23.95 $18.95
8. Marquise Boys Romper, $16.95 $9.00
9. Lime Change & Away, $34.95 $29.95
10. Living Textiles Smart Dream Sleep Bag, $39.95 $27.50

9 Months Waiting stock a great range of clothing from Marquise and Bonds (be sure to buy a size up in Bonds, as it is known for its small sizings), Three Little Trees, Baobab, Eternal Creation, and Tees 2 Knees, linens from Living Textiles, Lotus Linens, and wraps and baby bags from Vanchi.

9 Months Waiting postage prices start at $5.50 for Parcel Post and $7.70 for Express Post Australia-wide. International orders are warmly welcomed. Please see the Delivery info page for full information.

A Stitch In Time: Character Softies at Mummysam

Posted: March 14th, 2009

Today’s post written by Edwina

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

I have just discovered the delights of Etsy seller Mummysam, and I just had to share!

Mummysam is the creative outlet for Artist and Mum of two, Samantha Cotterill. Samantha uses freehand embroidery techniques to create some pretty special softies, using natural fibres of wool felt, pure lambswool stuffing, and cotton.

Despite living in upstate New York, Samantha’s work has a decidely English feel, with red telephone boxes, Milk Bars and folks with names like Murray, Ninny and Apricot, who look like they have just survived the war (not in a depressing way, but in a stoic, silent strength kinda way).

Samantha sells her unique softies, as well as prints and wall hangings, from her Etsy store. Check out Samantha’s lovely blog for more info on her creative life.

1. Ninny $US75.00
2. Telephone Booth $US40.00
3. Murray $US35.00
4. Apricot $US50.00
5. The choir boys sing to their beloved wagon $US15.00
6. Milly Oh Milly $US30.00
7. The Milk Shop $US75.00

Mummysam ships internationally. Please check her Etsy store for postage and delivery information.
