Autumn/Winter ’09 Fashion Roundup – Hot Picks of the New Season

………………………………………………………………………………………………

It’s that time of year again…summer is being cleared out to make way for my personal fave fashion season – the cosy knits and gorgeous jackets of Autumn/Winter ’09! Here’s part one of our sneak peek at what some of our fav labels are offering, with everything trickling into stores as we speak (well, read):

Oobi

I know this is a firm favourite with all you loyal KSF-ers, and you can view their new season collection on their website right now, with stockists including Baby’s Got Style, ShopHouse, and Urban Child. I admit we’ve already indulged a little, with the cute hooded Owl Print dress (very Scandinavian) and the print also comes in Hoodies! They’ve also redone the popular Cord Dresses – this season’s addition is Red – and the eternally cute Little Bear Hoodie Jackets (hoods with ears, bless) in navy/red stripe. Other notable pieces include the Cable Knit Cardis and beautiful Cord Peacoats (navy or red). Yes folks, classic-cute dressing with quirky modern touches just doesn’t get better than this!

Eeni Meeni Miini Moh

The exquisite designs of EMMM are available right now at Kounia Bella, with a huge selection from newborn to tween sizes. For girls, the Marshmallow Trench ($129) gets two very enthusiastic thumbs-up (you can never be too young to learn about a classic cut!), as does the Gauge Knit Dress ($99) and the Balloon Dress ($84) for a little-girl look that’s big on style. Boys can work their tres cool Grass Stain Jeans ($94) with a rockstar Stripe Scarf ($39)  and matching Tshirt (from $51); while little people are spoiled for choice – cover up in the funkiest jumpsuits around ($69), keep warm in a long-sleeved romper ($44) or team a sweet babydoll dress ($49) with knitted tights and a beanie for warmth and style! And don’t forget their adorable bibs and blankies…

Baobab

Belinda Blooman’s label just keeps getting better and better. There’s a cool new Racer print this season, which looks awesome on their thoughtfully designed Kimono Hoodies ($45.95) and Hoody Tees ($47.95) – choose from baby blue, red or a lovely warm chocolate brown. New tee prints include a Plane and funky racing car ($37.95ea), while the ever poopular girl’s long sleeved dresses have a pretty bow or come covered in the Racer print ($45.95ea) - with some patterned tights and a big chunky knit cardi they will just look superb!

Bebe by Minihaha

My daughter is too ‘growned-up’ for this beautiful label now, but that doesn’t stop my endless cooing over it…this season, I fell in love with the Tatum Cord Dress ($49.95; there’s also an adorable romper in the same print for $38.95) for it’s girly ribbon detail and whimiscal mishmash of print. I pondered it for a long time before it was time to admit that size 2 was just not going to fit my rapidly growing tot *sigh*. Anyway, you can view other coo-worthy pieces on their website, with stockists including Ekidna Kids, The Fairy Jardin and Pastel Pink. The Denim Multi Print Pinafore and Chelsea Double Breasted Knit Cardigan all get my vote, while in the boy’s JR range, the Hunter Grandpa Tee is a cool classic, the Charcoal Stripe Lambswool Jumper looks as slick as it does cosy, and the Stripey l/s rompers with feet are just perfect for keeping little toes toasty all season!

In rows, top to bottom: Oobi, Eeni Meeni Miini Moh; Baobab, Bebe & JR.

*Not all styles available at all stockists; please contact individual retailers for details.

Light Up Your Life with the Acme World Zoo Kutelight

………………………………………………………………………………………………

Well, here I am in New York, where I am busy soaking up new and inspirational products, and meeting the passionate designers behind them. Today I want you to make the acquaintance of the hot-off-the-press and utterly illuminating Acme World Zoo, who wowed visitors at the Bubble trade show.

Acme World Zoo – www.acmeworldzoo.com – is the brainchild of Mary Kuzma and Tomas Tisch, who have worked for the past three years to develop the Kutelight, a most original lighting solution that’s just perfect for a child’s bedroom, or as a fun decor statement anywhere.

The Acme World Zoo Kutelight is a metal box around 30cmx30cm, which houses an energy saving globe, effectively illuminates a space through cutouts around the casing. The metal stays cool, and the globe is protected from curious fingers, making the Kutelight safe for children.

Motivated by the events of Hurricane Katrina in which thousands of animals suffered, Acme World Zoo creator Mary wanted to do something positive to help.  Mary’s support is ongoing: 5% of all sales of the Kutelight are donated to Brooklyn-based animal shelter BARC.

The Acme World Zoo Kutelights are wholly made in the USA: the robust, but lightweight metal that comprises the casing is powder coated in Indiana, and the designs are cut and hand finished in Brooklyn.

The Acme World Zoo Kutelight makes a fabulous impact with it’s stunning array of colours and designs  with more still to come – and is sure to become a design icon of the children’s world.

The Acme World Zoo Kutelight is so new that it isn’t available to buy in Australia yet, but watch this space, I’m sure it won’t be long!

Here’s a treat for you: a sneaky peak preview at the brand spanking new TikiBoo Kids Winter 2009 which has just been released in the last 12 hours.  Have a look below – isn’t it gorgeous!

For those who missed Angela’s interview with Kathryn, creator of TikiBoo Kids, you can read all about the label and her inspirations here.  Kathryn has been burning the midnight oil and getting very well acquainted with her sewing machine while she frantically got the new season’s range ready, and it’s finally ready at her store All You Need – www.allyouneed.com.au.

The new range is designed to be worn by active kids, and yet remain stunning looking through all sorts of play.  Little girls especially love the twirl skirts!  These designs are all limited editions, and they’re only available at All You Need until April 1st, as then the store will be closed for six weeks.  You’ll still be able to get your TikiBoo from other retailers though.

Buy any piece of new season TikiBoo Kids clothing from All You Need and enter the code ‘KSFGIFT’ to receive a FREE set of matching hair clips!  This is a great way to turn a dress or a skirt into a stylish outfit, so take advantage of the offer.  You can only do this until April 1 when AYN shuts down for six weeks.

Now speaking of All You Need, did you know that Kathryn’s end of summer sale is still on?  If you hurry over there now you can snap up some fabulous bargains such as applique tees which are too cute for words, pretty dresses, shorts, pants and skirts.  There are heavily discounted goodies in there for boys and girls alike, so go get bargain hunting!

I’ve just added the TikiBoo Kids applique tees with whales on them to my cart, and next on the list is the puzzle tee.  I know for sure that they’ll look gorgeous on my little man, and as they are TikiBoo Kids brand and thus hand-finished by Kathryn, I know that the quality is second to none.

Blue Lace Twirl Skirt, $35.00
Jungle Girl Denim Dress, $45.00
All available at this link.

DIY: Warm Up to Wonderful Wool this Winter

Posted: March 11th, 2009

Today’s post written by Nerida

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

My sister recently got married and my daughter was a flowergirl. At just three years old, she doesn’t really understand the concept of marriage, but she was thrilled to be getting dressed up and carrying a bunch of flowers which included, much to her delight, a baby pineapple.

My sister had picked a dress for my daughter, so with my little girl’s outfit sorted, I just had to worry about what the rest of the family would wear. My husband pulled out a suit, I found a nice Leona Edmiston dress, which left just my then 4 month old son. I had a dilemma – how do you dress a baby boy for a wedding?

Not being a fan of baby tuxes, and feeling that he looked a little too blokey for a sailor suit, I was having a lot of trouble working out what to put him in. He was also likely to sleep in his pram for quite a bit of the ceremony so I wanted something comfortable.

Finally a friend suggested that her mum could knit him something. I was a bit dubious at first thinking of all the hand knits of my past (too tight necks, garish colours etc.) but then decided to check out the range of knitting patterns now available. I was pleasantly surprised by what I discovered. My absolute favourites are the range of Little Sublime Hand Knit Books produced by Sirdar.

At the end the day was too hot to wear a knit, and he ended up just in a comfortable onesie (Miki knew this would happen!) but I am so glad to have discovered the delightful world of hand knits, and I am now looking forward to the colder weather with great anticipation of a wonderful wool filled winter.

Check out the wonderful selection of hand-knit patterns for babies and kids at Wondoflex – www.wondoflex.com.au – including the delightful Designer Handknits for Tots, by Patons, pictured below.

Prices for babies and kids hand knit patterns at Wondoflex start at $4.50 and go up to $14.00.

Wondoflex postage charges are based on purchase amount. Click here to view full details.

The Best Onesies in the World: Take 20% off everything PLUS Win 1 of 3 $100 Wardrobes at Onesies.com.au

The new winter stock has arrived at Onesies – www.onesies.com.au – and it’s too cute for words!

Alice at Onesies has selected the most adorable one piece baby outfits from brands such as Purebaby, Bebe by Minihaha, Gaia and Nanoou, to name but a few of the brands stocked, and for anyone with a baby under 12 months (or expecting one!) you’ve just gotta check ‘em out.

And what gives this feast of baby goodies a sense of urgency is this: KSF readers can take 20% off store-wide at Onesies – yes, including the brand new winter stock AND sale items – for one week only, starting right now and finishing on the 17th of March 2009.

Enter the code ‘KSF’ at checkout to get the discount, and be quick about it!

If you already have a child then you’ll know all about how wonderful one piece suits are for babies, but if you are expecting your first little one then take it from me: your new bundle will not want to wear anything but one piece suits (onesies) for at least the first three months, and then will wear them for a good portion of the time for the remainder of his or her first year.

The thing about onesies is that they’re comfortable for babies – no constricting waistbands or harsh fabrics – and easy for parents, as they all offer prompt access to the nappy and are easy to put on and remove. Everyone’s happy!

With my second baby on the way, I’ve learned my lesson from the first time around. Little pairs of jeans and hoodies are all very cute and everything, but tiny newborn babies just aren’t suited to wearing that kind of gear. It’s onesies all the way for my bub when he or she arrives, which is not exactly a hardship when you look at the images below to see how adorable the ones Alice stocks at Onesies are!

Now just before I sign off for today, let me tell you about this fab competition Alice is holding: Onesies newsletter subscribers are all in the draw to win 3 x $100 Onesies wardrobes! All you have to do is make sure you’re a Onesies subscriber, so if you aren’t already then follow the links on the Onesies homepage to join up. The competition ends on the 31st of March 2009.

Don’t forget that you can take 20% off all these prices by using the code ‘KSF’ at checkout, but only until midnight on March 17 2009!

1. Purebaby Quilted Sleeper, $58.00
2. nanoou Orange Big Circle Growsuit, $42.00
3. Purebaby Bluebell Stripe Growsuit, $32.00
4. Earlybirds Blue Isolette Suit, $24.00
5. Bebe by Minihaha Pink Panda PJs, $32.00
6. nanoou Yellow Star Growsuit, $45.00
7. Gaia Cream Pointelle Bodysuit, $29.00
8. Hamb ‘Snippy’ Onesie, $35.00
9. Bebe by Minihaha Blue Stripe Winter Onesie, $35.00
