OeufNYC – www.oeufnyc.com – (pronounce it UH-F: it’s French for ‘egg’), comprised of French-American couple Sophie Demage and Michael Ryan, are well know for their incredibly beautiful, sleekly designed modern range of furniture and accessories for babies; think the Oeuf Baby Bouncer, Classic range of cots and furniture (recently added to with the stunning new ‘Sparrow’ line).

Lesser well-known in Australia, but no less stunning, is their kids clothing range, Oeuf Clothier.

The Oeuf Clothier Fall/Autumn 09 collection delivers traditional-style knits, impeccably cut, in a stylish palette of greys, browns, creams and pale blues, accentuated with stripes, hearts, and their range of hand-knite animal-inspired accessories – bonnets with ears, masks, snouts, tails and claw-foot booties, strongly evocative of Maurice Sendak’s “Where The Wild Things Are”.

It’s an irresistable combination, made even more compelling with the knowledge that Oeuf are a fair trade and environmentally responsible company: all Oeuf clothing is made in Bolivia, South Amercia, under fair trade agreements which promote fair pay and cultural respect, and all their furniture is made in Latvia, Europe from sustainable materials, with a focus of minimal impact on the environment.

Below are just a small sample of some of my favourite pieces from the Oeuf Clothier Fall/Autumn range, as presented at Bubble New York this past March.

To purchase Oeuf and Ouef Clothier, US and OS readers can head straight for the Oeuf Stockists page, which will serve you well.

Oeuf furniture and accessories are stocked in a number of Australian boutiques including Metro Mum, The Hip Infant, and Urban Baby.

If you are interested in Oeuf Clothier pieces, then try Kido Store who currently have some of last season’s pieces on sale; keep your eye open for the Fall/Autumn pieces as pictured below, or, if you can’t wait, try one of the US/OS stores to see if they’ll post internationally for you.

The perfect accompaniament to the gown, these Uggie Slippers, in Rose, from Ouch ($26.00) are the best winter footcovering out for your kids. This is our second winter wearing ours, and they still look brand new: the plush faux-sheepskin inner is still fluffy and cosy, unlike my real McCoys uggs, which look decidedly scrappy after only a few months. 7. Oobi Clips in co-ordinating fabric ($19.95 a set of two) – accessorise your Peacoat, tame wild hair, or dress up any outfit 8. For those ‘Alice’ days, these Reversible Non-slip Headbands from Locolili! are cute, and are great value at $11.95. 9. Got a birthday coming up? Fidoodle – For Dreamers of All Ages

When I met Jen Bulthuis aka Fidoodle – www.fidoodle.com – in New York recently, I became completely enveloped in her world, filled with deliciously soft ‘dreamers’, and cushions, 3D puzzles, ‘city’ and ‘country’ block sets (with a puzzle to complete on the reverse!), art canvases, and t-shirts.

Jen lives and works in Toronto, Canada, where she hand-makes her wonderful produce from the birch of well-managed forests, sheep wool, organic cotton and recycled fabrics.

Jen brings her imagination to life by virtue of her unique and beautiful illustration style. The characters instantly draw you in, and evoke stories. Fidoodle offers us a gentle, artful world with infinite potential for creative play.

I was so taken with the Fidoodle puzzles, which are beautiful artefacts for children and adults alike. The option to either lay them flat to complete, stack them on top of each other like building blocks, or skew them on sticks in any order that pleases you to make your own characters, is utterly delightful and takes the puzzle to a whole new level.

Also completely entrancing were the Fidoodle range of  ‘dreamers’ – the softness is indescribable! – and the story of the ‘dreamer’ – a buddy in sleep and dreams for your child – is the epitome of warmth and comfort.

Fidoodle products can be purchased online from Jen’s Etsy store.

1. Fidoodle Rabbit Dreamer $USD24.00
2. Fidoodle Printed Cushions – please enquire for prices and availability
3. Fidoodle City Mini Blocks USD$30.00
4. Fidoodle Country Mini Blocks USD$30.00
5. Tortoise and Hare – Lion and Mouse Small Puzzle $USD85
6. Cinderella Large Puzzle $USD135

Fidoodle ships to Australia – and to the world outside the US and Canada – from USD$6.00.

Splish, Splosh, Splash! Rainy Day Gear to Turn Your Grey Sky Blue

Posted: April 17th, 2009

Today’s post written by Kat

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Today it rained -bucketed down. And my two-year-old could not have been happier!

In a brief respite, we threw on our wellies and jumped joyously in puddles in the driveway. If you haven’t tried it lately, I highly recommend it!

If you don’t have a hot bath to jump into after your aquatic adventures, check out these stylish (and splashproof) options:

Gumboots:

Available in a plethora of colours and prints, these options make sure your wellies are anything but boring! Puddle Beach have a bright and cheerful range of boots from several brands, including Western Chief’s Ladybug and Camoflauge ($41.80ea), which offer cotton lining, handles to make putting them on so much easier for litle people, and non-slip soles, which is always handy.

They also have a more basic, but equally as cute, range, with designs such as Aeroplane and Worm ($36ea, currently on sale for $29) sure to delight kids of all ages, as well as your purse!

Hunter Wellington Boots are just about the creme de la creme of the gumboot world. Originally designed for traipsing through the Scottish Highlands, they’ve been in production since 1856 and therefore really know their stuff (and the website reassuringly informs us their boot-making technology has since been updated). They do a kid’s range in simple colours that will set you back $70 a pair, but they are so jam-packed with every orthopaedic advantage, it’s definitely where I’d put my dollars..if I wasn’t so attracted to polka dots and sparkly bits…

..and stripes, like this adorable pair by Morgan & Milo, available at Tiny People, for $60. Or the gorgeous Rasperry Birds print on these Ouch wellies from the Hip Infant ($26.95). So many choices, I almost wish winter was a bit longer (almost)!

Raincoats:

I used to have a sensible bright yellow raincoat that folded neatly into a little square, in it’s own pouch in my schoolbag. Man, it sucked. Thankfully, when my daughter starts school she can have her cherry-pickin’ choice of all that is bright and beautiful -

ShopHouse have a handy wet weather section which includes a nice range of Penny Scallan raincoats. The Navy Star print ($44.95) is subtle yet cool, or for a pretty pattern to brighten up your day try the sweet Daisy print ($44.95).

You could also head back to Puddle Beach for a coat to match your wellies – the Ladybug and Pink Kitty($64.35ea) by Western Chief are perfect for little girls, while the blue Dino coat for boys ($64.35) is just too cute to resist!

Got a little monster? Kit him out appropriately with this cool Monster raincoat ($49.95) from Moochie-moo!

Umbrellas:

There are oodles of umbrellas out there, so let your imagination (and your mouse) run wild!

That said, you might not have to look much further than Kinder Kaboodle, who also have a nifty section devoted to rainy days. Their umbrella pages are just glorious! My picks are the Rush Strawberry Flower and Green Dino brollies, or Penny Scallan’s Star and Spot designs (all $19.95ea).

Wrigglebots have a great range of Kidorable wet weather gear, including the very sweet Butterfly and Lotus umbrellas for girls, and this very cool Pirate for boys (all $18ea)!

I also found a whole shop devoted to brollies (so Mum can grab herself a funky new one as well!), StellaBrella where they not only stock gorgeous prints for kids (like Butterfly and Frogs, $19.95) but uber chic clear options with coloured trims (I love the yellow, despite my prior negative association) – oh la la!

Please check individual stores for postage and delivery information.
