Today I am delighted to bring you the official Number 1 favourite baby and kids brand as voted for by you in the KidStyleFile Annual Reader Survey, held in June this year: Oobi Baby and Kids – www.oobi.com.au.

This is the second year in a row that Oobi has topped the polls, beating out some very worthy competition to take the number one spot.

What gives Oobi it’s universal appeal and unique look is head Oobi designer Alex Rigg’s ability to blend nostalgic design aesthetics; think 1920s to 1950s shapes, and hand-made detailing, with modern sensibilities; retro-prints with a contemporary twist in easy-wear and easy-care fabrics. The result is effortlessly stylish and strongly evocative of the liveliness and vivacity of childhood.

The Oobi Baby and Kids spring/summer ’09-’10 collection continues the Oobi magic with a fabulous range of designs for babies from birth to boys and girls up to 4 years. I am thrilled to bring you this exclusive KidStyleFile sneak peek at the new season’s collection, available from stockists from September 2009.

Read below for the designer Alex Rigg’s personal comments on the new collection.

“There is a small range for boys but it’s uniquely “Oobi”. We have gorgeous jeans which we’ve made from Japanese denim with a very soft handfeel. The cool part of the jeans is that we’ve hand screenprinted them with whales and apples so that the jeans can be rolled up or down. I’ve never seen anyone do this before and it’s really quirky. Jeans go up to 4Y for boys and for girls.

We’ve done a new cowboy and a trucker shirt but with nice twists on the theme. They have mini pearl press-studs and pockets with Oobi embroidery to liven them up. The fit is fantastic and they’re easy to wear. The white would be appropriate for a more formal event too.

For boys we’ve got a fun range of hats and socks and for babies the sweet “Sunday” suit in our own print of “Minky the Whale” and “Trucks”.

Our pettiskirt is called the “Darcy” after the famous ballerina Darcy Bussell. It’s wearable and soft, made from generous layers of tulle. We’ve dyed them to match our fabrics exactly and mixed two Oobi house-designed fabrics for the yoke and sash so that you can mix and match with our gorgeous Bridgette hats, vests and rosettes for a complete look. The Darcy comes in ‘fairyfloss pink’ and ‘scarlet red’.

Added to our range of bold, feminine yet wearable designs we’ve got the “Carmen” Dress which has a very Latin feel. It’s fun, casual, yet can be worn as a party dress too. The neckline is elasticated so it can be worn off the shoulder. The Carmen dress comes in bold scarlet dots and also our Buttons print.”
