Just this week, Master R’s inquisitive little mind decided to put some heavy thought into how an echidna differs from other mammals here in Australia. He was quite astounded to discover that these little monotremes lay eggs. Of course this all eventuated just after Easter too, so now he is convinced that the echidna is actually the Easter Bunny, but with spines.

I love the warm colour palette of this time of year. I see it in the amazing display of colour amongst fallen leaves. I see it as the sun dips below the clouds a little earlier in the evenings, casting it’s beautiful golden shades across the backyard. Hello everyone!

In celebration of Earth Day coming up on 22 April I have gathered some of my very favorite crafts made from items that are usually recycled or thrown away. 1 – Green Kitchen shares this idea of making kid pants from the sleeves of felted wool sweaters.

2 – Start saving socks and tights that have seen better days and use them to make a colorful snake like this one from Journey Into Unschooling.

3 – Look here for lots of ideas to use old newspapers, junk mail and magazines and check out this newspaper lei made by Flederhaus!

4 – Fem Manuales makes some wild looking bugs from all recycled materials.

5 – If you don’t do it already, then start collecting plastic lids now. You’ll be amazed at how fast they accumulate plus you’ll be able to put together this really cool plastic lid mosaic activity from Handmade Beginnings.

6 – I put together this tutorial for making houses from cereal boxes (any box will do) and once you get the hang of it you’ll be able to make little changes to create quite a variety. You can easily cut out doors and windows or just paint them on – pretty soon you’ll have a whole city!

7 – I am in love with these corrugated cardboard sailing ships from Ikat Bag, she even shares a pattern for you to download.
