The Smile Project: Capturing & Restoring Smiles

Here in Australia we are fortunate enough to live our lives in relative peace and comfort, but in other parts of the world girls and women suffer terrible treatment simply by dint of their gender.

Sydney photographer Leah Kua – www.leahkua.com – works with many families Australia-wide to capture their happy moments, their smiles, milestones and joy, and on hearing of the Watoto Living Hope program, determined to bring a smile to marginalised women in Africa too, and set up The Smile Project to do so.

In addition to donating 50% of her session fees to the program until the end of 2010, Leah is offering one lucky person, Australia-wide, the opportunity to win a $2,000 photography prize. All you have to do is make a donation of $2 or more to go into the draw, which closes on 5 June 2010. Find full information here.

My Brood: For Baby, Child & *You* – Up to 60% off Sale Stock + Extra Special Discounts for KSF Readers

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

The perfect shopping experience for me includes the purchase of a few key children’s fashion pieces, some sexy lingerie for me (as I’m still nursing, this one can be tricky), a handbag or two and some luxury linen, ideally all purchased from the comfort of my lounge room while I’m rugged up in my dressing gown, just after the kids have gone to sleep, and I’m enjoying an evening cuppa.  Fantasy perhaps? Well not today!

My Brood – www.mybrood.com.au has delighted me with their stockpile of all my favourite things. Everything above is noted amongst their wares plus more. And to top it all off, this month My Brood is having a BIG SALE to celebrate motherhood. My Brood also offer a superior level of customer service: not only are they open 24/7,  but a real person will answer any email request within 60 minutes of it arriving in their inbox (unless they are asleep, which they do sometimes! Although answering your email will be the first thing they do when they wake).

Cake Lingerie, the sexiest and luxurious label for maternity and nursing under garments has HUGE discounts – up to 56% off some items. My eye is on the Cake Black Forest Maternity & Nursing Bra – you can’t even tell its for us nursing mummas!! There are also fantastic savings of up to $100 on Mia Bossi nappy bags, timi & leslie nappy bags (both brands are guaranteed to make a statement) and KissKissHugHug feeding covers and cushions.

For all your expecting mums out there, the entire Stephanie Schell Winter 10 is now available and in stock, but hurry, they range is selling out fast. The range is stylish and chic. The perfect way to show the world that pregnancy doesn’t mean frumpy tent dresses and baby doll dresses only. Oh and nursing mums can pick up a piece or two as well! My favourite is the Stephanie Schell Fitted Square Neck dress which is the perfect special occasion outfit.

Just in time for the colder days afoot, Lucy at My Brood is offering all KSF readers 15% off the entire range of blankets, including the much coveted Patricia Ann Designs and cashmere (ooooh the luxury, the softness…bliss) blankets from Lucky Jade. Enter code ‘BLANKET‘ at checkout to redeem.  And that’s not all…..the super generous My Brood are also gifting all KSF readers with 20% off their range of HandySitt chairs. Enter code ‘CHAIR‘ at checkout to apply this discount. Both offers are valid until 31 May 2010.

PS Further bargains can be found under the SALE page where your will find yourself overcome by the fabulous wares on offer up to 60% off. Find Serena & Lily cot line and AW10 Baby and toddler labels including Egg by Susan Lazar, ilovegorgeous, Mad Sky, Mad Boy, Barn Organics, Inch Blu, Baby Soles right here, as well as lots of items from the interiors collection. You can also join the My Brood newsletter for special subscriber only offers every month.

makedo: Minimalist Materials + Imagination = Marvellous Creations

We featured Rolobox here on KSF in October 2009, and today have an equally innovative new product that also employs the notions of making use of what otherwise would head to the recycle bin. Meet makedo – www.makedo.com.au -  an Aussie outfit with a global vision for imaginative and sustainable play.

“makedo is a connector system made up of three simple parts – a connector, a hinge and a construction tool – that enables materials including cardboard, plastic and fabric to easily join together to form new objects or structures. When you’re done playing, simply pull it apart to reuse over and over again.”

Sound good? It is! Already receiving accolades from the experts (Treehugger Best Industrial Design or Design Idea and a Red Dot Design Honourable Mention) makedo is a fantastic concept that is only limited by your imagination. I am in absolute awe of the creations that people have made with their makedo kits. View the video below to behold more marvels.

makedo kits are available to buy online from the makedo website, with prices from USD$25.00 (approximately AUD$30) including shipping for a limited time only.
