Life Is A Balance: Get It Right with Hip Kids Balance Bikes Now On Sale

Without a doubt the most important ‘toy’ I was ever gifted as a child was my bike. Starting with my baby trike, moving to my big-girl tricycle (complete with back passenger seat, in which I toted my little sister and various toys) and moving on to my first two-wheeler complete with back-pedal brakes, right through until my current day road bike, my love of the freedom of a bicycle has not diminished.

Bicyles are a major milestone in every child’s life and represent not only enormous fun, but important developmental progress – the co-ordination of brain and body – as well as independence, freedom and a sense of satisfaction that only moving under your own steam can deliver.

My kids both learned to ride their two wheelers via balance bike: they learned to steer and balance their bikes sans pedals and when they were confident in this we attached the pedals and they simply put their feet on them and rode off – no need for training wheels! Quite amazing!

Hip Kids – www.hipkids.com.au – import and retail a wonderful selection of fabulous play toys and wheeled vehicles, among them two choices of balance bike: a wooden bike, and a steel frame bike, the latter of which cranks and pedals can be attached to when your child is ready to zoom off on their own. Currently on sale for $89 and $109, respectively, while stocks last until 31 July 2010, these are a great buy, and – trust me – the best way to teach your kids how to ride.

Check the images and watch the video below to see how easy it can be.

Wug Up with Woolly Wugs: Stunning Merino Rugs & Cotton Sleeping Bags For Every Season

No matter what your opinion on winter it does have some benefits – like the opportunity to wrap your babe in blankets as beautiful as these made by Woolly Wugs – www.woollywugs.com.au.

Launched in November 2009, this gorgeous new Australian label is the cherished work of two proud Adelaide mums Kate and Sarah. Woolly Wugs really are great Australian innovation. Beautiful? Yes – well that’s a given (just check out the pics below!), but what I love is that these products have been thoughtfully and lovingly designed specifically with the Australian climate and of course Aussie children in mind. Their entire range is made from natural fabrics: light and breathable for summer and warm and cosy for winter.

Speaking of winter, just wait until you cast your eye over their signature Baby Woolly Wug! Proud to support Australian industry, these blankets are made from super soft 100% Australian merino wool and backed with pure cotton. Quite simply, they are exquisite. Being made from all natural merino has lots of benefits too: it breathes beautifully helping regulate temperature, it reduces skin allergies and irritations, plus it is just so snuggly and warm – just perfect for winter!

There is one design for boys called ‘Vroom, Vroom’ and ‘Flutter, Flutter’ for girls both made with incredible attention to detail.  These blankets are just so gorgeous you will want it to be seen everywhere you go! Use it in a bassinet or cot, over baby while they are in a capsule or car seat, in the pram, plus it could be your special ‘take everywhere blanket’ that gets tucked in your baby bag ready for baby to rest or play on wherever you are.

As the seasons change (yes these wintry days will come to an end) and for those of you who live in the warmer parts of Australia, Woolly Wugs also make gorgeous 100% cotton light weight Sleeping Bags. Pictured below you’ll see they are styled in vibrant red and navy, making them super versatile for little people. Plus, because they designed by mums, they come in a great one size fits all!  The one bag fits 000 to 2 years, so you’ll get two years out of it with having to buy new sizes – fabulous! And even better, you can buy them in a twin pack too so one can be in the wash and the other one in use.

Woolly Wugs Woollen Baby Blankets retail for $99.95, The Sleeping Bag Twin Pack for $99.95, and a Single Sleeping Bag in Red or Blue for $59.95. Purchase direct from Woolly Wugs here.

Woolly Wugs ship Australian-wide with prices starting from $8.00 for one item. Please see Shipping for full details, including international orders.

Baby Teresa: Buy Once, Share Twice!

“If you can’t feed 1,000 people, then feed one.”Mother Teresa

What a wonderfully positive and achievable statement from an amazingly charitable and caring human being! It is also a statement that the two Mums, Sammie and Kirsty, who started Baby Teresa – www.baby-teresa.com – have literally taken to heart.

Baby Teresa make simple, practical, comfy and 100% cotton rompers and suits for babies which come with the added bonus that when you buy an outfit for your own baby, or a baby you know, Baby Teresa will donate another outfit to a baby in need. It is a simple idea that allows all of us to help other Mums and their bubs around the world: buy once, share twice!

Baby Teresa’s first charitable outfit donations were to benevolent organisations assisting mother’s in Australia, but as the donations  have grown babies in Egypt, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya,  Philippines and  Jordan have benefited. Baby Teresa’s agenda is to send their garments wherever they are needed all over the globe.

If your baby is all grown up you can still contribute by buying an outfit and donating it back. In fact, many people support the cause this way and Sammie and Kirsty make it a practice to let you know exactly where the outfits you purchase have be distributed.

Baby Teresa outfits come in short or long sleeves for sizes 0 – 12 months. Baby Teresa Long Sleeved Outfits are $34.95, and  Baby Teresa Short Sleeved Outfits are $29.95. Postage is free, Australia-wide, with international orders being most welcome with postage at just AUD$5.00 per suit.

Clinging to my legs, climbing up onto my lap, or tapping insistently until they are picked up to be part of my ‘up high’ world – little people just love to be in on the action – especially in the kitchen! Cooking with kids is a culinary adventure with lots of benefits, and really I wouldn’t want to give it up – but there are times when fun quickly turns to chaos and I would love something that not only makes cooking a wee bit easier, but that also ensures the safety of all involved.

Just last night, in the midst of the floury fun, as my toddler slipped my grasp and made her way to prime position on top of the bench, my mind flew back to a great product showcased here on KidStyleFile that does all of those things and more: The Learning Tower.

The Learning Tower is an amazing product that comes to the rescue in the kitchen, and really, in every area of the house where little people want to be.  It safely fits 2 children, features an anti-topple design, and height adjustable platform, meaning it can be moved to suit kids aged from 18 months right through to 6 years. This clever product not only comes in a great range of colours, you can also purchase add-on kits for your Learning Tower: an Art Easel Kit and a Playhouse Kit, – transforming your little Masterchef into creating Masterpieces and then on to starring in the Master Role of their very own production!
