Christmas Baby & Kids Gift Picks 2010: Under Annie’s Tree

Annie & her daughter (now 2 years old)

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Christmas becomes more and more exciting each year for us. This year our daughter (2 years) is coming to terms with who Santa is and is awestruck by every single Christmas tree she comes across. I must admit to feeling just a little bit more relaxed this year with a huge chunk of my shopping done but if there is one thing I know for sure there is *always* room for a little more :)

Here are some of the things that will be under our tree this year:

  • Mini Micro Scooter, $119.00 – As I watched our daughter navigate her way around the store on this (and had to bribe her off!) I knew it was something Santa would have to have in his sack.
  • ‘Merry Christmas Splat’, £5.93 – We all love Splat in our house so a Christmas book is a must .
  • Melissa & Doug Nina Ballerina Magnetic Dress Up Set, $27.95 – Something a little bit different to a standard puzzle and perfect for our budding dancer .
  • Seed Disty Pom Pom Dress, $69.95 – Because every little girl needs at least one special party dress.
  • TubArt Foam Faces and Bath Crayons Set, $21.00 – Something for a little bath time fun.
  • Minui Crealamp, $89.95 – Okay so this one might be a little bit more for me. I fell in love with this idea. Our daughter is always so proud to display her creations I know she will get a kick out of having them on display properly.
  • IKEA Lillabo Train Set, $19.99 – A few of our friends have these and all the kids love them so hopefully it will be a hit in our house too.
  • ABC Kids Humpty Dumpty Bean Toy, $16.95 – Playschool is a lifesaver in our house and Humpty is the favourite. I can imagine endless rounds of ‘Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall’ with this little guy around.
  • PuggyHouse Castle, $39.95 – A cubby house for our angel to draw all over instead of our furniture that folds away at the end of the day – brilliant!

All I want for Christmas is ….. a stress free shopping experience where I can find everything I need with the click of a button or two! Enter stage left Where Did You Get That? – www.wheredidyougetthat.com.au where proprietors Toni and Melony never fail to delight.

In store now is an extensive range of the latest clothing brands and a line up of toys just perfect for every child from infant to tween-hood. You don’t even need to go anywhere else to grab the Christmas tree: snap up the totally fab Fruut Tree, apply some tinsel and kid-made decorations and – voila! – you have a wonderfully unique tree that will live on all year. Of course no tree is complete without a selection of fabulous goodies to go under it and WDYGT? has that covered, too.

For boys  – sons, nephews and grandsons – you’ll find some awesome gifts to put under your tree from the Djeco range. For the Master Tween I’m thinking the Djeco Draw Super Heroes Felt Brushes is a great stocking stuffer, and for Master Preschooler the Djeco Knights Stamping Set is looking good. For something a little quirky, but sure to get that boy of yours grinning, add one of the Freak-o-bag range to your gift collection, or a String Doll Gang (the only dolls that are cool to be seen with!).

For girls – daughters, nieces and granddaughters – a fairy themed Christmas will earn Santa full points. Take a look at the fairy delights right here from puzzles to soft toys, castles to gorgeous figurines. If your Missy Preschooler is into role playing you will just love the kitchen, baking set and other goodies from Le Toy Van. And of course you can peruse the extensive craft range from Djeco for many glorious finds for Missy Tween or some cool new threads from Two Belles (where you’ll find 20% off all summer season).

Let’s face it, none of us want to stay at home with our kids day in, day out.  The kids would be climbing the walls to say nothing of the parents, and it wouldn’t be healthy for anyone.  But unless you’re properly equipped, getting out and about can be stressful.

Haggus & Stookles – www.haggusandstookles.com.au takes the stress out of leaving the house with your brood. Whether it’s a trip to the park or an international travel adventure, there’s everthing you need to make the experience as easy as can be.

For day trips you’ll need a sunhat for each child (I love the Chick Pea range), a water bottle or sippy cup for each kid, something to put snacks in, a nappy wallet if you have babies or toddlers, and a nice large bag to put it all in. If you’re heading off on a big holiday you’ll need all of the above plus a few extras.  The Trunki is a fabulous way of negotiating an airport with a toddler or preschooler (tried and tested many times by yours personally), and a baby carrier or sling will do the trick for littlies. Pack your child’s own carry on bag with a range of toys and activities to keep them occupied for the duration of the flight, and have a neck pillow handy to help a little person sleep.

Haggus and Stookles is offering all KidStyleFile the chance to be happy on the move for less: take 10% off everything in store – including the Specials section which has sale items reduced by up to 40%until 24 December 2010 when you enter discount code kidstylefilexmas at checkout.  Happy travels!

I love Christmas, birthdays and any other celebration you care to name. It’s just great to get together in the spirit of happiness and joy and there’s nothing better than watching kids tear wrapping paper off pressies. Once the party is over though, where do you put all that *stuff*??

We all have stuff and kids seem to accrue it with great speed so it’s important to be prepared with storage that will help you stay – and more importantly, feel – calm and organised. Say “no sweat” to stacks of toys, books, games and nic nacs with this great selection of storage options.

KidStyleFile Roundup: Kids Storage Solutions

1. This set of 4 woven backet apples from Living Like Lulu are just fabulous. My girls have 3 in their room and I’ve snaffled the fourth one for myself! Bigger and better than you expect, these make a great decor feature as well as being extremely practical. $85.00 at Gallop Lifestyle

2. The Tidy Books Bunk Buddy Bookcase offers the ideal solution to bunk dwellers and presents a fresh new take on the bedside table. $125.00 from Rose & Lily

3. The Live Create Play Fruut Tree also delivers the good in terms of function and makes a wonderful sculptural piece for your home. Dress it up as the Christmas tree and then install it in your child’s room for everyday use and wow factor. $295 at Where Did You Get That?

4. Fiona Chandler at Fiona Kate Storage sums it up with her store motto: Simple Gorgeous Storage! Made from incredibly hardy coated board these boxes come in all colours, shapes and sizes to fit every space and application. Use them instead of gift paper and get those Christmas pressies wrapped in an instant. From $14.95 at Fiona Kate

5. No one understands storage better than IKEA, and there’s a plethora of kids storage solutions on offer from these small lidded boxes to large storage options that can be on display or concealed in a wardrobe. Prices start at just a few dollars. If you don’t live near an IKEA you can order online with IKEA Direct.

6. Hip Kid’s range of kids sofas do double duty with built-in storage under the seat. Super clever and super cute! $129.00 from Hip Kids

7. Cocoon Couture’s new range of wall hooks will make your kids *want* to pick up after themselves. Complement them with the rest of the range from Cocoon Couture and get the complete award-winning look. $89.00 from Cocoon Couture

8. The latest products from wall sticker brand Forwalls, these robust canvas storage tubs in a range of designs are easy for your child (and you!) to handle and will look great in the nursery. $64.95 from Forwalls

9. Besides looking way cool, this quirky pencil holder from English design house Suck UK will keep pencils, textas and crayons in order. $39.95 from Shop Until

10. I purchased 3 of these Canvas Storage Pouches by Maron Bouillie recently and am well pleased. Equipped with hooks on the back you can hang them anywhere storage is needed. $33.00 from Gallop Lifestyle

11. If only I’d had room to stash these large woven strapping baskets from Mor-stor in my luggage when I saw them at Mathilda’s Market in Melbourne on the weekend! There is a solution though: buy online and get delivered direct to your door! $39.95 at The Little Kidz Closet

Every year in the lead up to Christmas and birthdays, I receive numerous phone calls from our extended family asking what my kidlets current interest is; what they would be at the top of their wishlist; how they could suitably indulge my children. I usually prompt them with rough category ideas: “perhaps some dress ups?” or “they just love craft these days”.  It’s always a difficult task.  Well today, ladies and gentleman, I present the perfect place to take the hassle out of gift sourcing.
