Some brands have been around for so long, and are so trusted, that they are ingrained in our consciousness; they are the very definition of the products they make – the Biro for pen, the Hoover for vacuum cleaner and the BabyBjörn for the baby carrier.

BabyBjorn was started in 1961 in Sweden by doting uncle, and future father, Björn Jakobson who noticed a lack of products on the market to help busy mums care for their young. The BabySitter seat was the first BabyBjorn product released, and it sparked a keen following across Europe. The BabyBjorn “Close to your Heart” baby carrier was released in 1973 as a result of research into the benefits of eye-to-eye and body contact with infants and is now a global icon of babywearing.

BabyBjorn is still run and owned by Björn Jakobson – he is CEO and wife Lillemor is Chief Designer – with a support team of 100. They have worked continuously to develop and improve their products in consultation with pediatricians, parents and babies to ensure optimum functionality and safety, and there are now over 20 different kinds of BabyBjorn products sold in 50 countries worldwide including their flagship carriers, bouncers and portacots, through to feeding and toileting equipment.

No anniversary is complete without a gift and BabyBjorn will be celebrating their 50th year with the launch of some extraordinary new products that will blow your socks off and enhance your parenting experience. Keep your eye on the BabyBjörn website and ‘like’ the BabyBjorn Australian Facebook page to get the heads up on imminent new product releases. In the meantime enjoy the story of BabyBjorn over the last 50 years, below.
