Dumbelle: The Girls of Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass – Pretty Smart!

While in New York I took a research trip over to Brooklyn, where I was priviledged to meet designer Elaine Pedlar, who has recently launched her new enterprise Dumbelle – www.dumbelle.com. A veteran of the fashion industry – she graduated from the Parsons School of Design in 1987, and has worked for numerous fashion house – Elaine’s talent and flair is abundantly evident in her new pop up shop at 145 Front Street, DUMBO, Brooklyn.

Named for their home locale, DUMBO (Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass), Elaine’s ‘Dumbelle’s’ are actually pretty smart! Elaine’s creations are cut out dolls for modern urban girls. Consisting of three characters (for the time being!) named May, Sunny and Katie, these urban individuals come complete with wardrobes and accoutrements that little hands can colour, cut display and play with. This is lovely way to while away the afternoon with your daughter, or little girl you know, and I think they’d be a fab party activity.

Each Dumbelle comes as a quality flat card ready to colour and cut (or you can choose precoloured) from USD$15.00. Limited editition prints and cushions are also available (POA). Elaine will happily ship to where-ever you are in the world. Write to her here.

In case you haven’t noticed, the eighties are *back*! Brights and fluros are having their day again, and this is particularly fun for kids. Cap-sac Kids www.capsackids.com – have embraced this with their new baseball-style zipper pocket caps that come in six bright colourways including “Rock Candy,” “Lemon Twist” and “Pinky Swear.” The unique feature of these cool-as caps is their zipper pocket on the front that is “perfect for stashing small snacks, art supplies, action figures, hair accessories, sunscreen, stickers”, and, my personal favourite, “brilliant ideas”.

The caps are made of 100% nylon, making them stain resistant and easy to wash and dry. Cap-sac Kids caps are available to purchase direct from the Cap-sac Kids website for USD$12.99 online. The only thing that may stand in your way is the postage charges, which start at USD$15.00 and increase with each cap you buy.
