There’s nothing like a makeover to give you a new lease on life, and that’s true for websites just as much as it is people.  Mel and the team at Whimsy Child – www.whimsychild.com.au – have just launched their newly re-designed site and it’s fantastic – so easy to navigate, so fresh and stylish and so full of all their wonderful stock!

Speaking of stock, I have to highlight some gorgeous new products that caught my eye.  Firstly, make sure you have a look at the new retro-inspired lunch boxes from So Young Mother. These lunchboxes are PVC and phthalate-free, feature a coated linen exterior (which wipes clean!) while the interior is fully insulated to keep food hot or cold for hours. They are so funky that they might make you want to return to school yourself! I’d also suggest checking out Glug – currently spring/summer is in stock and if you like it then grab it now as it sold out well before summer ever arrived last year.  I love the Monkey Tee!

And make sure you allow time for a good dig through the expansive sale section as the bargains there are well worth grabbing.  Brands like Daily Tea, Coco & Ginger, Shampoodle and Glug are marked down by up to 45%!  When you combine that with the Whimsy Child Rewards Points system it’s really extremely good value.

For a limited time you can get FREE SHIPPING on your order! No minimum spend and no code is needed, just select the relevant option when you checkout.

My family has a long-running tradition of holding a Christmas celebration in July. We do the whole nine yards: put up the Christmas decorations (although usually just for a day or two), cook a big traditional Christmas feast, give small Kris Kringle gifts and generally we all get very silly.  It’s all so much fun!

The girls at Where Did You Get That? – www.wheredidyougetthat.com.au – share my enthusiasm for mid-year Christmas, and as part of their own celebrations they’re holding a ‘Christmas In July’ sale!  Until 20 July 2011 you can get jolly with 20% off *everything* in the enormous Christmas In July Sale category using the code KSFXJULY (note: the code is case sensitive; excludes DressYourDoll products). You can score some amazing bargains on truly fantastic toys including Fruut Tree and Fruut Sacks, Automoblox, Djeco, Le Toy Van, Budkins and Crazy Forts! To boot you can scoop up to 50% off selected fashion! Perhaps you could even look ahead to Christmas in December and stock up on some pressies at bargain prices!

There also are loads of new products instore at WDYGT? just now. I love the new Contigo drink bottles which are spill-proof, leakproof and BPA free – and in addition to having a range of great Contigo styles for kids they cater to adults too. New products from Djeco are always worth checking out, and their latest, the ‘Children Of The World’ coloured sand workshop, is no exception.  The Budkin triple pack bridal party is guaranteed to be a winner with wedding crazy little girls (and their mums!) while WDYGT?’s range of MOJO beanbags is expanding with a range of great new designs starting at just $37.95.

So jingle your bells over to WDYGT? and check it all out!

Playtime Paris Trade Show, 2011: A Stunning Showcase Of International Designer Children’s Brands

Playtime Paris is an international trade show that showcases some of the most gorgeous and imaginative international designer children’s brands. Trade shows like Playtime Paris allow retailers to check out collections from designers for delivery to shops in the following year: the retailers essentially go home with a big shopping list of beautiful products for us to enjoy later on!

This year Playtime Paris had over 300 international brands exhibiting. Many of the international brands are already some of our firm favourites, such as Bobo ChosesLe Vestiaire de Jeanne, Severina Kids, Atsuyo Et Akiko and Noro.

I was delighted to uncover some other cool brands like Italian brand Monsieur Cucu, a super chic label for babies, kids and women. I also adored the super cute Snooshy softies which are hand knitted from Tibetan Yak wool and can be accessorised with on-trend outfits made from fashion industry off-cuts!

Playtime has finished in Paris for now, but will be heading to New York and Tokyo later this month to showcase local and international brands in those fantastic cities.

1. Le Vestiaire de Jeanne
2. Bang Bang Copenhagen
3. New Generals
4. Bobo Choses

6. Monsieur Cucu
7. Noro

The Best Things To Do In San Francisco {With Kids}

Posted: July 12th, 2011

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

I’ve recently returned from a few weeks in the US with my family and I’m sharing my recommendations for the best things to do with kids in the cities we visited this time. I’ve already shared Los Angeles here, and New York  Part 1 and Part 2 , and today is the final instalment, San Francisco. Starting next week we travel the cities of Australia to bring you some great tips and tricks for our home cities.

Have things to add to my list? Please share by leaving a comment on this post :)

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

1. Streetscapes San Francisco, the city by the bay, is a breath of fresh air in every single way. On the way in from the airport the wide, shallow bay spreads out beside you, while the hills climb on the other side, covered with double-storey shingled roofed dwellings that represent the city’s European immigrant history during the California Gold Rush. A cool breeze blows and keeps the sky clear, offering a big vista.  Each of San Francisco’s districts (the Castro, Mission, Potrero, Market, Nob Hill, Haight-Ashbury, Noe Valley (where we stayed in the most exquisite Victorian home – reasonably priced too!), Union Square, Russian Hill, The Richmond) represent quite discrete cultural and culinary tastes offering a wide range of experience for locals and visitors. A car is not needed to explore; a combination of San Fran’s trolley cars, light rail, taxi network and your own two feet are all you need to explore, and it’s a very worthwhile experience. See images 2, 3 and 6 below. All images copyright 2011, Angela Anderson, KidStyleFile.com.au. All rights reserved.

2. Bridges Before I visited San Francisco I was of the impression that the Golden Gate Bridge was right in San Francisco city and named for it’s red colour. It turned out that both of those assumptions were wrong! The bridge that is located in the city proper is in fact the (Oakland) Bay Bridge; the Golden Gate Bridge is located about half and hour’s drive from the cite at Fort Point, and named for the strait it soars over, and is definitely worth the trip. Deified by literature and film, the Golden Gate Bridge is a magnificent example of engineering prowess and aesthetic beauty – it’s truly breathtaking to behold. See image 1 below. 3. Parks San Francisco is blessed with many beautiful parks – 200 of them, no less! – but the standout for me is the substantial and richly featured Golden Gate Park. Located about 10 mins from the Golden Gate Bridge, the Golden Gate Park’s 1,017 acres (it’s massive – a full 20% bigger than New York’s Central Park!) holds wonderful opportunities for recreation and enjoyment, including a model boat pond, a small herd of Bison, Japanese Gardens and Tea Rooms,  Botanical Gardens, California Academy of Sciences and more. A thoroughly enjoyable day our for the whole family. See images 4, 5, and 7 below. All images copyright 2011, Angela Anderson, KidStyleFile.com.au. All rights reserved.

4. Food From the Ferry Plaza farmer’s market to pizza at Twin Peaks, to pastries at Tartine, to fine dining at Incanto to high tea at the delightfully decorated and utterly delicious Lovejoy’s Tea Rooms, the food we had in San Francisco was *divine*!! There’s something here for every taste and budget. See image 8 below. All images copyright 2011, Angela Anderson, KidStyleFile.com.au. All rights reserved.

5. Science and Art San Francisco is not short on high culture: there’s a world class Philharmonic Orchestra, SFMOMA (San Francisco Museum of Modern Art), and more, but the absolute highlight of them all for us was Exploratorium, the museum of science, art and human perception.  Exploratorium is, by it’s own admission, not “ just a museum, it’s an ongoing exploration of science, art, and human perception—a vast collection of online interactives, web features, activities, programs and events that feed your curiosity.” The original hands-on science museum, Exploratorium is comprised of literally hundreds of fantastic experiments that teach us about the forces that govern our world. I cannot say enough good things about this incredible place – it’s a must for young and old alike. See images at 9 below. All images copyright 2011, Angela Anderson, KidStyleFile.com.au.
