It has long been a tradition to bestow pretty bone china to children when they’re born. It is such a delicate thing for inquisitive little hands, and I must admit I do prefer enjoying precious pieces at a safe distance from little hands. I think the key is to keep it up high, out of harm’s way until they are old enough to handle them with care.

A very cute decorative collection that I’ve got my eye on is Milo Makes – www.milomakes.bigcartel.com. Her range of original hand drawn ceramic pieces are inspired by the circus, animals and her childhood in the Caribbean. Now living in the UK, Emma is mum to three littlies and spends her spare time making these adorable plates, mugs and egg cups. Although they can be used with care, I would much rather enjoy them as an ornament, they’re just too cute! I know my boys would love the simple imagery and I think they would look so great hung on their bedroom wall.

Milo Makes is available from their Big Cartel store and they ship worldwide. Prices start at £22.
