I am known to become so caught in the riveting plot of my latest novel only to look at the clock and realize *gasp* that I need to get up and get ready for work in an hour or two. My love for books all started when I was very young thanks to another book lover – my mum. She introduced me to my childhood heroines: Pippi Longstocking, Trixie Beldon, and Anne Shirley. They were strong, often quirky, often a little naughty. They shaped many of my daydreams and built my resilience to adversity (I would often ask myself, “What would Anne do?”).
I’m now focused on developing a strong love of literature in my own children. My efforts have not gone unnoticed. On her last birthday, Miss N was gifted a truly lovely Australian picture book titled It’s A Miroocool by Christine Harris. It was our first introduction to Audrey Barlow, aka Audrey Of The Outback, a charismatic little girl growing up in the Outback with her two brothers Price and Dougie, and perhaps Australia’s very own version of Pippi Longstocking. My daughter instantly found a kindred spirit after joining Audrey on her quest to ensure the tooth fairy would find her newly lost tooth, even though she was so far inland.
Such is our love for the very likable Audrey that we have just ordered Audrey Of The Outback and Audrey Goes To Town to supplement our collection. You’ll find them at Book Depository from $7.21 with FREE postage.
