Over the last few months I have found myself searching for fabrics, patterns and craft projects. The last time I touched a sewing machine was back in Year 9 Textiles, so I am taking things slowly. What I do have is an eye for gorgeous fabrics, so I have started developing my own little stash in preparation for my up-skilling.

In my quest for the perfect fabric I have discovered Saffron Craig - saffroncraig.com - an Australian fabric designer from Sydney’s northern beaches. Her fabrics are sought after around the world, and she was recently selected as one of 10 artists to design a bespoke illustration for Lego’s 50 year anniversary in Australia – pretty amazing for someone who has only been designing fabric for four years!

Saffron’s contemporary designs are inspired by Australia: including memories of the coastal town where she grew up, the bush, the blossoms of the trees around her and animals she spots on her travels. Her fabrics can be transformed into whatever you desire from cushions to bags, or clothing for your little one. My ‘hot buy’ suggestion is the Child’s Coat Pattern Kit which includes the pattern, fabric and lining (see image below).

Shop Saffron Craig’s range at her online boutique. Items are priced from $2.95, with worldwide shipping available.
