When it comes to introducing the magic of words and the imagination to your children, picture books are the best medium. Push aside the iPad for a moment, and draw in the tactile indulgence and visual bliss a carefully selected book can provide.

This month is all about magic and animals in our house. School holidays have provided us with ample opportunity to revisit past favourites as well as reading some delights gifted over Christmas. Top of our wish list was Olivia and the Fairy Princesses. We always chuckle at her adventures, and we just love this new release – what a cheeky girl Olivia is! My son has been delighted by Dragons Love Tacos and The Three Ninja Pigs, and as a family we are just about to start Philip Pullman’s Fairy Tales from the Brothers Grimm: A New English Version.

As a fan of Beatrix Potter I am intrigued by Emma Thompson’s The Further Tale of Peter Rabbit, and have just ordered it along with Tolkien’s Bilbo’s Last Song. What are you reading?
