Swimwear Fashion Feature: Surf’s Up, Stay Cool when it’s Hot this Summer

Posted: November 21st, 2008

Today’s post written by Kat

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Now that the weather is finally heating up, it’s time to make the most of the sunshine: here’s my rundown on the coolest picks for summer swimwear. No daggy coveralls here! Each piece has passed the cute-and-cool test, presents great value for money and most importantly, will keep precious little skin protected in the scorching summer sun (and always remember to slip, slop, slap!)

Tkxi Surf do funky, yet understated,  prints in practical as well as downright cool styles. For boys I’m loving the Bones Board Shorts ($45, sizes 0-7) and Bats Rashie ($55, sizes 2-8), plus a great alternative to Speedo-style: the Euroleg pants ($33 sizes 0-8).

Girls can choose from cute one- or two-pieces, rashies and sets, and the chic colour combos and pretty prints make it darn hard to choose! My picks include the *cute-as* Ladybird One Piece ($55), the gorgeously bright printed Wonderland One Piece ($49, sizes 2-5) and for a touch of glam, the right on-trend Disco Fairy Frill Two-Piece ($50, 0-8).

Above: Selection of baby and kids swimwear from Tkxsi Surf

Baby’s Got Style stock Seafolly and Tiger Joe by Seafolly - classic Aussie style, in little people sizes! Possibly the coolest set I’ve seen for boys is the Camo Set ($54.95, sizes 1-7) and little boys will just love the GI Joe Truck Slime Rashie (the name says it all, really! $39.95, sizes 0-3). They also do very funky swim hats - try the Slime Camo ($34.95, size 1-3+) to match back with your other cool buys!

Girls can just drip with cuteness in just about any of the beautiful designs by Seafolly - you won’t be able to contain your “OMG!! That is soooo cute!!!”’s when you see your little princess in the Rose Ballerina Tutu tank ($59.95, 0-3) and I am in love with the bright swirly print of the Soda one-piece ($49.95, sizes 2-6).

Bubs are also catered for with the pink Ruffle nappy pant ($34.95, sizes 00-2), and everyone can do sun safety in style with the Swim Hats ($29.95, sizes 0-3+).

Above: Selection of baby and kids swimwear from Baby’s Got Style

Monster Baby know their stuff - with a background combining surfing and fashion, you know you’re onto a winner! From the classic Skulls to the uber cool Xray print in black or white to the hippy-cute Rainbow Love in hot pink  ($45, sizes 00-5)  they’re made in Aus, they stand out from the crowd and trust me, they last through more than just one summer of swimming!

Above: Selection of baby and kids swimwear from Monster Baby

Hugely popular Cuddlefish is available by the bucketload at The Hip Infant. From the genius Buoyancy Suit ($69.95, sizes 2-4) to the sweetest swim shorts ($24.95, sizes 1-4) and thoughtfully designed long ($44.95, sizes 1-4) and short sleeve swim tees ($39.95, sizes 1-4), you can complete a perfectly matched outfit with the UPF50+ Bucket Hats ($29.95)!

Above: Selection of baby and kids swimwear from The Hip Infant

One of the biggest swimwear ranges online is at Little Explorers, and if your tot is serious about their style then this is the place to go! The Goldie Tankini ($29.95 on sale, sizes 2-5) is beautifully bright and girly, as is the gorgeous Judy Jetson Tankini ($29.95, sizes 2-6). They also have a great range of protective long sleeve rashies by Loose Boots - girls can go pretty in Pink and boys will love the cool combi print on Blue (both $44.95 on sale, sizes 1-6). I’m also thinking this Major Menace Reversible Rashie ($29.95 on sale, sizes 3-4) would be a big hit with cool little dudes!

Above: Selection of baby and kids swimwear from Little Explorers

For a massive range of girl’s togs, head on over to Where Did You Get That? for the brilliantly priced, mix’n'match range from the USA, Girls 4 Sport.

With heaps of cool boardies, rashies, tops and bottoms, all in SPF50+ material, you can create your own look without breaking the budget! I’m thinking the Leilani Rashguard ($31.95, sizes 2-8) would look increditbly cute with the pink Swim Skort, or if you’re not so much into pink, the Pixie Swim Top ($24.95, sizes 2-8) and matching Swim Shorts ($24.95, sizes 2-8) make for a welcome burst of summery colour!

Finally, if you’d rather choose your own adventure, head on over to Mooo, who can customise a Rashie for you. Choose from 30 unique designs, and 6 colour choice per design. They’re just $39.95 for a short-sleeved Rash top including choice of your design and customisation. Phew! That’s hot!

What’s Under Our Tree: Nerida’s Top 10 Christmas Picks

Posted: November 16th, 2008

Today’s post written by Nerida

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Ok, it’s officially time for me to seriously plan the Christmas festivities for our house. And what better place to start than with the kids!

Without further ado, here are the pressies that will be gracing our tree this year.

1. First up on my Top 10 is a dress for my girl to wear on Christmas Day. I have long been a fan of Scanlan and Theodore, and now channel this love to Fiona Scanlan’s beautiful BIG label, for kids. The Daisy and Little Print dress is top of my list - available from www.bucketsandspades.com.au.

2. Like most three year olds, my daughter loves role playing (which currently extends to her begging to help iron her clothes - hope that one continues!) and Le Toy Van make the most beautiful kitchens and accessories. I am sure she will love the Honeybake Breakfast set from Little Possums Toys - www.littlepossumtoys.com.au.

3. So far my 6 month old is quite happy for me to decorate his room so I am going to get him one of the delightful Shinzi Katoh prints from Kinder Gallery www.kindergallery.com.au.

4. Next up, another gift for my soon-to-be-mobile son. He should start walking in the next 6 months so I need to find something fun, attractive, and durable, to kep him busy. I love the Bajo Jumping Frogs Push Toy - available from Send A Toy - www.sendatoy.com.au

5. To help my boy look even cuter than normal on the day, the Munster Wild Things tee should do the trick. Available from Itty Bitty Yuppy - www.ittbittyyuppy.com.au.

6-8. Christmas just wouldn’t be complete without a swag of books to relax with on a hot summer’s day. We have long been fans of Janet and Allan Ahlberg and the book Burglar Bill will be perfect for my girl while Julia Donaldson’s latest, Stick Man, will be a nice one to read aloud to my son. I am also very happy to see Nigella Lawson has released a new book for the festive season on the festive season. I will be hoping to receive her book Nigella’s Christmas from someone this year (better start dropping hints!). All books available from  Fishpond - www.fishpond.com.au

9. We are in desperate need of a new stroller and I have my eye on the Silver Cross Dazzle. I love the range of colours - hopefully there will be enough Christmas cash leftover to get one! Available from Tiny People - www.tinypeople.com.au

10. And finally, some crafts for my daughter. The Djeco Princesses Stamp/Ink Pad will be a big hit. Available from Where Did You Get That? - www.wheredidyougetthat.com.au

1. Big by Fiona Scanlan Daisy and Little Print Dress $74.95
2. Le Toy Van Honeybake Breakfast Set  $94.95

Shoes for Tiny People: The Lowdown on What’s Hot this Summer

Posted: November 14th, 2008

Today’s post written by Kat.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

If we all live vicariously through our kids in some way, big or small, then I am guilty of amassing a shoe collection for my daughter which would make Imelda proud. And hopefully jealous.

A toddler’s feet grow so much faster than an adult’s, so, you know, it’s simply a necessity to keep her feet well-shod. That’s what we tell Daddy, anyway!

She’s got everything from supersoft handmade in Morocco flats (we got them at Where Did You Get That?) to Parisian Ballets in shiny Red (from the lovely Kim over at Itty Bitty Yuppy) and even genuine vintage patent black Mary Janes (my first pair of shoes, handed down!)

So what will we be adding to the collection for Summer?

A browse through department stores reveals a whole lotta not much, so thank goodness for online shopping - think bucketloads of colour and a dash of metallics contrasted with fresh whites and neutrals.

Here are my picks of the labels and stores to look out for:

Babies:

Skeanie have developed cool summer sandals, in classic blue and pink right through to bright red and chic navy. Made from soft leather with suede soles, they’re easy to wash, easy to put on, and easy on the purse at just $29.95!

Similarly, you can find the gorgeous Cheeky Little Soles label at Baby’s Got Style - check out these uber-funky Retro Blue shoes, or try the girly, shiny Nesting Sandals over at Ekidna Kids, both for $35.95!

Seed shoes are not only affordable, but so darn cute - check out these baby Havianas ($24.95), stylish Metallic Sandals ($39.95), nautical Leather Moccassins ($39.95) and hip Velcro Runners ($39.95) for the most stylish tot on the block!

Tip Toey Joey is synonymous with sleek, classic styles and top class quality - I can’t go past these fresh white Mary Janes ($42.95) at LillieLuca for teaming with pretty summer frocks, or these rich chocolate Leather Sandals ($49.50) at Buckets & Spades for matching back with crisp summer neutrals. Sigh.

Or, try Tiny Steps for a gorgeous range of baby and infant shoes - they stock the brilliant Pediped range (I’m hearting the Olivia white sandals, $42.95, and the Colin classic dark brown, $42.95), as well as Bibi, Sweet Shoes, Diddle Dumpling, Shooshoos….and oh so much more!

Little People:

A constant in my daughter’s shoe closet is New Zealand label Bobux, designers of the original “elastomatic” ankle support system and with an ever expanding range including eco-friendly leathers. I don’t know if it’s possible to go past the cute as can be Jnr Ballet Shoe ($49.95) or the i-Walk Sandals in Marine or CherryMadison Lane. ($59.95) at

Yunginz is a new label on the Australian market, priding themselves on funky, original designs without compromising on quality. The Candy Stripe shoes ($44.95) look so modern but are covered in pretty, girly stripes to match any outfit! Boys (or Mum, at least) will love the Velcro Sandoze Sandals ($35.95) ‘cos they go with absolutely everything! Check the website for stockists.

I’m also loving Chook Leaf, with simple yet strikingly cool designs, such as the silver Welsummer Sandal Hamburg Boy’s Sandal ($55) at Cocoon Living, and the Sussex Sandal ($59.95 at Dragonfly Store) - they all just scream breezy summer sophistication!

If only all of these labels made Mummy-sizes…..!

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Do you have a little aqua princess who adores splashing in the shallows or an active girl who loves to swim?  If you do, check out the new range of swimwear for girls at Where Did You Get That? - www.wheredidyougetthat.com.au.

Called Girls 4 Sport, it is appropriately practical and attractive, with bold, colourful prints and made from 50+UV swim fabric. With a wide range of styles including board shorts, rashies (long and short sleeve), swim shorts and skorts, and tie swim tops, there’s something to suit every little mermaid.

To celebrate the arrival of Girls 4 Sport at Where Did You Get That?, every order containing at least one piece of G4S swimwear will receive FREE SHIPPING until the 28th of October!  All you need to do is select ‘Girls 4 Sport Free Shipping’ at checkout.

Now I know that deal is only for girls swimwear, but mums of boys (like me!) don’t despair: Where Did You Get That? is giving us 20% off all boys clothes and footwear for the same period, until the 28th of October! The code to get this discount is BOY-KSF, enter it at checkout.

What about if you have a pigeon pair or more?  Even better news for you: both deals apply!  So you can get 20% off all boys clothes and shoes and free shipping if you buy at least one piece of G4S swimwear!

Where Did You Get That? stock some of the best kids designer gear around. Besides the new G4S swimwear range, I love the new season Tommy Rocket and sister-brand Two Belles range. Vintage-inspired fabrics and prints dominate Summer this year, along with intricate embroidery and funky florals for Two Belles and dinosaur prints and retro checks for Tommy Rocket.  Your kids will be decked out in style with this gear!

Further fashion picks include Daily Tea and Tea Collection.  Originally from San Francisco, the Tea range comprises of Tea Collection, a higher end collection with some beautiful special occasion pieces, and Daily Tea, an every day affordable range which doesn’t sacrifice excellent design or quality.  The Tea ranges are all inspired by global cultures - it’s fun to try to work out which piece is inspired by which culture!

Where Did You Get That? has an enormous range of Djeco which just puts them even higher in my esteem - I love Djeco’s twist on French chic and their creative supplies and games.

My absolute favourite product at Where Did You Get That? is the Djeco Poem Tree Wall Sticker set.  Exquisitely whimsical, this wall art will turn any nursery or playroom into a dreamy, thoughtful space with a hint of playfulness to it.  It’s also astonishingly well priced at $47.95 for the 70cm x 100cm sticker sheet containing 95 removeable stickers.

The other products I wanted to bring to your attention are the hilarious cuckoo clocks by Coo Clocks. No ordinary cuckoo clock, these - each one has a different animal appearing on the hour such as an elephant, a chook, a dog, a sheep and so on.  These cuckoo clocks will entertain your kids all day but they won’t drive you mad at night, as they come equipped with a light sensor which automatically shuts the character off when the room is dark.

Do you, like me, often see baby and kids goods that you find so irresistibly attractive that you find yourself asking total strangers “Where did you get that?”

Well today I’d like to introduce you to style-savvy sisters Toni and Melony, who through their passion for everything unique and high quality in the realm of baby and kids, can help connect you with all the coolest threads, shoes, toys, accessories and decor from both faraway and nearby via their new web store ‘Where Did You Get That?‘ - www.wheredidyougetthat.com.au.

Where Did You Get That? stock exquisite brands including Aden + Anais, BabyMoov Bebedelice and Lovenest, Bella Tunno, Bod and Bod for Bubs hair and skin-care, Coco Boheme, Coo Clocks, Deglingos, Djeco, eco.kid, Lelli Kelly, Moppit, Morgan & Milo, Opal London, Pink + Blue Yummy Mummy, Star & Rose, Tea Collection, Tommy Rocket, Two Belles, Zid Zid Kids.

I want to have a little rave about a few of my personal favourites new to Australia, and brought to you exclusively by Where Did You Get That? Firstly, Tea Collection, a US brand that promotes a multi-cultural ethos in design and celebrates children as “little citizens of the world”.

Before Where Did You Get That? came along I always sourced Tea Collection from the US. Needless to say, I am so thrilled to have a local supplier!

Tea Collection make two affordable ranges: Tea Collection for kids 2+ and Daily Tea for 0-2 years.

I can tell you from personal experience that the quality of Tea Collection is just superb. The cottons they use never pill or fade, and the cuts are tailored beautifully.

Their jeans are the best fit I have found (adjustable waist joy!), and the denim is softened to prevent chafing.

The dresses are thoughtfully designed, and always feature beautiful detailing. To prove that I put my money where my mouth is, see the picture below of one of my daughters wearing one of her Tea Collection pieces: the Journey Dress, happily available at Where Did You Get That? so you can get a piece of the action too :)

wdygt-clothes.jpg

Clockwise from top left:

Tea Collection Mendoza Boys 3 piece outfit - $155.00
Daily Tea Flower Fan Tunic - Limon - $29.95
Tea Collection Mopti Print Dress - Birch - $84.95
Tea Collection Journey Dress in Aubergine - $56.00
Tea Collection Tereli Yarn Dyed Indigo Pant - $64.95

Next on my list of faves is Morgan & Milo. An inspired addition to the world of children’s footwear, Morgan & Milo is the creative output of Mia Abbruzzese, who started Morgan & Milo to fill the gap for affordable, classic shoes. Morgan & Milo shoes have their heart in the quality of the past, and their head in the modern day, fusing fun and fashion in a way that is infinitely wearable, and never too precious.

Also in the shoe department at Where Did You Get That? is the unrestrained embellished decadence of Lelli Kelly from Italy. Not just a pretty face, Lelli Kelly shoes are designed for optimal comfort and foot health.

Morgan & Milo Navy Flame Slip-on - $44.95
Morgan & Milo Silver Sparkle Mary-Jane - $49.95
Lelli Kelly Iris Cross Mild - $105.00

Finally, you know I can never go past a good toy or decor piece. Where Did You Get That? is thrilling me with its well considered selection.

Firstly, Djeco from France. Djeco make a wonderful range of toys, puzzles and craft sets for kids, and Where Did You Get That? is stocking a comprehensive amount of them.

I just adore the Stamps Magical Dresses set which features ink pads, 14 stampers and 20 cutout princesses to decorate.

If you’re looking for amusement for smaller kids then the Djeco block puzzles make for a sweet occupation with their classic illustrations. Where Did You Get That? is selling the 4 packs so affordably too!

If you’re looking for an imaginative and unusual buddy for your little one then the divine Deglingos, again from France, fit the bill perfectly. Everything but run of the mill, Deglingos creatures are constructed of a range of high quality textured fabric that is sure to last a lifetime of companionship,

A delightful decor element is the Coo Clock from the USA. Besides being utterly whimsical this clock is clever too: it has a sensor that detects when it’s dark so it won’t bark, cheep or moo at midnight!

For out and about check out the Bella Tunno Designer Diner. It’s a funky, wipe-clean placement on one side and a reusable chalk mat on the other. It’s a portable imagination station for little artists and a traveling table for little eaters! Includes a 12 piece box of non-toxic colored chalk and a detachable chalk pouch. Never be stuck for entertainment when you’re out and about again!

Finally, one of my most beloved favourite brands, Zid Zid Kids.

Zid Zid Kids are pure imagination realised. Zid Zid Kids is a fair-trade company based in Marrakech, Morocco, and is the fusion of the creativity of husband and wife team Moulay and Julie, and Moroccan crafts-people. The result is stunning!

Where Did You Get That? is stocking bags, belts, shoes and these fabulous dress-up masks from Zid Zid. Bring the magic of Africa into your home!
