Happy Easter Everybunny from all of us here at KidStyleFile!

Here at my house we’ve all just had Easter eggs for brekkie - yum! We’re looking forward to heading out to a picnic lunch with family, and learning to ride our new big-girl bikes (mini Giants that have more bling than Zamels!!) - thanks, K-Rudd ;)

There are a great range of Easter events happening all over the country today if you’re looking for some community and entertainment. Here are my picks for each state and territory.

NSW - Sydney: Royal Easter Show - Ticketed event. If it’s good enough for Elle Macpherson, well….
VIC - Bendigo: Polyglot Theatre’s ‘We Built This City‘ at Bendigo Easter Festival - FREE
TAS - Burnie: Kids In The Park - FREE
QLD - Townsville: Hatching the Past at the Museum of Tropical Queensland - FREE
SA - Marananga: Easter Family Fun Day at Whistler Wines - FREE
WA - Perth: Rockingham Easter Carnival - FREE
ACT - Easter Egg Hunt and Bonnet Parade - FREE
NT - Aileron Bush Weekend - FREE

If you’re planning at an-home day then check out the KSF Easter roundup for craft ideas and inspiration.

I’ll leave you with my top pick of events happening today - the Polyglot Theatre ‘We Built This City’ project, happening in Bendigo, Victoria, today. This project travels around, so be sure to keep an eye out for when it’s coming your way. Have a very Happy Easter :)

Today is Good Friday. It’s a day of religious observance for many, and a day of rest for most.

However you spend your day, I hope you are surrounded by the warmth of family and friends, and that you can put your feet up for a moment.

For those who were curious about the outcome of our Kindergarten Easter Chick Cupcake Adventure, a few pictures to show you what a success it was - they became the centrepiece of the Bunny Brunch; saved on packaging and time. Give it a try over the break; it will make you, and your tiny charges, smile big!

Eggcellant Easy Easter Crafts to Enjoy with Your Kids

Posted: April 7th, 2009

Today’s post written by Angela

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

I’m looking forward to some nice quality time with my kids over Easter. There’s nothing more I enjoy than having the time to get down to some art and craft with them, and what better motivation than an event to get me focused.

Martha Stewart - www.MarthaStewart.com - bona fide all-round domestic goddess, has a super range of easy and fun Easter crafts to enjoy with your child (and ideas for just about any cooking/decorating/crafting theme you can think of, anytime!)

I’m not the most capable crafter, or cook, in the world, but I am feeling cautiously optimistic about the ideas below. I’m planning to make most of these with my children (how utterly tastefully beautiful are those bunny ears!!?).

I’m hoping that the Easter Chick Cupcakes will be a big hit in my kids’ kindergarten class where I’m parent-helping on Thursday. We’re going to be baking the cupcakes and making the icing from scratch, then decorating them before packaging them into take-home gifts then enjoying a ‘Bunny Brunch’.

They’ll be 20 kids, and we have 2 hours to do the job. How hard can it be? I’ll be sure to keep you posted!

Update: See the results here!

A. How to Make Envelope Bunnies: I love this cute, easy and practical option. Even the littlest bunny can help with the glueing, and filling the envelope.

B. How to Make Easter Bunny Box: A little book and a couple of chocolate eggs inside this very elegant box are sure to delight.

C. How to Make Pipe Cleaner Chicks and Basket: Don’t you just love the versatility of pipe cleaners. these chicks are so much tweeter than their store-bought counterparts.

D. How to Make Bunny Ears: These are the chicest bunny ears I have ever seen. They’d look great using brown paper instead of pink to make hoppy brown ears.

E. How to Make Pom Pom Bunnies: Super cute bunny pals. The perfect buddy for any egg treat.

F. How to Make Silk Print Easter Eggs: This image does not do this amazing egg craft justice: the results are absolutely *stunning*!! Use old silk ties, a non-metal pot, water, and some vinegar, and be filled at the wonderment of the alchemy between them. Kids can help with the slection of the ties, the wrapping and tieing, unwrapping and ‘glazing’.

Easter Fashion for Every Taste

Posted: April 3rd, 2009

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

I have to admit something: I am not a fan of theme-dressing. Sparkly christmas earrings give me hives; licenced kidswear causes nausea.

So, thinking about ‘Easter Fashion’ I nearly choked on my Creme egg (theme-chocolates I can handle).

Thankfully, I’ve realised you can be cheerfully festive and dressed to impress, without the need for fluffy bunny ears…(though if you can’t resist, try the hip version: Rock Your Baby’s Rabbit knit hat, available at Baby’s Got Style for $29.95. Adorable!)

Nanny Pickle’s Bad Bunny Collection is so cute and cheeky it wins my vote for rabbit-themed clobber. Clobber, though, is a bit harsh, because this collection is made from supersoft bamboo and organic fabrics that are just luscious to touch, and come complete with important life lessons such as “Eat your Crusts” and “Don’t Run With Scissors”. Hehe! You can find the Bad Bunny at La Toriana from $19.95.

Cradlerock have a handy Easter section which includes these funky rabbit tees and hoody by Tiny Mammoth (designed by Beci Orphin of Princess Tina fame). How cool is this unique take on a gorgeous vintage print?!

Quinn Macool’s take on bunny prints is, erm, cool! From the cute retro “I Believe” (aaw!) to the “How To Draw A Bunny” tee, perfect for little artistes, you can personalise everything to your taste and nab a nifty new tee for only $22!

But if the only bunnies you want to see this Easter are of the chocolate variety, you could instead have fun putting together a gorgeous new outfit to celebrate:

Baby: Keep little ones warm and snug with a funky romper from Onesies - you’d be hard pressed to go past the simple and chic prints from Danish label Nanoou ($42, 0-12 months), teamed with this versatile, soft velour hat by Gertie & Me ($9.95) and gorgeous matching booties ($9.95; both available at The Hip Infant) for maximum aw-factor. You could also add a sweet little cardi like this one from Purebaby ($32.47 on sale from Just Ripe) for extra warmth and cuteness!

Little Boys: If Nanna’s going to be at Easter lunch, it might be wise to leave your rock’n'roll tees at home, and go for a timeless piece like this Wonderboy Stripe tee ($39.95, 6m-7Y, from Itty Bitty Yuppy). Work it with some classic denim (Munster Stovey 2 Jeans, $80, sizes 2-10; from Tiny People) and retro cool trainers - Adidas Country Stripe, $59.95, sizes US4-10; from Kido Store). If it’s cool, skip the hoody and go for a smart jacket like the Steve Mac coat from Freshbaked (on sale for $29.95 at BabysGotStyle). Watch out, ladies!

Little Girls: We all know how spoilt for choice little girls are now days when it comes to fashion - it’s hard to narrow down a party frock but this week my pick is Polka’s Black Birdy Frou Dress ($99, sizes 3-7; from BabysGotStyle). Accessorise with a slouchy knitted hat (Toshi, $18.95) and ribbed tights for a nice play on texture (Marquise knit tights, $9.95, both also from BabysGotStyle) - or try printed legwarmers scrunched at the ankle if you’re really cool (Huggalugs, $14.50 on sale from My Baby Rocks). Shoes? Yunginz Classeez ($59.95) are pretty enough for every occassion!

Please check individual stores for postage and delivery details. Always check the KSF All Current Deals page to see if you are eligible for any discount.

Somewhat aloof, mythical, and mesmerising, the rabbit form has remained virtually unchanged since its first apprearance on the planet. The rabbit is a great design, and a master of reproduction, and therefore, along with the chick and egg, an iconic symbol of Easter abundance and - plus they’re super cute!!

The KSF Great Easter Gift Guide: Toys to Love

Posted: March 31st, 2009

Today’s post written by Miki

………………………………………………………………………………………………

Easter is a joyous time of year. Its significance changes from family to family, but whether it be your annual reason to attend church or mass, to go on the hunt for your area’s best hot cross buns, or painstakingly bake your own - my neighbour does this which impresses me more than I can say! - to have a family gathering, to go on holiday, or to eat your body weight in chocolate, Easter is a special time.

Children at Easter time are often the recipients of gifts, and although these have often consisted of chocolate in the past, trends are changing.  More and more parents want to make Easter special for their kids without having to put up with the little ones’ huge sugar-fueled tantrums or clean up chocolate vomit!  And so the hunt for clever, stylish, non-edible Easter gifts begins.

Below is a small selection of my favourites for little people. A couple of stores that deserve special mentions are Happy Little Hippos, who have a wonderful Easter Gift section to make your life easy, and ShopHouse who have a generous 25% off a selection of Cocoon Couture beanbags - the designs which feature bunnies, naturally ;)

Stay tuned for more great Easter ideas, coming every day this week - from fashion to gifts, to craft, we’ve got Easter covered!
