For back to childcare/pre-school/kinder/school supplies you just can’t go by Kinder Kaboodle – www.kinderkaboodle.com.au. This fabulous store, run by genuine sweetheart Bernice, is purpose-built to make life kitting your kids as easy as pie.

For backpacks, large enough to accommodate lunch, snacks, art projects, and a change of clothes, whilst still being small enough for a little person to carry, choose from Kinder Kaboodle’s fab range from Rush, Tiger Tribe, Mini Rhubarb, Fleurville (my personal faves!), and Zebra Crossing (now on sale!). For swim bags and library bags, check out the range from Kiddysac. Choose from the cute range of bag tags from The Bag Tag Studio to ensure that your backpack is easily identifiable.

Drink bottles from Alex & Charli, Rush and Tatiri are essential to keep your little one hydrated.

Lunch boxes are another essential, and the insulated varieties are great for keeping food fresh and bacteria free. Fleurville Kids, and Fridge-To-Go lunch bags are just the thing. There are also a super selection of lunch bags from Penny Scallan, Bestever, 4 My Earth (fantastic eco-friendly options!), Crocodile Creek, and Rush.

Many schools are now requesting that your child front up with a hand towel with a loop. Kinder Kaboodle saves the day, with towels from Feef (who also make the world’s best smocks, in my opinion -  *nothing* can soak through these babies!).

Name personalisation services are also available on many of the products at Kinder Kaboodle – Kinder Kaboodle is a full service!

Get The Kids Ready For Kinder And School At Kinder Kaboodle: Loads Of Hot New Stock, 10% disc store-wide

Posted: January 5th, 2009

Today’s post written by Miki

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

There’s loads of new stock in store at Kinder Kaboodle – www.kinderkaboodle.com.au – so if you’re looking at getting the kids ready to head back to childcare, pre-school, kinder or school (if you’re smart you are!) then head on over to check out the new goodies.

Now for those of you whose child is starting pre-school, kinder or even primary school this year, there are a few essentials you’ll need.

The first is a decent backpack, one which is large enough to hold lunch, art projects and picture books, a change of clothes etc, yet small enough for a school-aged child to carry on his or her own. Personally I find it hard to go past the Rush backpacks which are available in a fabulous range of designs, but Tiger Tribe, Mini Rhubarb and Fleurville are also very good options.  You can’t really go wrong with any of the backpacks in this category though!

The next thing you’ll need is a drink bottle.  Look for distinctive designs which will be easily described to a teacher when it’s inevitably gone missing – Alex & Charli, Rush and Tatiri all do great drink bottles.

For lunch boxes, insulated ones can be a good way to go – nobody likes lukewarm yoghurt or soggy sandwiches!  Fleurville Kids do an excellent insulated Lunch Pak (it’s actually large enough to be your all-purpose backpack!) which is much favoured by celebs including Gwyneth Paltrow and Matthew Broderick.  Fridge-To-Go lunch bags are also a great choice. While you’re in this category, have a look at the ingenious 4 My Earth eco-lunch products – such a great idea!

There are also loads of products designed to make short trips away easier, such as the hot new Rush Overnight Bags which are available in loads of designs.  I also love the Tiger Tribe Mix-A-Pix magnetic games (available in ‘Robots & Aliens‘ and ‘Fairytale‘) which will keep the kids entertained for ages on long car or plane trips.

Now just as a final note – this is me getting sidetracked – I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the new Tiger Tribe silhouette mobiles.  What a stunning and incredibly cost-effective way to add a colourful feature to your child’s bedroom!  Whether you hang them above the cot or above the change table (or both) it’s going to look fantastic.

Enter ‘KSF’ in the discount code/coupon section at checkout to receive 10% off all orders at Kinder Kaboodle until 31 January 2009. Also, don’t forget to check out the Sale section at Kinder Kaboodle for markdowns on lots of quality goodies.

Special note: Bernice at Kinder Kaboodle is currently having a short break: orders placed between now and 13 January will be dispatched on 14 January (all orders under 500gms will be sent Express on this date).

1. Tiger Tribe Silhouette Mobile – Vintage Plane, $39.95
2. Bobble Art Strawberry Bobbles, $7.95
3. Fleurville Kids Lunch Pak – Pink/Silver, $36.00

Nappy Bags from Around the Globe: A Buyer’s Guide

Posted: December 29th, 2008

Today’s post written by Nerida

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Following on from my recent post on the stunning range of locally designed baby bags in our midst, I bring you the cream of overseas designers. From the affordable to the POA-only, there’s something luxe for every taste.

Missoni

Missoni is a very cool brand with a very serious price tag. I am not sure many of us could justify almost $1,300 for a nappy bag but hey, it’s nice to look! Plus it is a nice looking bag, particularly if you are a fan of Missoni’s innovative use of colours and patterns. The bag includes a change mat and could easily be converted to a weekend bag once your nappy carrying days are over.

Missoni baby bags are available at Childrensalon.

Baby Beatrix

Dante Beatrix New York dedicates themselves to creating cool, practical ways to transport gear for mums, dads and kids. Their Baby Beatrix tote is a lovely looking bag which comes in pewter metallic and grey/khaki and includes a very nice looking change mat and pouch. The tote is available from Queenbee

BabyMel London

BabyMel London are relatively new on the baby bag scene, launching their first collection in 2007. The bags contain changemats, bottle holders and come in a variety of colours and shapes. Baby Mel have just designed a limited edition for that fabulous UK fashion chain Topshop.

Luckily we can get them locally at Haggus and Stookles.

Ramalama

In addition to making lovely baby carriers, Ramalama also designs some very nice looking nappy bags. In addition to being highly functional, the bags are very classical and made from fine Italian leather.

Ramalama baby bags are available from Urban Baby.

Mia Bossi

On their website Mia Bossi state that their bags combine fashion with motherhood, creating the ultimate hot mama: these bags really are perfect for hot mamas everywhere! If you’re looking for an incognito bag, you would be hard pressed to spot these designs as nappy carriers, particularly the ‘Alisa’ in zebra.

Mia Bossi bags are available from MetroMum.

Fleurville

The Fleurville totes are handy in that they can be carried 3 ways – as a tote, as a messenger bag or attached to a stroller using an ingenious o-ring. The totes look good, are made of eco-friendly materials, and are incredibly practical, with a whole range of features including the usual bottle holder/change mat but also a changing cloth and see through wipes case.

Fleurville totes are available from The Hip Infant.

(Editors note: Fleurville also make the coolest range of bags for kids. Buy them at Kinder Kaboodle).

Hammitt Collection

I found this one recommended on the Vogue forums (thoroughly recommend if you like chatting all things fashion!). The ‘Suzy’ by Hammitt is one cool looking bag available in an incredible range of colours, from basic black to a very bright looking green. The bag includes a matching change mat.

Available online through Hammitt Bags.

Tod’s

One of my favourite sites, Celebrity Baby Blog, has come out with the proclamation that Tod’s new bag is a must have for new mums, and who am I to argue? (Well my bank balance might!! Tod’s bags are POA!) Unfortunately Tod’s bags are not readily available in Australia and I was unable to find the bag online. So if you have a friend overseas and you ask them really nicely, they might just visit a Tod’s store and buy one for you.

Available in-store only at Tod’s.

  1. Diaper Dude Camouflage Dude Bag $128.95 – Check web for stockists
  2. Missoni Nappy Bag £577.40 (approximately $1,300) from Childrensalon
  3. Baby Beatrix Tote $194.95 – Check web for stockists
  4. BabyMel Amanda Nappy Bag $109.95 from Haggus and Stookles
  5. Ramalama Hannah Nappy Bag $450 from Urban Baby
  6. Mia Bossi Alisa Nappy Bag in Gold Zebra $560 from MetroMum
  7. Fleurville Sling Tote Gold $198 from The Hip Infant
  8. Suzy by Hammitt $US550 (approximately $830) from Hammitt Bags
  9. Tod’s Pashmy Baby Bag P.O.A from Tod’s

Melbourne brand Mini Rhubarb has the sweetest range for girls with their Bonnie Bird collection.  Little girls love to collect matching items, so make her day by getting a few pieces from the range.  I’d suggest the backpack and/or library bag, the pencil case and the art smock, and then add in a few little accessories like hair clips to make up her best gift of the year.

I have the KK Magnetic Jungle Theatre Set popped away for my girls for Christmas, and I’m tempted by the sweet 70s style Giddy Giddy fabric pouches for them as well.

Kinder Kaboodle Spring Rainwear Sale: 20% off Penny Scallan, Smelly Welly & More + 15% off Store-wide (including Sale items!)

Posted: October 6th, 2008

Today’s post written by Miki.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

It’s a chilly old spring this year, isn’t it?  I’ve just had a look at a weather forecast chart for Australia, and there’s not one capital city without a little cloud or rain picture hanging over them for today.

That’d be fine – heck, we can use the rain! – but if your kids have grown out of last winter’s raincoats and boots, like mine has, you’ll be a bit stuck because they’re hard to find at this time of year.

Luckily for us Kinder Kaboodle - www.kinderkaboodle.com.au – comes to the rescue.  Not only do they stock ravishing rainwear (Smelly Welly, Western Chief and Penny Scallan among others) but it’s discounted at 20% off!

It’s rare to find top brands like this at less than full price so snap ‘em up while they’re hot!  Be smart and buy for next winter as well while you’re at it.

Kinder Kaboodle always stock the latest and best in gear for kinder, pre-school, childcare and school. There’s currently a heap of new goodies to feast your eyes upon, for example the totally adorable new hair clips and accessories from Giddy Giddy – huge range and really affordable.

The new Charlie & Lola range from the popular ABC TV series and the books by Lauren Child will also be a winner – put some of it away for Christmas and you know there’ll be huge smiles on the day.

I think my absolute favourite at Kinder Kaboodle right now is the brand new Bazoongi Kids Mushroom Play House – check it out!  How fantastic is that?!  Boys and girls (and parents) alike will love this one, it’s a great size for mini tea parties and whispering secrets and giggles while being small enough to pack away compactly when it’s not in use.

If you want a 15% discount storewide – including sale items!! – then grab a copy of Shop4Kids magazine for the magic code inside.  If you can’t get hold of the mag, then watch out for the code, included in tomorrow’s KidStyleFile newsletter (if you haven’t already subscriber, do so here).

Kinder Kaboodle are also noteworthy for their stylish FREE giftwrapping!

Show and Tell: Putting my money where my mouth is

Posted: July 13th, 2008

Post written by Miki
………………………………………………………………………………………………………

One of the occupational hazards of KidStyleFile is that I find myself in temptation’s way all too often: so much cool stuff at such great discounts – how could I not buy at least some of it?

My poor old credit card has taken a hammering over the last few months, but you know what? I don’t regret a single one of my purchases so far.

Because I think that’s a pretty solid endorsement of what I’ve bought, I thought I’d showcase some of my favourites today. (I’ve taken my own photos for this, so I apologise for the slightly dodgy photos; hopefully you’ll get the idea at least ;) )

Threads
I love little boys’ clothes. My son Alex (aged nearly one) has a fairly extensive wardrobe, but we do have a few favourites.

I know I rave on about these at every chance I get, but the American Apparel baby rib karate pants are revered in this household. Comfy, stretchy and still really cool looking, he wears them… well, most days actually, now that I think about it!

I always get ours from Frock You – www.frockyou.com.au – because Kat stocks such a great range of sizes and colours and has such kick-ass sales. There’s also the My Child magazine discount code*(see bottom of page) which gives you 20% off storewide!

I’ve bought a few tops from Frock You too – currently Alex is wearing Smirk tees (I love the Smirk designs, it’s my absolute favourite kids tee brand) and Ej Sikke Lej too.

The other favourite top du jour is his Oobi ‘Bella the Martian’ hoodie, which I bought from Fairy Kisses – www.fairykisses.com.au.

Fairy Kisses have a brilliant price on this one at the moment, check it out! The other great thing about this hoodie is that Angela gave Alex the matching Oobi Timorous Beastie: too cute!

Clothes

Kindy Kamper

The Kindy Kamper – from www.kindykamper.com.au – was another present from Angela (yes, she spoils us rotten). Even though it’s marketed at pre-schoolers it’s actually really great for babies too because it fits into portacots so nicely!

We do a lot of travelling to see our respective families and having the Kindy Kamper has made bedding for Alex a breeze. I just grab the KK and the portacot and that’s it – nothing else needed! The little loops on the bottom of the KK padded base fit over the portacot matress perfectly (they’re adjustable for different sizes of matress too) and the padding in the KK base makes the portacot matress softer too. I can tuck Alex in just like normal, so he’s happy and comfy.

Once we’re home again it’s just as easy. The KK gets flung in the washing machine, then it dries just as well either on the line or in the dryer, and then it’s ready to go all over again.

It’s also Alex’s cot bedding at daycare – no more lost sheets or having to sew name tags on to about eight different items, as the KK covers it all. Couldn’t be easier.

Here’s a photo of the KK set up in my portacot (which is a Phil & Teds T2), and with Alex in it. Please excuse the rather, erm, ‘vibrant’ playroom floor in the background!Kindy Kamper

Bags

My ISOKI petite traveller (from Ekidna Kids – www.ekidnakids.com.au) goes everywhere with me these days, whether I have Alex with me or not. It’s small enough to be easy for me to take around (not much bigger than a clutch really) but big enough to fit everything a mum could need when she’s out running errands.

I’ve just emptied mine out on the desk, and this is what I fit in it:

Two disposable nappies, a travel pack of nappy wipes, a few nappy sacks, a twin-pack of teething rusks, a little box of sultanas, a muesli bar, a bib, my mobile phone, some cash (sadly not very much), a notebook and pen, my keys and all the cards I use on a daily basis – credit card, EFTPOS card, library card etc. And I still have plenty of room for a bottle and my sunglasses etc.

It’s amazing how much fits into such a little bag!

ISOKI petite traveller

Another favourite in my nappy bag collection is my Vanchi Carry All Nappy Bag in choc tudor.

The best price I’ve seen on these is at La Toriana when you use the My Child magazine discount code*(see bottom of page) to take 15% off AND get a free gift.

It’s had a hard life, my Vanchi, but I have to say that it’s so well made that it’s taken all the abuse I’ve thrown at it and not batted an eyelash. Once I brushed the smooshed biscuit off it I realised that it actually still looks like new! I love this nappy bag precisely because it doesn’t look like a nappy bag – perfect!

Vanchi carry all

The other bag that really deserves a mention is the Fleurville kids messenger bag, which hails from from Itty Bitty Yuppy – www.ittybittyyuppy.com.au.

Things I love about this bag (besides its obviously gorgeous looks) are its size; small enough that a pre-schooler can carry it, but big enough that I don’t look silly carrying it either, and the unique PVC-free fabric it’s made from. It feels great (really soft but tough) and it’s such good quality.

It also came with an insulated lunch bag which is very handy for being out and about. This is the bag that goes to daycare with Alex as it fits everything he needs for the day: lunch, nappies, change of clothes, bottle etc. etc.

To finish, a great example of Itty Bitty Yuppy products in action. See the beautiful little girl in the Pink Chicken Sasha Duck Dress – $82.45 $53.59 after 35% discount – (pictured here on the cover, and also inside of, LMNOP – www.lmnop.com.au – magazine)? That’s Kim’s very own daughter Ella!

I had previously thought that maybe the duck dress was more suited to itty bitty girls, but seeing Ella (heading towards 5 years) in the dress has convinced me that my 3.5+ year olds will look just a treat in it. (It’s the Queen’s birthday, so*someone* deserves a present right? ;) )

Also, if you haven’t seen LMNOP mag before, here’s the deal: it’s an Australian online magazine celebrating the most beautiful children’s design products you ever did see. The content is the absolute height of everything cool, and the production values are superlative. There’s no aloofness here though; the whole package just radiates so much genuine warmth: LMNOP really has heart!

LMNOP is released quarterly and is free to download (it’s in Adobe Acrobat PDF format). What I like to do is open it, let it download (takes 5-10 mins depending on your connection), and then save it to my PC for easy repeat viewing. I recommend this, as I guarantee that you’ll find yourself wanting to browse it again and again!

Have a wonderful day, friends, and see you again tomorrow!

Hot-foot it over to cool-kid Itty Bitty Yuppy pronto: 15% off store-wide ends TODAY!

Posted: April 30th, 2008

Well, my infatuation with modern-retro haven Itty Bitty Yuppy – www.ittybittyyuppy.com.au has gone from crush to full-blown love!

I placed an order (an occupational hazard of this job, but I’m not complaining!), and I am well pleased with the results.

Taking full advantage of the 15% discount enter discount code IBY628 at checkout to receive 15% off your purchases – ends TODAY! — I dived on in, and picked up a few thing.

They arrived the next day encased in cool-as Itty Bitty Yuppy calico bags. A very nice touch!

So what did I get?

Behold the beauty!

fleur.gif
I purchased a couple of the Fleurville Kid’s Messenger with bonus lunch bag Green/Pink Ogo $59.95 (or Pink ‘Ogoditsbeautiful’, as I call it!) for when my girls hit pre-kinder later this year, and also Fleurville Kid’s Messenger with bonus lunch bag Chocolate/ Tropical Leaf $59.95, for a lucky little man I know.

These bags are so well designed and constructed. I love that they can be worn as a backpack (straps are concealed in the back pocket when not in use, and fasten with the most easy to use clips I have ever come across; spring loaded wire, not the usual plastic, makes clipping and unclipping effortless!), as a messenger via removable side-straps, or by the top handle.

There are also loads of pockets and compartments, which remove the need to fruitlessly scrabble around in the bag.

They are also made of a new, eco-friendly and kid-friendly toxin-free fabric called GreenLam (TM), which feels quite different to traditional fabrics commonly used for bag manufacture; light and very soft, but strong. Not to mention the fact that they are great to look at too (it just don’t mean a thing if it hasn’t got that zing!)

I also could not resist the Baby Bean Vintage Daywear One-Off Claire Tank Dresses $69.95 on SALE for $45.47.

Here are the two I got (’scuse the dodgy photog). I bought a size up so that they’ll work in multi-layered configurations over winter, and still fit when summer returns to our shores.

Note that each and every Baby Bean Vintage dress is a one-off: Baby Bean only make one dress in each print, so you won’t be able to get these exact prints, but there are lots of lovely other one-offs to choose from.

These dresses are made of a heavier gauge cotton, which adds to their vintage appeal. Love the pocket detailing: great for storing toy lizards, jewels, and lucky pebbles :)

Abe Jones City Park Keyhole Dress $74.95 SALE $48.72
Baby Bean Vintage Daywear One-Off Claire Tank Dress $69.95 SALE $45.47

I am madly in love with these dresses! The Asian styling and colours of the Abe Jones dress are perfect to liven up the winter months, and each and every Baby Bean Vintage dress is a one-off; you won’t find another one the same in the world anywhere, because Baby Bean only make one dress in each print!

Wear these as dresses to start with, and progress them to tops over jeans, as your little one grows. Wear them in winter with long-sleeved tees underneath, for extra warmth and urban style. I just love double duty clothing, and when it looks this good, well, I’m *in*!!
