I have always had a penchant for the designers of Northern Europe. Why is it that they seem to do no wrong in the style stakes? From high end homewares to main stream mugs, there is always a sassiness in Scandinavia. And let’s not forget the colourific choices for kids either. A big trend around at the moment is a nostalgic nod to the old school illustration of the 1950′s and 60′s. I’m loving the work of Sweden based illustrator Ingela Arrhenius at the moment; she has the enviable task of working with a whole host of international companies, designing and illustrating fabrics, stationery, books and clothing.
Apart from the cards and books she is well known for, her latest 2D Character Puzzles are just totally irresistible. Following the highly successful Animal Parade Puzzle, Ingela has created 12 new characters fronted by everyone’s favourite waitress, ‘Sue’ – complete with burger, ketchup and beehive hairdo. You’ll also find weightlifters, sailors and Motown singers; all rubbing shoulders and showing off some major moves.
The puzzles are easily fixed together without the need for scissors or glue. They’re a perfect party gift for anyone over 3, I have some in mind for a couple of adult pals too. Just goes to show, you never really do grow up now do you?!
The Ingela Arrhenius 2D Character Puzzles are available through Hus & Hem.
