Birthdays, christenings, baby showers and the birth of a new baby are joyous occasions that I eagerly anticipate. There’s nothing more special than welcoming a new little person into the world, and I often prepare months in advance. I seek out the finest gift  that my budget can manage; something, that when unwrapped will be loved, used and appreciated. I know it’s not all about the present….but for me the giving is extremely pleasurable.

I’ll let you in on a little secret spot where you can stock up on some of the greatest gifts around: Kids Gift List – www.kidsgiftlist.com.au. Filled to the brim with delights – Quirky – check; Fashionable – check;  Cute and snuggly – check;  functional yet attractive – check; unique – check;  affordable – check – the perfect gift waiting right here for you to snap up!  I have my eye on the Cuddle Cat and M is for Metal book (both featured in Shop 4 Kids magazine) for an upcoming ‘Lil’ Rocker’ birthday party and the Lark Easter Egg Box as a possible treat for my colleagues over the holiday break (they always refuse chocolate, but I’m sure they won’t be able to resist these!).

Another great feature of the Kids Gift List site is that you can create your very own gift list to share with family and friends, which I’m sure will take the frustration of gift selection away from some of the relos who, despite their best intentions, never get quite right.

Now for the biggest celebration of the day – for the next 3 days only until midnight 28 February 2010, the lovely Monique at Kids Gift List is paying it forward and offering all KSF readers a whopping 30% off store-wide – including sale stock reduced by up to 65% (also be sure to check the Sooki Baby category for more sale pieces!): that means you can save up to ***75% off!**** Woo *hoo*! What’s In-Store at Lark: A Day Trip to Daylesford + 50% off Sale Online

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

My annual trip to Victoria this past Christmas was full of sightseeing galore (two zoos in two days!), a trip to what I’m labelling the best ‘free’ playground ever (Woodend), family events and a visit to Lark in the township of Daylesford, Victoria.

You may already be aware of Lark as their lovely products have been featured many times on KidStyleFile. I am a huge fan, so you can imagine my delight when I discovered that Lark had opened their very own store only minutes from my childhood home! As it was the holidays, my whole little family joined me on my trip to check out the store at 4a Duke Street, Daylesford.

My husband was quick to note that the store felt like it was originally a petrol station, which was confirmed by owner Allison. This quirky environ enhances the ambience of the Lark store which is decidedly retro. I was quickly in love. Shelves, and shelves of delights – I just didn’t know where to start. Everywhere I looked there was something to remind me of my own childhood.

Firstly, the Lark handmade products. There is a wealth of gorgeous products to choose from – my eye was drawn to the gorgeous Lambie, so soft and cuddly – and although reminiscent of the toys my grandmother once made for me, much more trendy! They also have an abundance of pretend play toys such as knitted teapots, cups, cakes, vegetable rattles, fruit rattles, and donuts. Feast your eyes on them here.

I also came across My Sister Pat swimwear – perfect for any mother if you ask me, with sizing from 8 to 20! The collection is designed by Margie Dlahunty Spencer and handmade in the loveliest retro and vintage materials. Modelled on the 1950s era, these swimsuits have full back shirring which ensures they are flattering on all figures.

On the shelves I found a Sushi Train set. We are well known at our local Sushi Train, and I know this wooden box of felt and magnetic sushi pieces that can be places of a rounded wooden track would be perfect for the kidlets pretend play sessions.  Isn’t it delightful?

This is a shop for kids – there are no signs saying “don’t touch!”. Both Miss N and Master R loved Lark. The reception children receive when they walk through the door makes them welcome from the very start. Stringed balloons were quickly provided, which kept both kidlets amused whilst I browsed the shelves and Dear Husband chatted with Allison about the building, and when we left each child was gifted with a sweet little goodie bag with papercraft items and a whistle inside.

If you’re in the Daylesford area be sure to stop in at Lark. if you’re not in the area you can visit the online store here. Be sure to check out the sale Allison has running until 12 January 2010: you can save up to 50% off on some delightful gear!

Lark stocks products from Arthur’s Circus, Beci Orpin, Belle & Boo, byGraziela, Clothkits, Darling Clementine, Dumpling Dynasty, Engel, Frankie, I Like, Jurianne Matter, Vintage Ladybird, Lark, Lisa Jones, My Sister Pat, Miller Goodman, MT Tape, Ozowiezo, Paumes Books, Peggy, Rosie Flo’s Colouring Books, Solitaire, Sparrowkids, Sukie, Two Little Boys and Umpen Editions, all which will remind you of your own childhood.

Lark charge $5.95-$9.95 postage Australia wide, and international orders are welcome. Click here for full postage and delivery information.

It’s ever so much easier than fighting your way through crowded shopping centres, and with stores like Paperartzi Boutique – www.paperartziboutique.com.au – you know you’ll be getting the most stylish gifts and outfits around.

Paperartzi Boutique stocks the creme de la creme of childrens brands, including Fred Bare, Oobi, Mamas & Papas, BIG by Fiona Scanlan, Alimrose Designs and dozens more. Drop-dead bargains? Paperartzi has those too, big style: be sure to stop in at the Clearance Section where you’ll find fine designer kids clothing on sale up to 75% off.

Under Our Tree: Edwina’s Christmas List

Posted: December 4th, 2009

Today’s post written by Edwina

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Christmas time at our place is all about the boys. We have 3 gorgeous sons aged 8, 6 and nearly 3, so I am always on the look out for stimulating and fun toys that they will love and I will enjoy looking at.

In an effort to get organised I have been cruising the net looking for cool things to cross off the list.

My ‘nearly 3′ seems to be getting more and more active every day so first thing on my list for him is the truly unique Bilibo. Requiring no batteries and no instructions this is an open-ended toy designed to stimulate the imagination and improve motor skills (read Angela’s review of the Bilibo here).

Also on the list is the Oobi Hopper, perfect for bouncing out all the excess energy after lunch, some Pirates for the bath tub, and because he is currently in love with Spot the Dog, a few new Spot books for bedtime.

Mister 6 seems to be easiest to buy for this time, he loves indoor games and is a natural at making his own imaginary games with toys and Lego. This year I have a theme going on and it is all about Knights, Castles, Legends and Chivalry. Hopefully he will enjoy playing in these worlds and maybe one day he will grow up to be a knight in shining armour himself! My favourite finds are this castle these dragon stencils and knights stickers, and these Schleich knight figurines.

My 8 year old is definitely an outdoor kid – he loves sports – and is very into science: he is currently planning to be an ‘insect scientist’ and have his own ‘insect room’ in his future imaginary mansion.

I was recently chatting to a friend who is a Steiner teacher and she was telling me that at around age 8 they start to teach children construction and building things, which helps them gain confidence in their ability to become more independent. With this in mind I am heading off to the hardware store to pick up a tool box with some real tools and everything he needs to build a billy-cart or a box.

Also for my eldest son is this cute Dumpling Dynasty Explorer Kit, and “Blast Lab” Why Don’t Insects Get Fat?‘ – sure to be a winner based on the title alone -  a fact-book-with-insects written by Richard ‘Hamster’ Hammond from Top Gear Fame.

For my gratification our tree will this year be adorned with some new handmade and fair trade Christmas decorations from Lark, and under it will sit some cool vintage inspired Santa Sack from Cocoon Couture to hold all the loot. And because I’m a kid at heart, I’ve selected Eloise: the Ultimate Edition book just for me. Can’t wait to tear it open on the big day…

1. Oobi Hopper, Paperartzi Boutique – $29.95 $28.95
2. Alex Toys’ Pirates in the Tub, Ten Little Indians – $28.95
3. Spot Bakes a Cake, Fishpond Books – $14.99 $13.95
4. Active People Bilibo, Metro Mum – $39.00
5. Djeco Knights Stickers, Where Did You Get That? – $4.95

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

It’s starting to feel a lot like Christmas. Case in point: over the weekend, my suburb seemed to suddenly (almost magically) light up with dazzling lights in preparation for -  wait for it  – *24* days time!

You too will light up once you see the great offers at Design Child – www.designchild.com.au.

Design Child have just revealed a great selection of Dwell Studio items for your delight this festive season. The Picture Book Collection, just added to the line which is most famous for its inspiring decor, uses images from their kids fashion lines to tantalise your baby’s every sense. With a farm visit over the holidays, I can’t go past mentioning the Touch and Feel Farm Book which I think is a great introduction to some of the animals we will see.

A piece from the Oobi Summer collection is a must have for Christmas. The gorgeous prints, lacy trims and pretty buttons are sure to glam up your Princess for Santa’s photo, and your funky little dude is sure to look super cool in the cowboy inspired shirts.

There is also a fantastic range of sunhats to protect your kidlets from what is sure to be a glaring bright sun these holidays. A firm favourite of mine are the Bridgette Bardot inspired range, which scream retro glam. Oobi have also branched out to include homewares and soft toys, which all have their distinctive Oobi-licious stamp!

Are you still dropping hints to your partner about possible gifts for you this Christmas? Why not leave the computer open to the iI Tutto range, like me? ;) I’m tossing up between the Artisan Mia Nappy Bag and the Nico Berry Nappy Bag – heck, why choose? I’ll take both, thanks, Santa!

Before I move on to Design Child’s piece de resistance, let me quickly mention that the Baby Bonkie range is back in stock. These functional and gorgeous inventions take the guess work out of wrapping newborns, and make wonderful gifts.

And now, what you’ve all been waiting for: for the next 3 days until 4 December 2009, Melissa at Design Child is offering KSF Readers a superb 25% off storewide (excluding sale stock already marked down by up to 50%, and gift vouchers; read full terms and conditions below). ……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Happy Monday indeed: I have just discovered the delightful Button Baby – www.buttonbaby.com.au - online shop and have fallen hard for this beautiful store.

I am thrilled to discover that Button baby stock the Vulli Chan Teether! Now most regular KSF readers would be very familiar with Vulli’s Sophie the Giraffe. Chan Pie Gnon, which comes from the French word ‘champignon’ which means mushroom, is an adorably mushroom shaped soft chew toy.  Like Sophie, all three in the series (Chan, Pie and Gnon) are made from 100% natural rubber derived from the sap of the Heyea Tree. Chan has a nub on the top of his had which is great for teething babies to chew and nibble on. Isn’t he just unique?? A great stocking filler if you ask me! Yep, added to my list!

I also fell in love with the Ada Cot Quilt. I know, I know…Christmas means hot weather. But as I am currently decorating Miss N’s room for her transfer to a ‘big bed’ I find the idea of this 100% cotton patchwork quilt just perfect for the end of her bed.  I’m thinking it’s also a great ‘new arrival’ gift!.

I grew up in Spa Country, Victoria. So I am elated to see Lark products on Button Baby’s site. The gorgeous Lark knit cookies take me back to my own childhood and I am positive they will be received well by a trio of nieces I have who are right into role-playing.  Both soft and washable, these will last beyond one or two tea parties.

Until midnight Monday 16 November 2009 you can take 15% off storewide (*not including specials and postage). Enter code ‘KSF11′ at checkout to redeem. PS If you’re looking for great summer PJs, check out Huckleberry Lane at Button Baby – they’re 25% off!

When Daniela and the team at Baby’s Got Style – www.babysgotstyle.com.au – decide to throw a sale, it’s done with their typical panache and verve. Right now, Baby’s Got Style have marked down over $160,000 worth of stock from absolutely the best brands around, and it’s going at bargain prices!!

The sale has to finish on 17 July, so you only have that long to get in there and snap things up. And these products will go fast – we’re looking at hefty discounts on Oobi Baby, BIG by Fiona Scanlan, Minti, Bonds and Ivy Designs to name but a very few of the brands marked down!

I am especially excited to see that the Belli Skincare range is all at 40% off!  At 36 weeks pregnant, I’ve well and truly reached the ‘Ugh, don’t talk to me about stretchmarks’ stage. The Belli Skincare Stretchmark Minimiser Cream is down from $81.00 to just $48.95, and it seems like a golden opportunity to give myself some much needed pampering. As it’s the only skincare brand that is teratology screened to help guard against birth defects, I feel safe using it.  Belli Skincare isn’t just for mums either – grab the Belli Baby Gift Set at 40% off – in fact, grab several of them! – and pop them away in your present drawer for the next new arrivals.

Have a browse through the Baby’s Got Style newsletter to see what takes your fancy – those of you who subscribe to BGS should have received it – and if you don’t subscribe, why not?  You could win one of two $200 vouchers every month!!!

Today I want to introduce you to the coolest new kid on the block, Little Pinwheel – www.littlepinwheel.com.au - headed up by dynamic Mum of two, Hayley.

Formerly a graphic designer, Hayley has an experienced eye for colour and design; she has a real pulse, and you can feel it in her beautifully designed online store, which is fun, punchy and very very-cool!

Hayley’s flair and expertise effortlessly demonstrates how pieces from the different labels can be mixed, matched, and layered to create a funky, unique look for your kids this winter.

Labels stocked include high-quality, high-credibility pieces from fave Australian baby and kids fashion and accessories designers Polka, mill&mia, Sudo, Three Little Trees, Tiny Mammoth, Itch, Dan300 and Lark, as well as Nature Baby layette from New Zealand, and Sevi toys from Italy. (Keep your eyes peeled for monte&tex, Heavenly Creatures, Chalk n Cheese, and Rittenhouse Kids, coming soon – can’t wait!!)

To celebrate the grand entrance of Little Pinwheel into the market, Hayley is giving all KSF readers 20% off storewide until 30 June 2009. Use the discount code “winterKSF20″ at checkout to redeem. Yay!

I’m already a subscriber, and I can tell you that Hayley’s newsletters are excellent, and filled with loads of ideas and inspiration.

Hayley also has a an ongoing activity happening: every time you shop with Little Pinwheel fill in the “where did you find us” section at checkout with a friends name. Once that person’s name has been recorded 3 times they’ll receive a $50.00 gift voucher to spend at Little Pinwheel. Coolio!

Without further ado, a few snaps of the wonderful goodies waiting for you in-store at Little Pinwheel. Go forth and shop!!

PS Keely and Taj, pictured below, are Hayley’s kids! Friend Oliver also came over to lend a hand with the shoot. How *beautiful* are they??!!! Love them! Want to find out more about Hayley and her gorgeous family? Check out her blog, which will make you feel warm all over :)
