Update: Mamas & Papas Mylo – Arrival Date, Background on the Design and First Street Sighting (with Gwen Stefani, of course!)

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

When we attended the Kind + Jugend trade show back in September this year, we gave you a first glimpse of the remarkable new Mamas & Papas ‘Mylo’ pram/stroller/bassinet car seat/ system.

The result of years of research and development by leading UK bursery brand Mamas & Papas, the Mylo breaks the mould on travel systems, and has received a huge response, with hundreds of enquiries about when it will be available to purchase in Australia.

I am pleased to tell you that it will be arriving in April 2010. I recommending contacting the Australian distributors Childsmart to put your name on the waiting list if you are interested in one; I have a feeling they won’t last long!

To find out more about what motivated the design of this revolutionary multifunction system visit the Mamas & Papas Mylo website (be sure to check the videos demonstrating the product functionality – it really is impressive!) and read this interview with product designer Amanda Scaccheti, just posted on the Mamas & Papas website here, to get the background on what motivated the design.

You can also view a home movie of the Mylo being demonstrated at Kind + Jugend on Youtube here.

The first street sighting of the Mylo was made this week in the UK, with Gwen Stefani seen wheeling son Zuma in North London. Gwen has a long history with Mamas & Papas, she’s also been seen pushing a Mamas & Papas Skate and the limited edition (only 10 made!) Gold Ziko.

Thanks to KSF readers murphymoo, Stroller Mama and Nicola for your contributions :)

Since becoming a mum I have added two new hobbies to my repertoire of interests: kids fashion and competitions; so you can imagine my glee when I came across Babies and Kids – www.babiesandkids.com.au – and discovered their expansive range of children’s fashion labels AND a range of competitions and giveaways!

You too will be rubbing your hands together in anticipation of a number of fabulous deals open to you when you cruise on over to the site- and many of them don’t require a purchase!!

To begin with, Babies and Kids have some gorgeous summer ranges including Minihaha dresses and Woof! tops and boardies; Eternal Creation; Toetum’s new floral range (preorders available); Ohme-Ohmi; Bacche, Bright Bots and Max and Tilly (which are both nearly sold out already!)

I don’t know about you, but for me I just love competitions of any sort – the idea of doing barely anything in order to take home something fabulous is only surpassed by the actual win!

At Babies and Kids you are rewarded just for being a fan! Subscribe to the Babies and Kids newsletter (go to the sign-up box on their homepage) between 19 October and 9 December 2009, and instantly go into the draw to win a Christmas hamper valued at over $1000!

The centrepiece of the prize pack is Patches, the Mamas & Papas Rocking Horse, valued at over $500, which is suitable from three years. Best in Show: Kind + Jugend 2009 Cologne, Germany

Posted: September 23rd, 2009

The Kind + Jugend 2009 trade show was held last week in Cologne, Germany. Kind + Jugend represents the cutting edge of baby and toddler goods globally, with the most prestigious brands in the market exhibiting.

KidStyleFile’s German correspondent Anna attended the show, and today shares with us her Best in Show selection – Angela

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Mamas & Papas – www.mamasandpapas.com

Please see full coverage here.

Ebulobo – www.ebulobo.com

It was my absolute pleasure to meet French toy designer Anna of Ebulobo and her irresistible new line ‘Wood Ours’.

As mother, an educator, and a lover of thoughtful design and the creative process, I was completely captivated by this divine Papa Bear, his little Baby Bear, and the delightful fabric pieces that help to create their story.

Anna explained this captivating range to me with a tale of meaningful connection: Papa Bear is as strong as an oak tree (hence the fabric ‘wooden’ knot which doubles as a pouch for baby on his tummy), and Baby Bear has long arms which help him to attach himself playfully all over his Papa. Papa is carrying a fabric fishing rod, satchel containing fish, and a lovely flower to take home to Mama bear.

There are a number of items in the ‘Wood Ours’ range including a fabric picture book, fabric ball with inner pouch and smaller bear characters.

Ebulobo products are distributed in Australia by: Divisible by Zero Pty Ltd – www.dbz.com.au

Ju-Ju-Be – www.ju-ju-be.com

Imagine that you happen to have a background in engineering and bag design, that your partner is well experienced in the trendy design world an international accessories company… and add to that the knowledge that raising 6 children provides!

Ju-Ju-Be is a Californian bag company that was born from just this scenario. The result is highly functional, edgy bags and accessories made with soul.

Their top selling product is the ‘Be All’ Parent’s Bag. These bags come in a huge range of colours and patterns. Their outer Teflon coating and inner Agion coating means that they are both hardwearing and anti-microbial.

A great deal of industry and parenting experience has been incorporated into these bags. The organizational features include plentiful pockets, mesh pouches, a parent’s pocket, light coloured lining and a change mat with memory foam. These gems are even machine washable!

Ju-Ju-Be can be found in Australia through www.cheekybubs.com.au

TimKid – www.timkid.de

What if I told you that you could have a safe, stylish, space saving place for nappy changing…. and that it can eventually become a child’s fold-away desk?!

No longer just a dream, TimKid created ‘Owo’, the egg-shaped changing table when they failed to find one similar for their own growing family.

Made from Birch Plywood, the Owo and various other furniture items from Tim Kid, are exclusively produced in Germany, and the quality is exceptional.

TimKid is not currently available in Australia. We’ll keep you posted on any developments.

Dot Pot – www.dotbaby.eu

If you are at the same stage of parenting as I am – then you can see toilet training in your not-too-distant future!

One product I defintely want in my arsenal is the Belgian ‘Dot Pot’. This product is a baby itself, having only been launched 2 weeks ago.

Not only is it aesthetically as pleasing as a potty might be, it is also three products in one. At first a potty (with hygienic flip handle for parents), it then graduates with your child to become a toilet minimiser seat and a handy step.

I love that this means I will be saving on storage space, adding less items of plastic to the planet, and only shopping once for three items! Even better – the product is made from recycled materials with the ability to be recycled itself in the future.

Dot Pot is not currently available in Australia. We’ll keep you posted on any developments.

Beaba – www.beaba.com

French company BEABA have marked their 2010 range with the use of beautiful soft, muted colours and simple graphics. They are well known in France for their stylish and practical solutions to daily life with babies and toddlers.

One particular item, which caught my eye, was the Folding Baby Bath. It is designed for both daily use and travel and folds away to nothing! When assembled it is large enough for a bath recliner and it has a handy integrated plug.

Beaba is not currently available in Australia. We’ll keep you posted on any developments.

Krooom – www.krooom.com

Environmentally conscious products with gorgeous designs, Krooom (yes, that three ‘o’s) continues to provide quality children’s furniture made from laminated recycled cardboard. Don’t be put-off by the fact that it is cardboard, their children’s stools even withstood my weary pregnant bod!

New additions to the collection are a castle and house. Both are two-stories, beautifully illustrated and can also be used as bookshelves.

Krooom products are available in Australia through Room to Grow. Check for stockists here.

ella & otto – www.ellaandotto.com

Miki brought us the first news of Ella & Otto in July from the Bubble London Tradeshow, and I have been enamoured ever since. It was a joy to meet the Ella & Otto team and view their new organic collection, which oozes Scandinavian charm with its singature Moose motif.

You can purchase Ella & Otto products in Australia from The Hip Infant – www.thehipinfant.com.au.

Baby Bumex – www.bumex.ru

Baby Bumex is a Russian company found on the boarder of Finland. They are specialists in creating natural birch veneer and plywood. Recently they have branched into creating children’s furniture. Each piece comes flat-packed and most assemble without nails or glue.

In particular, I couldn’t walk past the children’s rocking chair. What a divine combination of old-world style and modern design…. All in a puzzle chair – I want one!

Baby Bumex is not currently available in Australia. We’ll keep you posted on any developments.

Kind + Jugend, Germany 2009: Mamas & Papas Steal the Show – Mylo, Urbo, Astro + more

Posted: September 22nd, 2009

The Kind + Jugend trade show was held last week in Cologne, Germany. Kind + Jugend represents the cutting edge of baby and toddler goods globally, with the most prestigious brands in the market exhibiting.

KidStyleFile’s German correspondent Anna attended the show, and received an exclusive viewing of the new Mamas & Papas products which were unveiled at the show within their closed exhibition space. Read on to discover the innovative new Mamas & Papas products coming to market soon – Angela

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Kicking off my reportage from Kind + Jugend in Colone is the mega-star of the show, Mamas & Papas.

Mamas & Papas started as an Italian family business, has grown to become the number one nursery brand in the UK, and is now set to take on the world, having invested in a huge amount of research and development over the past few years, the impressive results of which were unveiled at Kind + Jugend.

First cab off the rank, Mylo: a remarkable product that incorporates the functionality of a pram, stroller, bassinet, car-seat travel system in a single package.

Mylo is sleek, inspired, and inspiring: as a convertible travel system concept it allows compatible car-seats to slot in; add the stand, and it converts the bassinet to an “in house” baby bed. You can also convert the stroller seat can to create a safe stationary seat.

This unique stroller is effortless to steer, offers forward or backward facing attachments and has a remarkable push-button snap-fold feature for quick and easy dismantling or assembly.

An example of the detail in the design of this product is that the pram apron simply pops in and out of position using a serious of magnets – no fiddly zips or noisy Velcro. The Mylo is stylish and highly sophisticated, offering exceptional functionality. A truly superlative product.

Not to be overlooked, is the industrial-styled ‘Urbo’ stroller. This stroller is a light, yet indestructible, hard seat stroller that is approved for use from birth. The Urbo is also able to be adapted to incorporate travel systems and has the option of both forward or rear facing components.

Along with these two spectacular items, Mamas & Papas have also developed a hierarchy of five stroller buggies – the TRiP, TReK, ToUR, CRUiSE and VoYAGE – each one subtly differing from the next in order for you to select a buggy that truly fits your lifestyle.

Mamas & Papas have also developed the ‘Magic Astro Cradle’ rocker, a product which relieves parents while offering a stimulating and safe environment for babies from birth to 6 months.

Despite first appearances the Mamas & Papas Astro Cradle is far from an everyday rocker: it is an ultimate entertainment system for little babies. The cosy space of the Astro Cradle incorporates an interactive light and sound show, soothing vibration or bounce action and interchangeable ‘magic cards’ which provide a variety of songs and sound bursts in various themes. Prefer your own tunes? No proble, the Astro Cradle features MP3 player compatibility.

The investment that Mamas & Papas have made has certainly paid off: all products are unique and are executed to the same extraordinary levels of research, design and quality. And there is more to come: Mamas & Papas plan to spend 20 million UK pounds in product development over the next 5 years as well as expanding their retail presence with new brand stores and widening their distrubution chain.

Mamas and Papas are distributed in Australia through Childsmart – www.childsmart.com.au – check regularly for news on new product arrivals – and are stocked through online and bricks-and-mortar baby and kids stores nationally: click here for stockist details.
