Feel The Magic at The Fairy Jardin: Up To 85% off Designer Baby & Kids Fashion for KSF Readers

Posted: March 12th, 2010

Today’s post written by Miki

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Children have such a special connection with gardens.  I love watching my son wander around our garden – I swear he glows with happiness during the time he spends out there, and I know the same is true of all children.  Then add in the element of magic which children always revel in, and the result is a whole new dimension of wonder and excitement.  This is something that Sally at The Fairy Jardin – www.fairyjardin.com.au – knows very well, given the name she chose for her online boutique (jardin is French for ‘garden’).

The Fairy Jardin is even more magical at the moment because they’re holding a huge end of season sale with up to 75% off brands such as Baobab, Bebe, Koby, Eternal Creation, Gaia Organic Cotton and lots more. Everything in the Last Chance and Summer categories is between 30%-60% off, PLUS KidStyleFile readers receive an extra 10% off everything in the aformentioned categories, meaning the potential discounts come in at up to 85%. *Woah!*  The magic code to enter at checkout is ‘KSFsummer‘ and it expires 19 March 2010.

This discount is only applicable on stock within the Last Chance and Summer categories, and it is not applicable with any other offer.

There some amazing bargains on offer here. I was happy to note that there are some winter items on offer, which is great news as the temperatures start to drop. I also just have to mention the Baobab Green Tuille Skirt (below, #1) which is not only less than half price and would be beloved of any little girl out there, but is also the perfect piece for St Patrick’s Day next week. (Kiss Me, I’m Irish indeed!)

I had fun collating an outfit for my eldest son which is pictured below (nos. 2, 3, & 6).  The MicroClothing Koi tee is eye catching and funky, and the addition of Roll Up Jeans by Freshbaked (such a bargain at over 60% off!) and a sharp little Eternal Creation waistcoat creates the kind of outfit I just love seeing on little boys.

Other pieces that I fell in love with: the simply adorable Ruby Red Audrey Dress by The Emperor’s Laundry, the Kate Quinn Organics Feather Maxi Dress and the super-cool pre-walker shoes by All About Heidi, which are manufactured using a single piece of leather and feature and adjustable tie at the front. Too cool!

What Will You Find in the Garden Today? A Magical $10 off New Items at The Fairy Jardin

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

My husband, who dabbles in a lot of things, including a little French, remarked “What a pretty name” as he peeked over my shoulder as I was strolling through the pages of The Fairy Jardin -www.fairyjardin.com.au – and I have to agree with him!

Jardin (pronounced jar-dan) means garden in French, and earlier in the year when the site changed its name from Fairy Kisses, it was done to reflect the carefee and spirited lives fairies live out down in the bottom of the garden.  This delightful site really is as beautiful as a much loved garden – with clothes, books, toys that have a special touch of magic about them.

First stop for a little magic is the Fairy Garden Page - a whole section of the site dedicated to fairies!  You will discover books, wands, wings and for something special, check out the range of fairy outfits from fair trade brand Piccalilly.

You will find a lovley range of organic and designer label clothing at The Fairy Garden including the new range from Kate Quinn Organics.  Ohh the new ‘Feathers’ and ‘Sundrise’ dresses are simply heavenly, you’ll see what I mean as you check some pics below!

Another popular label stocked by The Fairy Jardin is Bebe by Minihaha.  If you have a wee little girl, check out the Elle print woven frill sleeve dress in sizes 000-2 for a super sweet little summer dress.  Or the short sleeve graphic tee is a striking tee for your little man this summer.  Bebe stock is still arriving so you can pre-order at The Fairy Jardin by shooting through a quick email.

AS the weeks creep by, Christmas is always on my mind, so I can’t help but think the Japanese Kaleidoscope would make a great stocking filler, and the Dumpling Dynasty Explorer Kit looks like a top gift for a certain little man in our world!

Once you’ve strolled through this garden of delights, the magic continues for KidStyleFile Readers: until 14 November 2009 all KSF readers are being offered a bit of The Fairy Jardin magic in the form of $10 off everything listed in the “NEW” items category. The code to enter at checkout to redeem this offer is KSFNOV09. Enjoy your wander through the garden! (Note that this code can be used for your pre-orders of Bebe but is not to be use in conjunction with any other offer).

A. Piccalilly pink Rainbow fairy dress with wings $47.95
B. “Grow It, Eat It”: gardening projects & recipes $29.95
C. Japanese Kaleidoscope $11.50
D. Bebe Elle print woven frill sleeve dress $39.90

Fair Trade Fortnight – Change the World, One Purchase at a Time

Posted: May 4th, 2009

Today’s post written by Miki

………………………………………………………………………………………………

Fair Trade Fortnight started yesterday, and the next couple of weeks will give us us even more reason than usual to contemplate where our purchases are coming from.

To not think about this aspect when buying an item – any item – is the equivalent of a child assuming that milk comes from the supermarket shelf as opposed to a cow.  Everything we buy is made, produced or handled by people somewhere in the world, and many of those people are appallingly exploited and work in conditions which would horrify us if only we could see them.

Luckily, the Fair Trade movement works to give people like this fair treatment, by paying a ‘fair price’ for their goods or services, and by monitoring their social and working conditions.

As the FairTrade.com.au website explains:
“Fair Trade is about giving disadvantaged people power: by paying producers and workers fair prices for their work, by helping them gain the skills and knowledge they need to develop their businesses and to operate in the global economy, and by challenging unfair trading practices. It is about providing fair go, not charity.”

There are plenty of easy ways for us to support the Fair Trade movement.  I now buy only Fair Trade coffee, for example; it’s on the supermarket shelves and I’m more than happy to pay an extra dollar or two to make a difference to people’s lives.  And Ange and I can both testify that Fair Trade chocolate is absolutely delicious ;)

It’s easy to outfit your kids with Fair Trade clothes and gear too, and it’s never too early to start teaching them about social responsibility.  Check out some of these gorgeous examples, and click on the links below the images to go to some wonderful stores selling Fair Trade kids fashions and toys.

1. Lark Designs Knitted Fleur Tortoise, $55.00 from Lark Designs
2. Purebaby Knitted Dress, $59.95 from Purebaby
(NB: Purebaby clothes are not officially Fair Trade, but they are registered with Made-By which works to similar principles)
3. Rock Babies Salt Crystal Lamp,
$19.95 $18.00 from Anklebiters Duds
4. Eternal Creation Overalls, $59.95 from Eternal Creation
5. Fire Engine Red Boots, $39.95 from Skeanie
6. Wooden Fruit Basket, $21.95 from Mudd Kids
7. Romantic Ballerina Dress by Piccalilly, $46.95 from Generation Wonder
8 Lion & Friends Finger Puppets, NZD$19.00 from Finger Puppet Heaven
(this is a New Zealand site, but they post cheaply to Australia and the exchange rate is on your side!)

Please check individual sites for postage details, and as always, check the KidStyleFile ‘All Current Deals’ page to ensure you’re getting the most bang for your buck!

Generation Wonder – www.generationwonder.com is one of my favourite online children’s boutique. Filled with a unique selection of clothing, toys, books, bedding and decor for kids, proprietor Mihiri chooses all products for their organic, fair trade or earth friendly qualities, as well as their beautiful design.

Generation Wonder stock an amazing range of brands, including Kidsonroof, Barefoot, Zid Zid Kids, Fleurville, Thermos, Crocodile Creek, Craft Aid Mauritius, Essential Angel, Taylor and Khoo, Ethica Accessories,  Global Fund for Children, Global Mamas, Kindred Magazine, Lanka Kade, OBON, Organic Bubs, Papoose, Plato Puzzles, Remarkable UK, Sisters of Good Shepherd, Third World Craft Nepal, Tiny Revolutionary, Turtlegreen, Whole Child Series, and Blessed Earth. Hot Tip: To locate all the brands on the Generation Wonder site, use the site map.

One of the most lovely things about Gen W is that they take the time to tell you the story behind the products, which is especially nice because you can then pass the story on to the lucky recipient of your purchases. It’s a feel-good factor from start to finish!

New to Generation Wonder is gorgeous UK brand Piccalilly. In addition to Piccalilly’s gorgeous organic cotton baby and kids basics, you have to check out the Ballerina Dress. Available in pink and red, these dresses are made by a small family run business in Kuta, have hand stitched beading, come in sizes from 3 – 8 and are perfect for inspiring the next dancing queen.

Piccalilly also produce some gorgeous bedding (organic cotton and fair trade) that has been made free from harmful chemicals and for children with sensitive skin or excema these would be ideal. The best thing is Generation Wonder have some adorable new designs just in that range in price from $29.99 – $39.99.

I have to admit I was stuck in the decor and toys section at Generation Wonder for quite some time. It is hard to decide what too choose, it’s all so good! Luckily, every Monday there is a new Gift Set of the Week, which makes life a bit easier for indecisive folks like me. Mihiri, personally selects a gift combo and always 20% off the regular price (for one week only), so be sure to check in on Monday for the latest deals. This is a great way to stock the present cupboard.

Generation Wonder have also added some new ‘departments’ since we last visited them: browse Imagine and Create, Décor, and Music in Me, as well as the Bedding section to make lots of new and fabulous discoveries.

The Fairy Jardin Organic & Fair Trade Bonanza: 15% discount, Gift with Purchase + bonus competition entries for KSF readers

Posted: September 16th, 2008

If organic cotton had been on the scene when my babes were small I would have bought it in truckloads – it just doesn’t seem right to put anything but the purest fabrics next to a newborns perfect, delicate skin. In addition to it’s natural properties, organic cotton feels just so darned good. I honestly don’t know how they make it sooo soft, but this tactile quality is quite marked in organic vs non-organic cotton.

Fair Trade production ensures that workers manufacturing products are paid a fair wage for their toil. It’s hard to believe that it could be any other way, but the sad truth is out there: exploitation is real. Buying Fair Trade products sends a message that we respect the rights of workers, wherever they may live, and that we’re prepared to put our money where our mouths are, and support the cause.

There’s no better feeling than buying something gorgeous, with the knowledge that the product I am taking home has been produced in an ethical way. Add to that a mode of manufacture that avoids pesticides and the use of other chemical nasties, and I am well and truly sold!

The utterly delectable The Fairy Jardin – www.fairyjardin.com.au – is having a Organic & Fair Trade Bonanza to showcase the fine products they are stocking in these categories.

Purchase from the following brands: Piccalilly UK, a leader in organic and fair trade clothing, Kate Quinn Organics from the USA, Little Blue Dog, BabyLegs Organic range, Eternal Creation fair trade fashion (0-8 years; great for parents of older kids), Gaia Organic Cotton clothing for 0-4 year olds (lots more stock still to come on that front, so keep an eye out!), and all natural skincare from Gaia Natural Baby, Little Joey Organics and Billie Goat Soap, and you’re eligible for a special treat*.

Sally at The Fairy Jardin will reward you for your commitment to ethical and organic products, by gifting you a free natural skincare product with every purchase of fairtrade and/or organic clothing until October 17. In addition, you will automatically go into the running to win a $100.00 gift voucher for organic products.

Mention ‘KSF’ in the comments box at checkout, to claim your Gift with Purchase, and to receive a second entry into the gift voucher prize draw (‘cos KidStyleFile readers are twice as special, after all :) )

*Please note that only purchases from these brands get you the free gift. If you purchase other brands, sorry, no gift, but you can get a 15% discount at The Fairy Jardin instead of (and *as well as*, if you buy organic/fairtrade products) the free goodies: pick yourself up a copy of the latest Shop4 Kids magazine to access the special discount code.

UK Designers – The Best of the Brits, and where to get them Down Under

Posted: August 2nd, 2008

Post written by Miki
………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Following on from last week’s US Designers special feature, this week we’re heading across the Atlantic to the United Kingdom.

The UK has long been a source of leading children’s- wear and equipment. Iconic names such as Silver Cross prams instantly bring to mind classic chic, perfectly groomed nannies or the more modern ‘yummy mummies’ parading through Hyde Park with their beautifully dressed offspring on full display.

Hey, if you have a baby you’re proud of and gorgeous gear for him or her, why not show them off?

That concept shows in UK designers products – they’re always gorgeous to look at (not to mention touch) and practical to boot. And now, thanks to some of Australia’s top children’s-wear online boutiques, we can access the best of British design from the comfort of our living rooms.

So get comfy and have a look at some of my picks for the week!

The Fairy Jardin

The Fairy Jardin – www.thefairyjardin.com.au – stock the cutest little leather babyshoes from Starchild. I’m sure you’ve seen these before, they’re just so sweet! For the traditionalists among us there is Nenuphar London: timeless designs with a hint of their French heritage. Any child couldn’t help but look as though butter wouldn’t melt in their mouth wearing these clothes! They’re especially perfect for special occasions.

If you prefer organic cotton on your precious little one’s skin, there are two designers I would bring to your attention: Piccalilly Organics and Little Blue dog. Both have loads of adorable designs and are so gentle on babies’ skin!

Fairy Kisses images

Starchild ballerina shoes in blue, $42.95
Piccalilly red organic hoodie, $39.95
Little Blue Dog signature baseball top
, $38.95
Little Blue Dog cat romper, $38.95
Nenuphar London puff sleeve dress, $84.95
Starchild gingham Jolly Roger shoes, $39.95

Urban Child

Another great place to stock up on UK designers is Urban Child – www.urbanchild.com.au. Here you can find simply beautiful baby clothes, blankets and accessories from AraVore Babies. Exclusively imported from London, all organic and knitted from exquisitely soft ‘Fair Trade’ cotton and merino wool, they are the most wonderful baby presents, especially for a winter baby. It’s the kind of gift that will become a family heirloom!

Urban Child also have the ever-popular Albetta (I’m in love with Albetta babygrows; could they get any cuter?) and a selection of WOW toys – these toys are destined to be come favourites with everyone, you can’t go wrong with them.

Urban Child uk

WOW toys ‘Motorbike Max’, $24.95
AraVore Babies organic vintage matinee coat, $105.00
Albetta Flying Machines babygrow, $42.00 $21.95 (great price!!)
AraVore Babies pink stripe jumper
, $82.00
Albetta booties -blue velvet gingham, $24.95 $9.95 (even greater price!!)

Ekidna Kids

One of my all-time favourite stuffed toy brands is ‘Mamas & Papas‘ from the UK. These knitted and fleece animals are really lovely – just a bit quirky, a bit whimsical and bound to be adored.

The fleece ones can just be flung in the washing machine and the knitted ones are easy enough to spot clean. I know this because I got tomato sauce on my friend’s knitted puppy a couple of months ago – don’t ask – and was totally mortified until I realised the stain had come right out! (Promise not to tell her please ;) )

My favourite place to get these in Australia is Ekidna Kids – www.ekidnakids.com.au.

Ekidna Kids images

M&P Colour Bunch soft toy – Tuli, $21.95
M&P Knitted lamb gift toy, $39.95
M&P Knitted puppy gift toy, $39.95
M&P Kitted bear gift toy, $39.95
M&P Colour Bunch soft toy – Baru, $21.95

Kids Gift List
Two fabulous UK designers at Kids Gift List – www.kidsgiftlist.com.au. The first is Sparrowkids, designers of stunning ‘DIY’ craft kits for kids. All the materials are Fair Trade (you can have very thought-provoking discussions with the kids over this topic) and they’re great quality. Craft projects aren’t just for the girls. Show me the primary school boy who could resist the pencilcase rocket!

The other designer is Trunki, which is only the best luggage for kids in the whole wide world. Seriously, who could ever go past the funky little ride-on suitcases with horns?

Sized to be carry-on baggage compliant, light enough for parents to carry comfortably over their shoulder and robust enough for not just one but two preschoolers to ride, these little suitcases are too cool.

Perfect for 3-6 year olds, and they are just as good for overnight stays at the grandparents’ place as international jetsetting!
