The media has an interesting way of pigeonholing mothers these days. For some reason, they have only two categories: stay at home mums and working mums. Us mothers, of course, know that there is a whole spectrum of mother types, and we can shift between them at any one time: “too busy with the kids to get out of pyjamas” mummy can quickly move to “dressed to the nines in a killer outfit” mummy if given the time and need; or “creative in the kitchen with a wooden spoon” mummy can be quickly overcome with watching an episode of Masterchef and become “whoops” mummy as she removes the slightly overcooked dinner from the oven. Whatever mummy type you are today is not necessarily the mummy type you will be tomorrow. Gosh we are an adaptable lot!
