The Australian Toy, Hobby and Nursery Fair is held in Melbourne annually. The event brings together hundreds of toy makers and distributors who present their wares to industry buyers, who in turn make their choices and place their orders so we can buy them in stores.
The Australian Toy Fair presents 15 awards across a range of categories to those toys considered the best in their field. The focus was on commercial toys as opposed to niche and boutique providers. Winners this year include 2010 Toy of the Year for Girls, Zhu Zhu Pets (from $24.95 at Toy Madness), interactive battery powered guinea pigs, accompanied by a range of add-on play components and outfits; 2010 Toy of the Year – Boys, and overall 2010 Toy of the Year winner, Paper Jamz ($54.95 from dStore), a highly innovative thin paper card, string-less guitar that sounds and plays just like a real one; and 2010 Toy of the Year – Craft/Activity, Yummy Dough ($15.99 at Online Toys Australia) an edible play dough that will bring peace of mind to parents of toddlers everywhere.
Familiar brand names including Thomas the Tank Engine, LEGO and Disney rubbed shoulders with several newcomers. For the full list of winners click here.
