Christmas 2011: Top 20 Stocking Stuffers {Under $10}

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

When Angela and I first started discussing a ‘Stocking Stuffers Under $10′ post, I have to admit I was doubtful. “But Ange,” I said, “What if I can’t find twenty online products of KidStyleFile-worthy quality, costing less than ten bucks each?”  Fortunately Angela had more faith than I did and sent me off to do some research.  Aren’t I glad she did!  There are so many small-but-quality products out there even at the very lowest ends of the price scale, which is exactly what we all need with Christmas stockings to stuff.  In the end my main difficulty was deciding what to leave out of the top twenty!

Everything you see below is less than $10, and a good portion of it is less than $5. I’ve divided it into categories for babies, boys and girls, but it probably goes without saying that those are only very rough guidelines and that most products have a certain amount of crossover (although I’m not sure how my boys would react if I put hair accessories in their stockings – hey, maybe they’d love them).

This really is only a sample of the products available once you start looking, so consider this post a jumping-off point and start exploring. I must give Where Did You Get That? a special mention for their huge Stocking Stuffers category too; it has fourteen pages of the kinds of things just perfect for stockings.

So get to it, go stuff those stockings – if you want to follow my family’s tradition, pop a Terry’s Chocolate Orange in the toe… yummmmm.

………………………………………………………………………………………………

My two year old has recently been going through a new phase: monsters.

He’s obsessed with all things monster, whether it be playing ‘scary monsters’ (it involves jumping out at me from behind doors and shouting ‘RAAAAH!’ at the top of his scary little voice), reading books about them (Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak $19.99 $17.37, and The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson $19.99 $16.97, are his top picks), or wearing clothes featuring monsters.  There are also monster beanbags, monster backpacks, monster dinnerware, monster swimwear and monster games to be discovered.

So in his honour, today I’ve done a round-up of our favourite monster themed gear.  See the links below for where to buy, and enjoy!  RAAAAAH!

Baby’s Got Festive Style – Up to 40% off in the Sale Warehouse, New Miatom, Little Horn & BIG by Fiona + Win a $200 Voucher *Every* Week

Posted: December 7th, 2009

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Okay people, we’re a week into December now, and that means it’s crunch time.  Shopping centres are manic, department stores are packed to the gills (and don’t even get me started on the girls who squirt perfume at me as I try to get past them), toy stores are full of frazzled mums and screaming children, and just to get to these places you have to spend 45 minutes vying for a parking space.

No thank you very much!  Instead of putting myself through all that, I’m doing all my shopping online this Christmas and where better to start than the iconic Baby’s Got Style – www.babysgotstyle.com.au.

BGS have one of the largest and most stylish selections of childrenswear, accessories, toys and gifts online in Australia, which means it’s a perfect place to do your Christmas shopping. At any given time there are always loads of new products to browse through which makes it a wonderful online destination. When you add in the stylish packaging and next day delivery, it’s no wonder the site is so beloved of parents everywhere.

At the moment I’m very taken with the new range of tees from Miatom and Little Horn, with hip options for boys and girls. BIG by Fiona Scanlan also have some pretty summer tops for girls with a striking rosette feature.

I am also impressed with the new range of ‘eating out’ accessories from Oopsie, who have released insulated lunch boxes, bottle holders and a very useful multi bag.  What I particularly like about the Oopsie range is how they’ve taken two prints which tend to be fairly gender specific – vespa scooters and birds – and reversed the colours (red vespas and blue birds, rather than the more typical vice versa), making them unique and stylishly unisex. Inspired!

Now what about Christmas stocking stuffers?  Absolutely sorted here, with Giddy Giddy hair clips, wooden board books, a stylish bib or two, or how about an extremely funky Alex & Charli drink bottle?  Personally I’ve just placed an order for the Alimrose Handsqueeker and Bib, both in the soldier design, for my three month old’s stocking and can’t wait to receive them!

In addition to all the fabulous new stock in store you can scoop up some great bargains at up to 40% off in the Baby’s Got Style Sale warehouse. Click here for reductions for babies, and here for and kids pieces. Also, make absolutely sure you’re signed up to the Baby’s Got Style newsletter, as every week they give away a $200 gift voucher to a lucky subscriber! Wow!

1. Giddy Giddy Hair Clips, $9.95ea
2. Tees: Miatom Guitar Tee, $27.95; Little Horn ‘Donkey Kicks’ Tee, $39.95
3. Oopsie ‘Food On The Go’ Accessories, from $20.95

5. Wooden Picture Book – Fruit, $4.95

KidStyleFile Special Feature: Step Up To The Plate – Gorgeous Dinnerware For Kids

Posted: February 2nd, 2009

Today’s post written by Miki

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Dinner time is a funny thing with very young children, isn’t it?  It can be an absolute delight with giggles and stories, gobbling down delicious food – or it can be one of those times where the food hits the wall and you want to tear your hair out.

I can’t guarantee that any of the fabulous plates, bowls and cutlery below will fix that problem, but surely anything that distracts the kids is a good thing!  And this crockery is all so gorgeous that it will make the most hastily thrown together meal look like it came from a Michelin-starred kitchen.

The first collection here is for babies and young toddlers, right from when they are starting solids to when they are learning to feed themselves with a spoon and fork.  Look for simple, eye-catching designs and nothing that’s too hard to clean!  Trust me, you’ll end up with mashed pumpkin everywhere…

These are some of my faves:

1. Babymoov HIPPO Childrens Cup, $23.95  $19.16; Babymoov HIPPO Childrens Bowl & Lid, $23.95  $19.16; Babymoov HIPPO Plate, Lid & Spoon, $28.00  $22.40; all at Metro Mum
2. Boon Catch Bowl, $14.95; Boon Benders Adaptable Utensils, $9.95; both at Bubba Funk
3. Airfork One, $15.95 from Baby’s Got Style
4. Annabel Karmel Large Bowl Set, $18.50 from Baby’s Got Style
5. Funny Duck Plate, $7.50; Funny Frog Plate, $7.50; both from Baby’s Got Style

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Next we come to older toddlers and pre-schoolers, and even young school-aged kids, who are learning to use a knife and fork and enjoy eating ‘adult’ food.  Keep an eye out for tough, strong products, and if they look great then all the better!  Here are some of the best:

1. Boon Modware Toddler Utensils, $9.95; Boon Groovy Interlocking Plate & Bowl Set, $24.95; both from Bubba Funk
2. Dwink Box in Blue and Orange, $9.95  $8.95 each; from Ekidna Kids
3. Mother Hen Spotty Three Piece Meal Set, $16.95; from Chic Kids
4. Tommee Tippee Snack ‘n’ Straw Cup in Blue, Pink and Yellow, $13.95 each; from Baby’s Got Style

5. Mother Hen Rainbow Cutlery Set, $11.50; from Chic Kids
6. Assorted French Bull Plates & Cups, from $9.95 at The Hip Infant

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Last of all I wanted to show you some gift sets.  I recommend always having a funky dinner set in the present drawer as they make great gifts!  Also consider giving one to your kid/s as a reward for special achievements – learning to use a knife and fork correctly, for example, or mastering dinner table manners (and if you achieve this one, tell me how!).  Each mealtime with the special new dinner set will be a reminder of the child’s achievement and will make them feel special all over again!

1. Go Home Food Face Meal Set, $19.95; and Go Home Food Face Meal Set – Fruits & Veges, $19.95; both from My Messy Room
2. Monsieur & Madame Zio Six Piece Melamine Dinner Sets
, $49.95 per set; from Urban Baby
3. Crocodile Creek Garden Meal Gift Set, and Crocodile Creek Dinosaur Meal Gift Set, both $39.95 from Chic Kids
4. Mini Rhubarb Sailor Sam Three Piece Dinner Set, $19.95; and Sailor Sam Cutlery, $12.95; and Mini Rhubarb Annie Apple Three Piece Dinner Set, $19.95 and Annie Apple Cutlery, $12.95; all from The Infant Boutique

I’d love to be able to show you aaaaalll my favourites but that could take several pages.  Here are a few more options for you that deserve a mention:

  • Shop Until currently have cat-themed meal set from French Bull on sale reduced from $39.95 to just $15.00. Bar-gain!!

  • Urban Baby for their amazing selection of cutlery – no, seriously! Check out their range!!
  • IKEA, who have the coolest and cheapest feeding accessories around (plus I can’t recommend their Antilop highchair highly enough!)

Please check individual sites for shipping details.  Also check the KidStyleFile ‘All Current Deals’ page to see if you qualify for any special discounts at the stores above.
