Channelling the Tween Spirit of Eeni Meeni Miini Moh: e3M Launches *Today*!

Posted: March 16th, 2010

Today’s post written by Anna

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

With a six year old boy (with Go-Go Gadget length limbs!) I am quickly realising that dressing him in the coming months and years could provide me with some challenges. He is outgrowing many of my favourite children’s brands so I am turning my eyes towards labels that provide a more extensive range of sizes to help keep him dressed (and me happy on the style front!)

So I am personally very excited to be giving a big shout out to all KSF parents on the same page as me. Today KidStyleFile brings you fantastic news: Eeni Meeni Miini Moh – www.eenimeeni.com is launching e3M a fantastic new and edgy label available from size 2-12. Hooray! Please go right ahead and do your happy dance!

Does any of the following describe your tween?…individual, positive, energetic, adventurous, streetwise and confident.  All of the above?! Yes?!  Then e3M may just be what you have been waiting for – for it has been designed with your savvy growing and independent person in mind !

Launching this autumn/winter season there is a very rich selection of colours across the entire range for both boys and girls. Blackberry, mulberry, cafe – not only do they sound delicious, they look stunning too! Silver is one of my favourite colours for girls and boys, so I am pleased to say it features as a prominent print colour in in this range for e3M.

There are some fantastic winter pieces, all designed to work together, and layered for a more ‘grown’ up, grungy style for your older child.  Plus if you have a strong willed, ‘I’ll dress myself ‘ kind of toddler:  buying from the e3M range you can rest assured, that whatever they choose, will match together. Phew!  My two most favourite pieces are the ’shake-it’ corduroy skirt with braces for girls and for boys it’s the ripped pocket hoodie jacket. There is so much to appreciate about this range, you simply must check it out for yourself!

This debut collection as well as the eeni meeni miini moh collection for 0-5 year olds is now in stores and at the EMMM online store.  While you are there, make sure you Sign up online to become a VIP. As a VIP hear first about great secret offers, competitions +a special birthday treat for your child (and you!): a $10 eeni meeni miini moh/e3M voucher.

Check out the e-Cash Loyalty Program to save $$$. Like this fantastic offer: Save $25 when you spend $275 at the EMMM online store simply by entering the code ‘eeni25′ at the checkout. How easy! So make sure you check out the full range of savings with the e-Cash Loyalty Program. The more you spend the more you save!

Today, in all it’s glory, I bring to you the incredible ‘The Future Is Now’ Autumn/Winter 2010 from Polka – www.polkakids.com.au. Never an outfit to disappoint, design duo Marika and Jo, exceed expectations once more with their latest collection pieces for babies from size 000 through to size 7.

Comprised of bold and colourful geometric knits that pay homage to the 1960’s space-age aesthetic for girls – think mini dresses and knee high boots – and ‘cool-geek’ for little boys, Polka once more breaks the mould to deliver a highly unique and individualistic collection.

Responding to the demand from tween mums for fashion that suits 8-12 year olds, Polka are also launching their spin-off collection, Geogami, this season. Available in sizes 8,10,12 and14, independent minded tweens to teens and their parents are bound to be impressed by this collection, which is indefatigably cool in it’s reference to Japan’s Toyko, and Scandinavian street culture.

With nary a muffin top or surfie motif to be found, Geogami offers tweens and teens a sophisticated alternative to the usual street fashion available to them.

Polka Kids A/W10 Collection and Geogami A/W10 will be available in stores from 12 March. Check here for Polka stockists, and contact Polka for Geogami stockists.

Danish Design Delight: Molo

Last year, one of my dearest friends gave birth to her first child all the way over in Denmark. I was bursting with anticipation as I awaited the upload of her very first baby photographs so I could goo and gaa all the way over here in Australia. (And I did….she  is simply divine and I told my friend so.) My next comment was “Where did you get that fabulous jumpsuit?!”. It was the first time I had set my eyes on a Molo outfit and it was love at first sight!

Molo – www.molo-kids.com – hails from Denmark and is created by Danish designer Louise Frederickson.  The label produces clothing for newborns right up to tweens. The quirky, funky Molo range will splash colour into your kidlets basic wardrobe to create an individualised style  that screams street coolness. These quality pieces, rich in a spectrum of colour and pattern,  will become an ongoing favourite for you too, I’m sure.

Molo is stocked at Babybees.com.au here in Australia.  If you are up for a little international shopping you could check out  Asos.com, which has the Northern hemisphere outgoing Molo winter range on sale at bargain prices.

Mummysam Delights: New Fabric Line, Letterpress Prints & Softies To Love

Posted: February 10th, 2010

Today’s post written by Edwina

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

When I first featured the wonderful work of Mummysam (aka Samantha Cotteril), an arty English girl living in upstate New York, it was her super-cool softies that I fell in love with.

Today I’m falling head over heels once more, this time with the news of her upcoming fabric line  for Robert Kaufman Fabrics, entitled ‘A Day in the Life’, to be launched in April this year.

Samantha says, “The idea for the line stemmed from my daily doodles I used to draw in bed at night when my kids were babies.  Instead of documenting my day through words, the day was portrayed through a series of pictures.  Looking back at it now, I cannot believe how much I did before 10am!”

The colourways have not been finalised, so this sample does not portray the colour scheme of the line, but we are loving the visuals and will have to wait patiently until April to see the rest of the line, when three fabulous new designs will become available.

In the meantime you can satify yourself with another Mummysam project just completed: a limited edition set of prints created in collaboration with Rachel Hetzel from Pistachio Press. These would make a fantastic addition to a child’s room and are available, together with the fabulous Mummysam softies, from the Mummysam Etsy shop.

Irene has already covered the letterpress prints on Bloesem, so I want to focus predominantly on the upcoming fabric line. (Here’s the ‘About’ Robert Kaufman page to give further context to this: http://www.robertkaufman.com/about_robert_kaufman_fabrics/)

If you could have this one ready for publication this Weds, 10 Feb, that would be grand, but I know things are crazy at the mo, so feel free to reset my expectations.

A xxx

Hi Angela,
oh how thrilled I am to hear that! thank you ever so much….

here is the official description we will be using:
Collaboration Description:
An English country girl met a small-town US girl and they decided to collaborate on a fun new set of prints! This is a limited edition collaboration between mummysam (Samantha Cotterill) and Pistachio Press (Rachael Hetzel).

These lovely pieces were printed on bright white 100% cotton paper, which creates a beautiful impression. All of the inks were hand mixed and each piece was printed by hand on an antique Vandercook No. 4 letterpress. Each print measures 8″x10″, which is perfect for framing. Only 100 limited edition prints were made of each design.

Pricing: $30 each or $50 for the set

As far as how the subject matter relates to my childhood, I would have to say  the general aesthetic of the drawings (particulary the bird piece) came from my fond memories of reading ladybug books with my mum. (especially any book illustrated by A.J. Macgregor. In fact, I keep those books alongside my design books, and they are the ones that get used most for inspiration. )

The fabric line is something I am extremely excited about. I have designed a line for Robert Kaufman entitled, “A day in the Life” under my company name mummysam. We will be launching three designs in April, and if all goes well, four more designs will follow suit.  The idea for the line stemmed from my daily doodles I used to draw in bed at night when my kids were babies.  Instead of documenting my day through words, the day was portrayed through a series of pictures.  Looking back at it now, I cannot believe how much I did before 10am! (all the feeding, diaper changes, potty training, etc…) All three designs relate to my life as a mum, and it is my hope that these patterns will relate to all the other mums out their who find themselves looking at the clock and thinking, “my goodness, it’s only 10am?”

(I have attached a sample of my morning from 5-8…although this does not portray the colour scheme of the fabric…we are still in the process of putting the colour schemes together. This should just basically give you a visual of where this line is heading)

I really hope this first launch goes well, as I would love to see the next patterns come to life on fabric! (one being the faces that are represented in the letterpress print.)

I hope this gives you some good information, and please feel free to e-mail with any additional questions.

Thanks again, as I am just so honoured that you would like to do this post!
cheers
sam

Hi Sam

How lovely to hear from you! Thanks to for your lovely comments, gives us a real buzz J

We’d love to do a post on your new products coming out. If you could provide more information on both the letterpress collaboration – particularly how the subject matter relates to your childhood – and also details on the Robert Kaufman line, that would be fabulous. We would include both these developments in a post for you.

Cheers,

Angela.

Hi Angela,  (I tried sending to the other e-mail, but it wouldn’t send)

You wrote a lovely review of my work past March (I run mummysam), and wanted to take a minute to let you know about a lovely new collaboration I just finished with Rachael Hetzel, AKA Pistachio Press. We created two limited edition letterpress prints using my imagery, which is based partly from my childhood in the English countryside.  We are planning to officially launch the collaboration on Monday, January 25th and wanted to see if you would be interested in doing a post on it.  Your review you did back then was so lovely and helped me grow tremendously,  helping mummysam become what it is today. (I have a fabric line coming out in April with Robert Kaufman geared completely to a day in the life of a mother…I think you might really appreciate them!)

I have attached a description about them and some general photos, and can send you more detailed information if you are interested.

Thanks again for everything, and I look forward to talking soon :)
cheers

The 80’s are back! You may have already heard this and cringed at the thought, but we want to celebrate all that was good about being a kid in the 80’s and bring a little of that back to your family today.

Leave the shoulder pads and big hair behind, and think leg warmers, candy coloured clothing, long tees, pedal pushers, pantaloon jumpsuits, Ray Bans, cool sneakers and grandpa tops.

To really get into the groove pull out old board games like Operation and Twister, and re-live classic 80s movies like Ghostbusters, Karate Kid and, appropriately, Back to the Future.

Très Chic Très Bon: Le Triomphe des Rose Desbois

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

When we think of fashion and its origins we are automatically drawn to the French and their capital – Paris.  Their flair for whipping together an outfit and making it look altogether uncomplicated, yet smart, is something they seem to achieve effortlessly.

A stunning example of French style is girls-wear label Rose Desbois – www.rosedesbois.fr(pronounced Roz day-BWAH) which creates outfits for girls from newborn up to 10 years from a range of luxury materials that are the embodiment of Parisian Chic.

Rose Desbois opened their first boutique in Paris XVlle near Monveau Park, France in December 2008, and the label is already receiving rave reviews with mentions in fashion bible French Vogue and women’s magazine Marie Claire (France).

The label’s designer Chrystelle Desbois is a graduate of ESMOD‐Paris (the first in the International fashion university group). The materials Chrystelle uses to construct her garments are sourced largely from  France or Italy. Fabrics include velvet and cashmere, are used and many of the items are embroidered or knitted by hand. All pieces are manufactured in France.

The new Kids Collection Autumn‐Winter 2009/10 features caramel coloured wools, chocolate and mocha velvet and coffee‐coloured flannel. I found myself in awe at their craftsmanship and panache (and also at their prices, which start at a low 36 Euros).

Stocked in a small number of high-end stores in London, New York, Italy and Japan, as well as its own fashion house in Paris, Rose Debois is yet to take the Australian market, but will be available online at the new virtual store opening soon. If you can’t wait, you can contact the store directly via email at info.rosedesbois@orange.frRose Desbois happily ship to Australia and beyond.

Meet & Greet: A Moment with Amy from New Zealand Streetwear Label Minti

Posted: August 25th, 2009

Today’s post written by Angela

There’s a fresh and very cool new label hitting the scene in Australia right now: New Zealand based Minti – www.iloveminti.com.

This delightfully quirky streetwear brand has been big in its native New Zealand for some time now, and is set to do them same in Australia, with a cache of the hippest stores taking it on board.

So what’s the story behind Minti? I caught up with Amy from Minti to get the lowdown…

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

When did you start Minti?

We started Minti way back in 2003.

Why did you start Minti?

We started Minti due to a gap in the market for cool, high quality kids wear. We were all working at Federation Clothing (which Nick and Jenny own) and getting a lot of our retailers and customers commenting that there was nothing cool out there for kids. Launching Minti was a bit of a gamble considering none of us had kids at the time, but what we designed was really well received, so we pretty much have gone from strength to strength from there.

Any funny stories?

The funniest would have to be the time we sampled a baby’s one piece in a size 5 and our tiny framed sales rep managed to squeeze in to it!!

What inspires you?

There really are so many things for us designers to be inspired by, we are all really close and get on super well. Nick and I run an artist series t-shirt label called Collective Edition. Within the family of artists we collaborate with are creative geniuses such as Mike Perry, Rinzen, Luke Ramsey, and Jim Stoten, to name a few – they are all so inspiring!

Also, since launching Minti, Nick and Jenny have had three awesome kids, Ryder, Monte and Dusty, who are really inspirational. They have really helped the evolution of Minti and taken us to the next level.

Tell me about the summer ‘09-’10 collection

The Summer collection is really raw which we love; a lot of hand drawn prints and a lot of denim pieces. We went a little bit ‘back to the future’ when creating it as well.

You can view the entire Minti summer ‘09-’10 lookbook here (click on each image to view full-size).
You can buy Minti online from these stockists.

Sneak Peek: TikiBoo Kids Spring/Summer ‘09-’10 Collection

Posted: August 18th, 2009

Today’s post written by Angela

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

The kids fashion world is exploding with the promise of summer at the moment, as the new season’s collections are revealed like butterflies emerging from their cocoons.

The spring/summer ‘09-’10 range from TikiBoo Kids – www.tikiboo.com.au – particularly puts me in mind of this kind of beauty, with their array of both vivid and soft retro floral prints.

Designer Kathryn Hetherington resides in Queensland, in Northern Australia, where she is inspired by the abundance of flora and beautifully warm weather, and this really comes though: the colours and prints are fresh and light, and the pieces are designed simply, but precisely, from high quality materials that can be worn easily on a hot summer’s day.

In addition to their trademark dresses, TikiBoo Kids has added new skirt and singlet sets to the collection, including a new signature ‘TikiBoo Birdie’ singlet design.

The TikiBoo Kids spring/summer 2009-10 collection will be available from selected retailers from September 2009. Stores interested in stocking TikiBoo Kids can contact Kathryn at TikiBoo here.

KidStyleFile interviewed Kathryn Hetherington from TikiBoo Kids in February this year. Meet Kathryn here.
