Easter Fashion for Every Taste

Posted: April 3rd, 2009

Today’s post written by Kat

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

I have to admit something: I am not a fan of theme-dressing. Sparkly christmas earrings give me hives; licenced kidswear causes nausea.

So, thinking about ‘Easter Fashion’ I nearly choked on my Creme egg (theme-chocolates I can handle).

Thankfully, I’ve realised you can be cheerfully festive and dressed to impress, without the need for fluffy bunny ears…(though if you can’t resist, try the hip version: Rock Your Baby’s Rabbit knit hat, available at Baby’s Got Style for $29.95. Adorable!)

Nanny Pickle’s Bad Bunny Collection is so cute and cheeky it wins my vote for rabbit-themed clobber. Clobber, though, is a bit harsh, because this collection is made from supersoft bamboo and organic fabrics that are just luscious to touch, and come complete with important life lessons such as “Eat your Crusts” and “Don’t Run With Scissors”. Hehe! You can find the Bad Bunny at La Toriana from $19.95.

Cradlerock have a handy Easter section which includes these funky rabbit tees and hoody by Tiny Mammoth (designed by Beci Orphin of Princess Tina fame). How cool is this unique take on a gorgeous vintage print?!

Quinn Macool’s take on bunny prints is, erm, cool! From the cute retro “I Believe” (aaw!) to the “How To Draw A Bunny” tee, perfect for little artistes, you can personalise everything to your taste and nab a nifty new tee for only $22!

But if the only bunnies you want to see this Easter are of the chocolate variety, you could instead have fun putting together a gorgeous new outfit to celebrate:

Baby: Keep little ones warm and snug with a funky romper from Onesies – you’d be hard pressed to go past the simple and chic prints from Danish label Nanoou ($42, 0-12 months), teamed with this versatile, soft velour hat by Gertie & Me ($9.95) and gorgeous matching booties ($9.95; both available at The Hip Infant) for maximum aw-factor. You could also add a sweet little cardi like this one from Purebaby ($32.47 on sale from Just Ripe) for extra warmth and cuteness!

Little Boys: If Nanna’s going to be at Easter lunch, it might be wise to leave your rock’n'roll tees at home, and go for a timeless piece like this Wonderboy Stripe tee ($39.95, 6m-7Y, from Itty Bitty Yuppy). Work it with some classic denim (Munster Stovey 2 Jeans, $80, sizes 2-10; from Tiny People) and retro cool trainers – Adidas Country Stripe, $59.95, sizes US4-10; from Kido Store). If it’s cool, skip the hoody and go for a smart jacket like the Steve Mac coat from Freshbaked (on sale for $29.95 at BabysGotStyle). Watch out, ladies!

Little Girls: We all know how spoilt for choice little girls are now days when it comes to fashion – it’s hard to narrow down a party frock but this week my pick is Polka’s Black Birdy Frou Dress ($99, sizes 3-7; from BabysGotStyle). Accessorise with a slouchy knitted hat (Toshi, $18.95) and ribbed tights for a nice play on texture (Marquise knit tights, $9.95, both also from BabysGotStyle) - or try printed legwarmers scrunched at the ankle if you’re really cool (Huggalugs, $14.50 on sale from My Baby Rocks). Shoes? Yunginz Classeez ($59.95) are pretty enough for every occassion!

Please check individual stores for postage and delivery details. Always check the KSF All Current Deals page to see if you are eligible for any discount.

The Winter ‘09 Roundup: Coat Tales – The Best Coats for Little Bods

Posted: March 20th, 2009

Today’s post written by Kat

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Man, I love a good coat. More so than a good frock, and that’s saying something!! The thing is, as you get older it’s harder to get away with gorgeous trimmings, bright colours or sweet prints (not impossible, mind, just harder). But kids have no limits – and so it brings me great pleasure (tinged with mild envy) to present the most gorgeous winter coats of the season!

1). Elodie & Elvis create the most magical pieces, in elegant, classic styles. They’re not exactly ‘budget-friendly’ but their coats make the most wonderful heirlooms and are a must for those who go all gooey for good old-fashioned children’s pieces. Plus, they are slighty cheaper, and more unique, than a kids’ Burberry trench coat, so if you’re after a keepsake, justify it thus. The Elodie & Elvis website has all their collections, and you can contact them for local stockist details. For girls, the French Floral coat and the Lana duffle coat are incredibly gorgeous; while boys can look smart and very cool in the Max Cord Blazer.

2). Eternal Creation create, beautiful pieces in a fair-trade environment, from newborns through to 10 years – there are SO many adorable coats it’s hard to narrow it down! I love the classic design of the red Wool Jacket with it’s sweet patterned buttons ($89.95, 3m-36 months),  and the super cool simplicity of the Wool Forest Jacket ($89.95, 3m-36 months). Bigger boys can be warm, cosy and stylish in the chocolate Pinstripe Street Jacket ($129.95, 2Y-10Y) and girls will feel so grown up in this 40’s style Mackintosh ($79.95, 2-10 years)!

3). Sooki Baby’s padded, reversible jackets are my all-time fave for newborns-size 2. My daughter had a cute spotty one last year and it was so perfectly warm, cosy and cute that I’m hoping she can still squeeze into it for a few weeks this season. This year, the girls’ jackets have a single front button, cape-style (tres chic) in pink with ballerina print, or red with a cute srtipey trim; while boys can go for a classically cute look in a baby blue zip-up! Check the website’s stockist page, or find Sooki online in heaps of places including My Baby Rocks and Itty Bitty Yuppy.

4). Super cool Aussie label Ouch is readily available at Baby’s Got Style, and these classic styles won’t break the budget – the Caramel Trench ($54.95, 0-7) is uber chic (Mum needs one too!). Plus, they do possibly the coolest raincoat ever, Black Flying Skulls, just $24.95 in sizes 0-6!

5). Freshbaked is another fabulous label, with gorgeous designs at great prices – their website showcases their range and also lists an ample range of stockists. From casual hooded jackets to cute puffa jackets (yes, they exist!) and the sweetest swing coats, the designs are simple and sensible but with such cute touches; and kids love them too (trust me!)

6). I couldn’t resist stopping by Tiny People in the name of research – they stock possible the coolest Military Jacket ever, by the extraordinarily beautiful label, Paper Wings ($220, sizes 3-6); this gorgeous swing coat by the irresistible Polka ($80, sizes 2-7); the retro cool Kiniky Jacket by Munster ($90, sizes 2-8), and this hipper than hip plaid coat by another Aussie label worth watching, Chalk & Cheese ($159, sizes 2-6).

Part 2: Stay Cool – Summer Frocks at Hot Prices

Posted: February 13th, 2009

Today’s post written by Kat

Welcome to Part 2 of our ‘Stay Cool’l two-part summer fashion special. Today Kat gets her frock on to check out summer dresses for girls. Have a boy? check out Part 1: Boys Picks to keep your little man cool in the summer sun.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Whether you’re 2 or 32, there’s nothing quite like a breezy summer frock for just slipping into when the weather heats up. So, following on from last week’s post about hip buys for little dudes, this week it’s time for some girliness: KSF presents a rundown on the hottest frocks for keeping cool on sweltering summer days!

You may have noticed that here at KSF we rave about a brand called Daily Tea. If you haven’t tried it, I would highly recommend it – they’re beautifully made, the prints are simple and delightful, and they last wash after wash. They should come with a warning though; much like good tea, they are pleasantly addictive! You can browse a large array at Where Did You Get That?, including the Fan Flower Drop Waist Dress (on sale, $22.37), the Flower Dot Dress (on sale, $22.37), and the Floral Tank Dress (on sale, $18.55).

There’s yet even more Daily Tea available at Ele-ahbaant – check out the new season Cherry Blossoms Dress ($37.75) or the super cute vintage inspired Multi Dot Banded Dress ($37.75).

Another couple of my fave labels, Little Leona by Leona Edmiston and Big by Fiona Scanlan also now have online stores, yay! Check out the Sale section at the Leona Edmiston site for huge bargains for yourself and your little princess (who’ll look even more the part in the Talitha Tulle Dress , $79.95, sizes 1-7) and you can also keep tabs on new season stock without battling department store crowds. Also check Appleseed Child for out of this world bargains on Little Leona frocks.

The gorgeous Big by Fiona Scanlan site has all the new stuff as well as some beautiful summer and trans-seasonal frocks (just add tights and a skivvy for winter): I love the very pretty Petal Print Dress ($79.95, sizes 2-8) in the hottest hue of the season, navy, while the cool folk inspired (let’s not go near “foho”) Paisley Print Top ($64.95, sizes 2-8) would have a place in my wardrobe if it came in mummy-sizes!

Kounia-Bella stocks a huge ranges of gorgeous frocks from drool-worthy (yours as well as bub’s) labels such as Collette Dinnigan Enfant, Eeni Meeni Miini Moh, Ouch, Bebe by Minihaha, Tea Princess, Emilie et Rose…get a hanky for excess dribble ’cos they have a 40% off summer sale on…(eew, sorry)…this simple white pinny by Ouch would look great with a bright tee or tank (on sale, $19.61, sizes 1-7),  while at the other end of the scale, the Loletta dress by Collette Dinnigan Enfant ($180, 6-12 months) is a beautiful keepsake for generations of hot summers. Or, for the designer look without the price tag, grab the Bebe Junior by Minihaha White Lace Dress ($24 on sale) for a cute and cool (in every sense) girly look!

Over at Itty Bitty Yuppy, there’s no shortage of beautiful designer looks…at half the price on their bulging sale rack (woohoo!).  The Egg & Avocado June Dress (on sale, $38.97, sizes 2-6) just got added to my cart (I’m a sucker for hot pink, and my daughter is too young to complain about it), while the Freshbaked Summer Dress (on sale, $29.22, 3-6) is the most perfectly summery shade of blue. Mill & Mia fans, rejoice, because there’s 35% off beautiful pieces like the Stripe Tshirt Dresses (on sale, $45.47, sizes 1-6); or if you’re a fan of quirky retro prints, a Pink Chicken frock such as the Sasha Dress (on sale, $53.59, sizes 2-6) is just the ticket.

After something all natural (as opposed to au naturale, the under 5’s globally preferred style of choice)? Mini Eco stocks gorgeous organic garments, including the Lark Retro Baby Dress (on sale, $19, sizes 3m-12m) with it’s vintage print/modern design combo (result: super cute!), and this classic Polka Dot Dress (on sale, $25, sizes 12m-6y). Over at Purebaby you can pick up the organic Racer Back summer dress in Stripe or Gumnut (on sale, $22.46, sizes 000-2), while Pastel Pink stock a nice big range of Gaia Organics – check out the beautiful Prairie Feather Dress (on sale, $24.72, sizes 000-4)  or the pretty Rosebud Dress in pink or white (on sale, $19.98, sizes 000-0).

I could go on for years about frocks actually, but on a final note for today, you simply can’t go past Baobab for gorgeous basics and gorgeous bargains – the Tank Dresses (on sale, $33.60, sizes 1-6) are unbelievably stylish and breezy, in 4 colourways and prints (I’m a fan of the black, it looks truly wicked with a dash of pink accessory!); or the Raglan Striped Dress (on sale, $36.80, sizes 1-6) for some easy beachy-cool!

Please check individual sites for spostage and delivery details.

What’s Under Our Tree: Nerida’s Top 10 Christmas Picks

Posted: November 16th, 2008

Today’s post written by Nerida

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Ok, it’s officially time for me to seriously plan the Christmas festivities for our house. And what better place to start than with the kids!

Without further ado, here are the pressies that will be gracing our tree this year.

1. First up on my Top 10 is a dress for my girl to wear on Christmas Day. I have long been a fan of Scanlan and Theodore, and now channel this love to Fiona Scanlan’s beautiful BIG label, for kids. The Daisy and Little Print dress is top of my list – available from www.bucketsandspades.com.au.

2. Like most three year olds, my daughter loves role playing (which currently extends to her begging to help iron her clothes – hope that one continues!) and Le Toy Van make the most beautiful kitchens and accessories. I am sure she will love the Honeybake Breakfast set from Little Possums Toys – www.littlepossumtoys.com.au.

3. So far my 6 month old is quite happy for me to decorate his room so I am going to get him one of the delightful Shinzi Katoh prints from Kinder Gallery www.kindergallery.com.au.

4. Next up, another gift for my soon-to-be-mobile son. He should start walking in the next 6 months so I need to find something fun, attractive, and durable, to kep him busy. I love the Bajo Jumping Frogs Push Toy - available from Send A Toy – www.sendatoy.com.au

5. To help my boy look even cuter than normal on the day, the Munster Wild Things tee should do the trick. Available from Itty Bitty Yuppy – www.ittbittyyuppy.com.au.

6-8. Christmas just wouldn’t be complete without a swag of books to relax with on a hot summer’s day. We have long been fans of Janet and Allan Ahlberg and the book Burglar Bill will be perfect for my girl while Julia Donaldson’s latest, Stick Man, will be a nice one to read aloud to my son. I am also very happy to see Nigella Lawson has released a new book for the festive season on the festive season. I will be hoping to receive her book Nigella’s Christmas from someone this year (better start dropping hints!). All books available from  Fishpond – www.fishpond.com.au

9. We are in desperate need of a new stroller and I have my eye on the Silver Cross Dazzle. I love the range of colours – hopefully there will be enough Christmas cash leftover to get one! Available from Tiny People – www.tinypeople.com.au

10. And finally, some crafts for my daughter. The Djeco Princesses Stamp/Ink Pad will be a big hit. Available from Where Did You Get That? – www.wheredidyougetthat.com.au

1. Big by Fiona Scanlan Daisy and Little Print Dress $74.95
2. Le Toy Van Honeybake Breakfast Set  $94.95

Shoes for Tiny People: The Lowdown on What’s Hot this Summer

Posted: November 14th, 2008

Today’s post written by Kat.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

If we all live vicariously through our kids in some way, big or small, then I am guilty of amassing a shoe collection for my daughter which would make Imelda proud. And hopefully jealous.

A toddler’s feet grow so much faster than an adult’s, so, you know, it’s simply a necessity to keep her feet well-shod. That’s what we tell Daddy, anyway!

She’s got everything from supersoft handmade in Morocco flats (we got them at Where Did You Get That?) to Parisian Ballets in shiny Red (from the lovely Kim over at Itty Bitty Yuppy) and even genuine vintage patent black Mary Janes (my first pair of shoes, handed down!)

So what will we be adding to the collection for Summer?

A browse through department stores reveals a whole lotta not much, so thank goodness for online shopping – think bucketloads of colour and a dash of metallics contrasted with fresh whites and neutrals.

Here are my picks of the labels and stores to look out for:

Babies:

Skeanie have developed cool summer sandals, in classic blue and pink right through to bright red and chic navy. Made from soft leather with suede soles, they’re easy to wash, easy to put on, and easy on the purse at just $29.95!

Similarly, you can find the gorgeous Cheeky Little Soles label at Baby’s Got Style – check out these uber-funky Retro Blue shoes, or try the girly, shiny Nesting Sandals over at Ekidna Kids, both for $35.95!

Seed shoes are not only affordable, but so darn cute – check out these baby Havianas ($24.95), stylish Metallic Sandals ($39.95), nautical Leather Moccassins ($39.95) and hip Velcro Runners ($39.95) for the most stylish tot on the block!

Tip Toey Joey is synonymous with sleek, classic styles and top class quality – I can’t go past these fresh white Mary Janes ($42.95) at LillieLuca for teaming with pretty summer frocks, or these rich chocolate Leather Sandals ($49.50) at Buckets & Spades for matching back with crisp summer neutrals. Sigh.

Or, try Tiny Steps for a gorgeous range of baby and infant shoes – they stock the brilliant Pediped range (I’m hearting the Olivia white sandals, $42.95, and the Colin classic dark brown, $42.95), as well as Bibi, Sweet Shoes, Diddle Dumpling, Shooshoos….and oh so much more!

Little People:

A constant in my daughter’s shoe closet is New Zealand label Bobux, designers of the original “elastomatic” ankle support system and with an ever expanding range including eco-friendly leathers. I don’t know if it’s possible to go past the cute as can be Jnr Ballet Shoe ($49.95) or the i-Walk Sandals in Marine or CherryMadison Lane. ($59.95) at

Yunginz is a new label on the Australian market, priding themselves on funky, original designs without compromising on quality. The Candy Stripe shoes ($44.95) look so modern but are covered in pretty, girly stripes to match any outfit! Boys (or Mum, at least) will love the Velcro Sandoze Sandals ($35.95) ‘cos they go with absolutely everything! Check the website for stockists.

I’m also loving Chook Leaf, with simple yet strikingly cool designs, such as the silver Welsummer Sandal Hamburg Boy’s Sandal ($55) at Cocoon Living, and the Sussex Sandal ($59.95 at Dragonfly Store) – they all just scream breezy summer sophistication!

If only all of these labels made Mummy-sizes…..!

Itty Bitty Yuppy Big Housewarming Sale: Up to 75% off sale items, and 15% off new season’s fashion

Posted: August 28th, 2008

Today Miki brings you a joyous celebration from the inimitable Itty Bitty Yuppy. Happy Housewarming Kim, from all of us :)

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Kim at Itty Bitty Yuppy – www.ittybittyyuppy.com.au – has just made the move to sunny Queensland – beautiful one day and perfect the next, as they say – and she is celebrating the sunshine in style with a fab Housewarming Sale.

There are 35 items at 35% off, 41 items at 50% off, and 15 items at 75% off. Woo hoo!! Choose from Abe Jones, Wonderboy, mill&mia, Moppit, the adorable Parisan Ballets shoes, Willow & Finn, Rock & Rattle, Tiny Tribe and much, much more.

To find all these fabulously and extravagantly discounted items, head directly to the IBY Sale section and spend a while blissfully browsing.

I love the completely cute Tiny Tribe rompers, like this drool-worthy girl’s one at 35% off. The Wonderboy Spidee Tee is hip and a great trans-season buy, especially at 35% off.

Another great pick is the Abe Jones infant tank at 50% off – adorable! ADORABLE, I say! And what about Rock & Rattle at 75% off?!

This sale will end on 31 August, go get a motor on it!

You can also score 15% off new season stock at Itty Bitty Yuppy when using the KidStyleFile Shop 4 Kids discount code*. Have you checked out the just-arrived brands at IBY including such as Polka (Ange just loves this new label), Chase n’ Sky, Tipitipi (have you seen their stunning rompers?), and the hottest baby and toddler swimwear from Cuddlefish.

Speaking of Cuddlefish, I have to say that I think it’s some of the best ‘little’ swimwear I’ve come across (Ange has been using Cuddlefish swimmers on her kids for the last 3 years, and is wrapt. She regularly gets asked if they come in adult sizes people love the look so much!) . The fabric is all 50+UV and the colours and designs are fantastic – fun, bright and age-appropriate. The buoyancy swimsuits have been carefully designed to the Standards Australia AS 1900 guidelines for water safety and I think it’s a nifty design for teaching the youngsters to be comfortable in the water as you can remove the flotation sections one by one.

Without further ado, some of my picks for new arrivals. The picks below are new season’s full-priced pieces, using the Shop4Kids 15% off magazine code. For sale stock visit the IBY Sale section (no further discounts apply to sale stock).
