Doll’s houses have been in existence for thousands of years and they have become an iconic symbol of childhood play. Role play is an important part of rehearsing real life skills, and is a major component of a child’s play from pre-school onwards, and dollhouses offer the perfect environment for practicing social interactions and home living for boys and girls.

Lundby dollhouses were launched in Sweden in 1945 and they have moved with the times to accurately reflect contemporary life and design down to the finest details. There are three models of house to choose from, all made to exacting standards that will provide your child (and then their children) with years of enjoyment.

The Lundby houses are a must-have for Christmas this year and Lundby Australia are offering a wonderful extra pressie to go with your dollhouse: purchase any Lundby Doll’s House (not including the house-style advent calandar) between now and 16 December 2009 and receive a FREE garden set (rrp $27.95) with your order. Enter the promotional code ‘LDBY2005′ at checkout to redeem.

Not sure which house to choose? Let me give you a house tour below!

The Lundby Småland house, originally named the ‘Gothenburg’ and based on the original Lundby doll house, has been renamed and revamped to modern standards by Stockholm architect duo Ann Morsing and Beban Nord, of Box Design. This modular home can be easily extended with an optional add-on section to expand the space.

Lundby Småland Doll’s House – $164.95 (accessories sold separately)

Morsing and Nord are also responsible for the eyepopping design and decoration of the Lundby Stockholm house. Featuring stunning architecture encompassing a modern open-plan layout, state-of-the-art details include a pull-out drawer with pool (that is functional: fill it with water and let your doll family enjoy a dip!), pull-down acrylic doors in front of all rooms, sliding bedroom doors, sundecks, spa bath, hot tub, plasma TV, sofa bed and specially commisioned paintings by artist Lisa Rinnevuo.

Lundby’s latest release is the Gotland house, also archictected by Box Design. Gotland is a ‘holiday house’,  perfect as a starter house, or portable house. The Gotland offers five indoor/outdoor play areas, including a veggie patch, outdoor shower and amenities. The functionality of the house is unique in that it’s smaller size as a dollhouse reflects the space considerations that we have in smaller real-life houses: the kitchen table folds away to provide more space and the back of the table also functions as a dart board, plus the bed can be folded away against the wall and secured with a magnetic clip. Now that’s clever! When can I move in?

Lundby Gotland Dollhouse – $184.95 (accessories sold separately)

All Lundby doll’s houses come with with the Lundby child-safe 4.5 volt built-in lighting system. Dolls, lamps, furniture, and all other accessories are sold separately. You can buy Lundby dollhouses and accessory packs from the Lundby Australia website – www.lundby.com.au, or search for a stockist near you here.

The first Lundby doll’s house was launched in Sweden in 1945 by Danish couple Axel and Grete Thomsen, and that original house, originally named the ‘Gothenburg’, has now been renamed Småland and revamped to modern standards by Stockholm architect duo Ann Morsing and Beban Nord, of Box Design.
