Can I keep Him? Can I?? Pleeeease? Animal Tees to Fall in Love With

Posted: March 6th, 2009

Today’s post written by Kat

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

In a complete 180 from last week’s post about hip tees that rock, this week it’s all about cuter-than-cute animals. Check out the parade of offerings that you and your child are sure to want to take home.

1). For something truly original, check out the funky designs by Hamb. Made in Australia, their kids range has everything from dogs to dinosaurs, donkeys to kittys ($39ea). I love the scribbled, bold prints and they also do parent sized tees too! Hooray!

2). Another Aussie label I am loving is Monkey-Do, designed and manufactured in Melbourne. We (well, my daughter) have the Dragon Tee ($38) raring to go for winter, but you could also go for a bug named Splat ($42) or even take your animals to bed with you with the Cat Amongst the Pigeons PJ set ($32) or Giraffe nightie ($28).

3). Not yet big enough for a tee? Luckily, Quilt Baby has a huge range of unbelievably cute handcrafted cotton onesies. From a Modern Butterfly to an adorable yellow Giraffe to spotty Elephants and Birds, you can buy directly from their US website (US$18 ea), or locally from stores including Onesies, Bubba Funk and Jivebaby.

4). Back in Oz, Lollipop Baby do simple, cute prints on tees and onesies from 3m-18m ($24.95ea). Here’s  a very cute little Piggy,  a way-cool fish , a stylish Giraffe and a gorgeous Birdie!

5). Like your animals cooler than cool? Then head to Tiny People for these wicked offerings: Mini Rodini have Bats ($49) and Bugs ($55); Minti do a very cool Owl ($39) or Tiger ($39); while Cried Wolf do a tongue-in-cheek Pig ($45) and the hippest Monkey ($45) ever!

6). If you’ve got loads of spare time, browse the wonderland of Etsy for literally hundered of pages of gorgeous, handmade kid’s tshirts. If you don’t have loads of spare time, luckily the hard work’s been done for you - shops worth a look include Appledonia for a CrazyHappyHippo, a Little Brown Mouse or a fabulous Butterfly (US$11 ea); SweetCouture have gorgeous appliques and a custom service, and I love the Owl (US$17.99), Turtle (US$29.99), and funky Shark tie tshirt (US$14.99); or Chocolatine for absolutely stunning, French-inspired designs - actually I love all of their stuff, but if it’s animals you’re after, they do a gorgeous Une Girafe (US$14.95), Un Elephant (US$14.95)and Un Herisson (Hedeghog, US$19.99).

7). For more handmade goodness on a local level, browse Madeit - I could stay on there all day fossicking through all the gorgeous treasures, but for delightful tees you can’t go past Grandy and Baa’s Milo Monkey ($25) or Frederika Fish ($25), and AppleJelly’s cute organic Dinosaur or  Owl ($29.95ea).

Take home an animal tee (or two) today!

Please check individual sites for postage and delivery details.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Pre-School: Band Tees for the Hip Set

Posted: February 27th, 2009

Today’s post written by Kat

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

My daughter’s wardrobe might be bursting with shades of pink, but that doesn’t mean we don’t love a good rock’n'roll tee when we see one (especially with a tutu skirt). Here’s a rundown on tees that rock (and that Daddy might want, too!)

I just saw this hilarious new tee from Children of the Revolution at Baby’s Got Style. Too true, too true. And, let’s be honest, who hasn’t at some point many years ago been caught singing that song at 2am after a few too many? (Just me? Oh…). While you’re at BGS, pick up other cool designs like The Strokes (tees $33.95), and don’t forget the most rockin’ bedtime story ($29.95) ever!

Of course, it’s always hard to go past Rock Your Baby for cute and funky prints. This super cool stripey Badges tee ($26) is very rock’n'roll (get them some skinny jeans and a waistcoat or little blazer), or if you’re going down the AB/CD route, you can’t go past one of the original versions ($24).

Ministyle stock Amplified Kids, who cite music as their ‘absolute inspiration’. Right on, man! Girls can indulge in some retro pink with a Blondie tee, or you could pick up a classic Rolling Stones lick tee ($49.95 ea).

Bellabambina also have a good range of Amplified, including a purple version of Blondie and the inspiration behind a thousand bad hairdo’s, Guns’n'Roses (also $49.95ea).

I found a UK website called 8Ball which has - wait for it! - 207 styles of kids and baby band/slogan tees. O-M-G! If it’s not here, it probably doesn’t exist! They even have a Rick Astley tee, which is so uncool it’s waaay cool! As you might be able to tell, I spent a good portion of this evening browsing though here having a chuckle, especially at this “Keep Metal Heavy” tee. If your M is for Metal book hasn’t quite worked, try a funky onesie like B is for Bob (not of the Builder variety). You’ll also find classics like the Ramones, Kiss, and even The Young Ones (not music I know, but still cool!). Prices start from about $25, plus shipping.

Closer to home, on ebay you’ll find Bondi Top Sellers with a huge range of rocking tees (and the occasional skincare regime). From The Vines to Wolfmother ($34.95ea), they also have punktastic tees from Monster Baby and cute slogans from Well Spotted.

And after wanting to rock’n'roll all night and party every day, as the song goes, try a soothing Rockabye Baby cd from the Hip Infant ($33.95) to lull them softly off to sleep…

Please check individual store sites for shipping and delivery details.

Revolutionary Nursery Furniture: Introducing Stephen Procter, Design Doctor

Posted: November 15th, 2008

Today’s post written by Miki

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

We’ve recently come across the remarkable design work of Stephen Procter, originally a Kiwi but now a resident of Sydney.  His designs are notable for their extreme minimalism, both in terms of appearance (the pieces have a very cool ‘back to the future’ look about them) and in their absence of superfluous features.

Procter became one of Australia’s foremost young designers - he’s 36 years old - in 2007 when his groundbreaking nursery furniture and stroller received the top prize at the Salone Satellite in Milan.

The main point of difference for his furniture is its ability fold down to be remarkably compact and/or to be flat-packed, making it cheap and easy to transport.

The high chair, for instance, is a full-sized high chair when in use but folds to be only 4cm thick meaning that it can easily slide in to be stored between the fridge and the wall - ideal for people with limited space in their kitchens.

The mini cot is also a great idea.  Larger than a bassinet but about half the size of a normal cot, this one still fits a child until they’re ready to move into a big kid’s bed but fits into the parents’ bedroom.

Proctor’s work is still in the prototype stage at this point, but Scandinavian, Japanese and Italian manufacturers have all expressed an interest in producing his work.

We’ll let you know when it becomes available to purchase!

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Bebe alert! Bebe alert!!

That’s Bebe by Minihaha, in case you’re one of the few KSF readers who doesn’t already know and love Bebe - it’s one of the most beloved baby brands around, and there’s a heap of new season styles at Chic Kids - www.chickids.com.au.

But what’s better than new season Bebe?  Nothing on earth… except maybe for discounted new season Bebe!

Yes, you read that right - and it’s not even only Bebe that’s discounted at Chic Kids, oh no!

Just for being KidStyleFile readers, you all get 15% off store-wide until midnight December 14, 2008. Just enter ‘CHICKIDS’ at checkout to redeem, it’s super-easy.

So with that in mind, let’s have a happy browse around Chic Kids together :)

First up I want to point out the new season Marquise: clean, classic and cool, I think Marquise is a winner for every occasion, and it’s well priced even before the 15% discount so you definitely can’t go wrong there.

Mums of girls, have you seen the one-off dresses by Mini Mermaid before?  If not then make sure you check them out; they’re something different and really quite stunning.  Bold colourful prints and simple cuts make them excellent summer pieces for strong minded, individual little girls.

The Playtime section is particularly well stocked, and I want to mention the Sparkle T wooden toys which are new in store.  I’m very tempted to get the Sparkle T Wooden Magnetic Car Blocks for my boy, and that’s just one of the many things that caught my eye!

Also check out the adorable dress up outfits in the Playtime -> Just For Fun section - assorted fairies for girls and the cutest little pirate outfit for boys.  Is there such a thing as a child who doesn’t love dressing up?  If so, I’ve never met them!  But I bet these outfits would be enough to change their minds.

Other great gift ideas: Crocodile Creek meal sets for big boys and girls who are learning to feed themselves are always a hit, and for older kids who are learning to tell the time, what about a funky alarm clock or watch?

It’s always worth having a look in the Delicious Discounts section at Chic Kids too, as you never know what treasures you’ll find!

Christmas Gift Guide at The Hip Infant: 15% off for 48 Hours Only

Posted: November 2nd, 2008

Today’s post brought to you by Miki.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

It’s the time of year again when everyone who has to buy a Christmas gift for a small child - whether their own children or someone elses - starts scratching their heads and wondering what would be appropriate.

With this in mind, I’ve put together a gift guide for babies to preschoolers at one of my favourite online stores, The Hip Infant - www.thehipinfant.com.au, purveyors of the finest clothing, toys and accessories for babies and kids from birth to 2 years.

Without further ado, here are my hot picks for you!

For babies (up to 12 months of age), I recommend the Alimrose handsqueekers which come in all sorts of different designs and make the cutest noises when squeezed.  They’re also very sensitive so the tiniest baby fist can get a sound out of them.

THI also has an excellent range of wooden toys, rattles and pram strings which go down a treat - I love wooden toys, they’re classy and last forever.

If you want to give clothes, I personally love gifting The Hip Infant basics range, which is affordable, stylish and excellent quality.

On to the toddlers now. From here I’ve done gender-specific gift suggestions, but it goes without saying that they’ll work just as well for the opposite gender if you simply choose a different colour or design.

Toddler girls will love the range of soft toys, especially those from Alimrose and BlaBla which are incredibly sweet and whimsical. You could also give her a lamp for her room, as it’s possible by this stage that she’s spooked by the dark.  The soft glow of a night light can be very comforting, and these ones look great as well!

My favourite idea for toddler boys is to get a funky little bag such as a Tiger Tribe drawstring bag, and fill it with board books.

Toddlers are often very proud of being able to feed themselves, so a funky dinner set (I love French Bull robots and monsters) is another idea.

Preschoolers looooove water play (don’t we all!) so I think bath toys are a great way to go here. THI has a big range of Alex Toys and Bud Luxury Ducks so there’s plenty to choose from.

Most bath toys are fairly unisex, but if you want to go gender specific then girls will love the Alex Toys Princess In The Tub set while boys are likely to shun that in favour of the Alex Toys Shaving In The Tub set - he can shave just like Daddy!  Why not make up a lovely gift package by adding a funky Annabel Trends bath cap to the bundle?

More ideas for preschoolers are to make up a parcel including a Hip Stuff Wooden Hairbrush and a selection of JewelQueen hair clips for a little girl, and the For Walls chalkboard robot or truck for a boy - as they’re designed to be safely removed and repositioned on walls, you (or his parents) will love them!

To give you the added incentive (as if you need it!) to snap swome goodies up for Christmas, Mel at The Hip Infant is offering KidStyleFile readers 15% off store-wide… but only for 48 hours! So get moving NOW as the discount ends at 9am on the 4th of November.  Enter code ‘KSF1′ at checkout to redeem.

Kids Gift List: Only 2 days left to get FREE SHIPPING and FREE Xmas Gift Wrap at KGL!

Posted: November 1st, 2008

Today’s post brought to you by Miki.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

In case you needed a reminder, there are only two days left (today and tomorrow) to get FREE SHIPPING and FREE Christmas gift-wrapping at the luscious and divine Kids Gift List - www.kidsgiftlist.com.au.

With KGL’s outstanding range of clothes, books, and toys, this is a prime way to stock up on Christmas presents and stocking fillers with the least stress imaginable - just make yourself a cuppa and relax at the computer, no battling the crowds at the shopping centre.

Kids Gift List have a truly wonderful range of books.  I’ve just been browsing through the category and I’ve seen so many of my favourites!  There are plenty that I want to get as well, especially more the of ‘That’s Not My…’ series as my little boy just adores them.

For stocking stuffers, Kids Gift List have it covered with their ‘Gifts Under $10′ category.  It has pages and pages of colourful, well made toys and the odd book here and there too, with choices for every age group.

The real stand out items for me are the Rosie Flo’s colouring books.  Hugely popular in the UK, the Rosie Flo books are printed on heavy duty paper to avoid colours showing through to the next page.  The main idea behind the books is that the dresses (and the action figures for boys) have been drawn, and the kids need to add arms, legs and heads - oh, and colours of course!

The lines of the pictures have deliberately been kept thin to avoid the ‘pre-school colouring book’ appearance - this means that older children adore them too. There are designs for boys and for girls, and the ideal age range is between 4 and 12 years.  At only $14.95 these are a total bargain and such a great gift idea!

To claim your FREE SHIPPING and FREE Christmas gift-wrapping, just enter ‘KSFXMAS’ at checkout. Remember that this offer finishes on the 2nd of November, so you’re going to have to be quick!

We all love supporting Australian WAHMs (Work At Home Mums), don’t we? We may not have the skills or the inclination to work or run a small business from home ourselves - while looking after small children no less! - so kudos to all those who do!

Some of my favourite children’s products come from talented WAHMs.  They’re usually a bit different from mass produced items, a bit special and you can tell they’ve been made with love.

Carmen from the gorgeous Tummy Time Maternity & Kids - www.tummytime.com.au - clearly has the same views about WAHM-made products as I do, because she stocks them wherever possible.

Take the ‘Sniffit Scratch & Sniff’ greeting cards as an example.  Designed by an Australian WAHM they are a little piece of my childhood come back again - I remember collecting scratch n sniff cards for a while, but they weren’t nearly as stylish as these ones!  They’re available in Gingerbread Man, Peppermint Frog, Cherry-licious and Bubblegum Pig, or you can buy an assorted pack which has one of each ‘flavour’.  Ooh, and these items get FREE POSTAGE too!

The hair ties (including Christmas-themed ones) are a great stocking filler idea, and like many other small items at Tummy Time, they come with FREE POSTAGE! Sweet!!

I also love the ChangeMate nappy changing clutches.  Loads of designs make this an attractive prospect to slip into your handbag or dangle off the pram handle, and practically it’s brilliant as it holds all the essentials for nappy changing on the run and folds out to a change mat; ideal for less-than-pristine shopping centre changing rooms! Aaaaand… you guessed it: FREE POSTAGE!

Unique and feisty kids will love the Wasabi Kids range of clothing.  Imported from Japan, these pieces are affordably priced and with their bold, colourful prints and engaging characters, they’re bound to be come firm favourites.  They’re also guaranteed to make your kids stand out from the crowd and tempt other mums to ask you where you got them!
