I don’t know about your local shops, but mine are definitely getting their Christmas on.  It may only be mid-October but there’s tinsel as far as the eye can see, and carols playing over the loudspeakers.  All of this is serving to remind me that I really don’t want to repeat last year’s mad scramble for gifts in the final week, so I’m getting it sorted now.  My only distraction is that today’s store of choice, beautiful online boutique Little Styles – www.littlestyles.com.au – has so much on offer that I can’t stop myself window shopping through it all!

You see, Terri has been going crazy with her Silly Season buying up big and as a result we have a vast array of summer fashion and wonderful gift ideas to choose from.  One example of this is the entire Oobi Summer collection now in-store, and what a stunning collection it is. I’ve already earmarked several pieces I absolutely *need* for each of my boys, and I adore the girlswear too – who can resist little girls in blue gingham sundresses?

You’ll also find a fantastic range of toys (and more arriving every day – hello Christmas ideas!), gifts, decor and partyware too.  Does anyone have a kid with a Christmas birthday coming up?  My birthday is in late December, and take it from me that Christmas babies want their birthdays to be special too.  The range of partyware at Little Styles will definitely set you on the right track for a magical birthday or end-of-year party.  Plus don’t forget that Little Styles stocks 130 labels and over 3500 products, flat-rate next day delivery is also FREE when you spend over $150!

Make absolutely certain to look through the sale section too, because you can take an *additional 20% off* all sale items!  This offer is for five days only and is valid using the code further20 at checkout.  Keeping in mind that the sale section is enormous (currently fifty pages of bargains, people – FIFTY!), is being added to every day, and has items already discounted by up to 60%… you’re looking at some incredible savings here.

Australian Made: Part 2 – Celebrating Designers Who Make Their Collections In Australia

Posted: March 21st, 2011

Post written by Leah

………………………………………………………………………………………………

The land of children’s fashion design here in Australia is as vast as our glorious country. There are the small, intimate labels, just like our small townships through to internationally recognised designers living abroad that still call Australia home. The spectrum of tastes runs from the bohemian right through to the traditional. There is such a vast point of difference between each label, but what they each have in common is a strong Australian identity.

Today bring you Part 2 of our two part series on Australian labels that design and produce their collections right here in Australia. This is not an easy task: there are few incentives for them to do so; the government offers little support – taxes are high, and subsidies are low – and the benefits of off-shore production promise lower production costs and higher profit margins. It’s true that you may pay a little more for Australian made, but we’re confident that you will be happy with what you receive for it: the knowledge that you are supporting local industry and reducing your carbon footprint, that fair working conditions are in place, and that you are purchasing a high quality product that will take everything that your child dishes out to it and then still be good to go again.

We hope you love these Aussie labels as much as we do. Please show your support and buy a piece or two :)

Well Spotted!

Well Spotted!

Anyone who can pull off a Star Wars themed tee and be totally stylish rather than just geeky is a winner in my book. In the words of the designer behind Well Spotted, the label was created “out of parental joy, expectation & well, frustration!”. Tony Clayton (whose resume includes stints at both Mambo and Macrs), the man behind Well Spotted,  always held the  belief that if all our big companies take the manufacturing of garments overseas, no one will be able to make even a t-shirt here in Australia. He swore that if ever ventured into creating his own range, he would keep it in Australia. Starting off making slogan tees for adults, Well Spotted somehow morphed into a range for kids (I think son Finbar may have been a bit of the inspiration here), and true to his word, Tony ensured that the entire label was an Australian product. The  t-shirts are designed by Tony in his studio in Summer Hill, made in Bankstown and then printed by Tony in Leichhardt.  You can find Well Spotted tees at Cornflowerblue and Little Styles or check here for a stockist.

Cried Wolf

Cried Wolf

What do you get when you put a newborn baby in the arms of a buyer from General Pants? A whole new funky Australian designed label that’s part surfer style, part skater style and a whole lot of seriously hip. Cried Wolf has some of the funkiest tees and boardies, and all of their t-shirts are designed and printed right here in Australia! How cool is that (now to convince them to make their boardies here too!). Right now you can find super bargains on the past summer range at About A Boy or here for their stockist list.

One Sunday

One Sunday

Dreamy days at the beach, long lazy afternoons with friends… one Sunday is a collection full of colour, where elegance rhymes with comfort, carefully chosen cuts and fabrics.” One Sunday is a gorgeous boutique label for tweens 8- 14 that are after something a little refined, age appropriate and totally stylish. Using New Zealand milled jerseys and cottons, the range is then designed, cut and sewn right in here in Australia. Click here for stockists.

Tkxi Surf

Tkxi Surf

With most of the Australian population living on the coast, it is only reasonable to suspect that a great many of us spend a lot of the summer days at the beach. For those more inland, there are lots of rivers, lakes and dams (or local swimming pools) to keep us cool in the heat as well. Of course, this calls for swimwear that will endure a whole lot of wear, offer SPF 50+ protection and look totally stylish. Designed by Karen Panaretto, formally of Aussie swimwear icon Seafolly, Tkxi Surf is an Australian design and made swimwear label that ticks all three boxes. You can find Tkxi Surf at a number on online boutiques, click here for stockists.

Electric Boy

Electric Boy

Members of the Justice League in the Wiggles Big Red Car; A Batman Shadow Puppet; Darth Vadar joins the Green Side (found riding on a bike)….these are just some of the super cool prints to find their way onto the tees and jumpers of Electric Boy’s Winter 2011 range. With a label who describes their inspiration behind their name in these words: “I really really love The Mighty Boosh, especially Princey Vincey!! But I couldn’t be Electro Boy, so thus born Electric Boy!!” you know you’ve found something very special for your little man. Electric Boy is designed in Australia with all items printed right here in Australia. You can find the label at Cradle Rock, Ten Little Indians and Threads of Red or try their stockist list for a store near you.

Brusselsprouts

Brusselsprouts

Having studied Art History at uni, then working as both a ceramic artist and hairdresser amongst other jobs, Victoria Crisp became inspired to create the label Brusselsprouts when she was pregnant with her second son. With her husband  on the road driving road trains for the mines, Victoria sews at home (and now runs her new B&M shop) in Kalgoorlie, West Australia whilst also balancing her duties as mummy to two gorgeous little boys. The Brusselsprouts range is all about the fabric, so you will find stunning garments that are rather simplistic in style, but absolutely stunning to the eye thanks to the careful selection of materials. Brusselsprouts garments can be purchased at their online store.

………………………………………………………………………………………………

Tiddles & Chich

Tiddles & Chich

Tiddles & Chich is an Australian designed and made label that release two ranges each year. Creating a range that is somewhat French classic and stylish, yet maintains a modern day aesthetic, Tiddles and Chich has been seen on a bevy of celebrity children including Suri Cruise (not just once either!). Created by Freyr Lennon and Luise Geddes, and later joined by Freyr’s sister Alexis who has returned from the UK after working for The Royal Family and The Conrans, this label produces a spectrum of goodies from play to party for babies to seven year olds. For stockists click here.

Little Miss J

Little Miss J

Using luxe fabrics, laces and trims, Little Miss J is a label designed by Jo Lambert whose subtle colour palette and french overtones are perfect for special events, birthdays and for little girls who wish to stand out from the crowd. Proudly made in Australia, the range is perfect for little girls 1-10 years. An English Christmas: Miki’s Christmas List

Posted: November 20th, 2009

As part of our Christmas coverage this year we are sharing with you our own personal picks for our kids. Today we’re featuring KSF writer Miki’s selection.

View more KidStyleFile Christmas ideas here.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Miki and her two boys, aged 2.5 years old, and 2.5 months old respectively.

Hard to believe it’s only a few weeks ’til the jolly fat man in the red suit slides down the chimney, isn’t it?  I’m sure I’m not the only one who is astonished at how fast this year has flown by!

2009 has brought about some quite large changes for my little family, not least a temporary move to the UK, my elder son’s second birthday, and a new addition in the shape of my younger son, now nearly three months old.

All year I’ve been looking through beautiful online children’s boutiques (can I just say here how much I love my job?!) and the whole time I’ve had Christmas in the back of my mind.  It’s hard to narrow down the enormous range of choices, but here’s what I’ve decided on for this year. These fit our bill to perfection!

  • An Alimrose bib and matching handsqueaker for my baby boy – the bibs are beautiful quality, and I love the noises the handsqueekers make.  They’re the perfect size for little baby hands.
  • A Radio Flyer Ranger Wagon – this is actually the gift from the boys’ doting grandparents, who wanted my suggestion for a great toy the boys could share and enjoy for years to come.
  • Mooo personalised wooden name puzzles for each of them – educational and lots of fun!
  • The Plan Toys Sorting Cone – both kids will enjoy playing with this, and like all Plan Toys it’s beautifully designed and made.
  • Their big present from Father Christmas – a matched pair of Wheely Bugs, the large size for Master Two and the small size for the baby (who will grow into his during the next year).  I can’t wait to see them tearing around on their Bugs together!
  • I wanted to get them something quintessentially English to mark their first, and probably only, northern hemisphere Christmas – so what else but a Harrods bear for the baby and a Harrods musical snowglobe for the two-year-old?
  • Their present from Daddy – Star Wars themed long-sleeve tees from Well Spotted.  (Yep, I married a geek! But, actually, I think they’re pretty darn awesome, too ;) ).

1. Alimrose Designs Soldier Bib, $16.50; and Handsqueaker, $15.95 from Baby’s Got Style
2. Radio Flyer Ranger Wagon,
$249.95 $220.00 from Where Did You Get That?
3. Mooo Personalised Wooden Name Puzzle,
from $24.95 from Mooo
4. Plan Toys Sorting Cone, $40.95
from Little Possums Toys
5. Wheely Bug – Large, $110.00; Wheely Bug – Small, $90.00
from Green Goat
6. Harrods Small Christmas Bear, £14.95
from Harrods
7. Harrods Musical Snowglobe, £24.95
from Harrods
8. Well Spotted Long-Sleeve Tees, $40 each from Well Spotted

Please check individual sites for postage details, and as always, check the KidStyleFile All Current Deals page to make sure you’re getting the most bang for your buck.

Baby’s Got Brand New Summer Style: New products Arriving Daily PLUS Win a $200 Spending Spree Every Week

………………………………………………………………………………………………

It might not feel like it when you step outside, but summer is well and truly underway at our style mecca, Baby’s Got Style – www.babysgotstyle.com.au. Even when the weather is crapola outside, just looking at all the beautiful summery things at BGS puts a smile on my face. So break out the sunnies, throw on your favourite shorts and slip into those thongs; we’re off for a little tour of the newest summer arrivals!

First stop for the summer party train is none other than Oobi.  No longer content to ‘only’ make the most adorable baby and toddler clothing in Australia (twice voted KidStyleFile readers’ favourite baby and kids designer), Oobi have now branched out into sweet children’s homewares, with a pair of vintage-inspired quilts.  Trucks for boys, tulips for girls, and a really lovely patchwork design make these quilts this summer’s must-have room accessory for your kidlets.  Have a baby under 12 months so can’t use the quilt as bedding?  No probs – they also make incredibly stylish playmats to put down on the floor.  Also new from Oobi are the melamine spoons, which come in sets of four with colours for boys and girls. You’ll be looking for any excuse to feed your tot in public with these!

Rock Your Baby have a fantastic new array of hair accessories for the little girls in your life. Headbands and bow clips in everything from delicate lace to fun fruity prints to flirty florals, these clips will really put the finishing touch on any outfit your junior fashionista cares to put together.

While we’re looking at girlswear, if you have daughters you simply must look at all the incredibly pretty new dresses instore.  We’re talking brands like BIG by Fiona Scanlan, Three Little Trees, Baobab and Ivy Designs.  There really is something there for every girl, whether she loves to lounge around in comfy gear (in which case she’s a Baobab girl) or dress up in pretty frills (hello BIG by Fiona), is a modern miss (Three Little Trees is right up her alley) or has a penchant for vintage (Ivy Designs couldn’t be more perfect).

Don’t worry if, like me, you’re a mum of boys – there’s plenty instore for them too. Bonds has some great new sets for little lads – the Bonds Stretchies are wardrobe staples in my house, but do go up a size when ordering.  Ouch have fab tees and shorts for everyone’s taste, plus Small Paul and Well Spotted have done some great new tees too.  I particularly like the new ‘green themed’ Well Spotted organic tees – cool and topical, he’ll create a stir when he wears these!

Looking for something to top off your son’s outfit?  The range of hats from Goorin Kids has me drooling; it’s incredibly hip and there are so many that I want for my boy it’s just not funny!  I’m currently tossing up between the Lil Buddy Straw Cowboy Hat and the Baby Oliver Plaid Fedora.  Perhaps I’ll just get both…

Make sure you’re subscribed to the Baby’s Got Style mailing list, as BGS give away a $200 gift voucher to one lucky subscriber twice a month now once a week!!! WOW!! Gotta be in it to win it, and the newsletter is great style inspiration too!

Babies: Bonds Stretchie Striped Tee, $16.95; and Stretchie Print Short, $14.95; Ivy Designs Summer Swing Pinafore, $69.95; and Rosette Clip – Blue Floral, $8.00
